How can I speed up pistons while the player is in a set area?

Archive: 7 posts

Hello! I have two large crushers in my level "Frozen Bananas" that move very slowly towards each other at an equal pace and crush the player in the middle if they dont get out in time. The problem is the way I have the challenge is set up if the player dies he or she respawns in a small checkpoint room directly under the crushers trapping them until the crushers part again very slowly. Therefore they are stuck in the checkpoint room waiting for the crushers to move very slowly and part enough to get out of the checkpoint room. Its hard to describe but what I want is a way to speed up the crushers "which are on pistons" while the player is in the small checkpoint room so they dont have to wait so long. Then when the player leaves the checkpoint room the pistons slow down again to their normal pace in order for the player to complete the puzzle.2012-05-05 21:46:00

You could use a player sensor, then hook it up to a piston. Tweak the piston so that it's speed scale, not on/off.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

Hmm yeah good idea ill try it, Thank you It might not work though because the pistons need to be off until the player gets to the challenge.2012-05-05 22:05:00

I don't think you could do it with the checkpoint directly under it.
Maybe if you had it a while away, and had a player sensor near the crushers. The player sensor ooks up to the pistons, which are set to forwards backwards?

You could always set the piston strength to 5 weakness and attach a 10 strength winch on each crusher and hook it up to a player sensor so when they're in the sensor area it pulls the crushers apart very quickly.2012-05-05 23:34:00
