The level now loads properly. There was an error that the clown fish I created caused. Works good now, and a new clown fish will be added soon.2009-01-08 00:14:00

Hi Lamniformes,

I am an aquarium lover since i'm 15 years old, so you can imagine how your level interested me as soon as i saw your thread on the forum...

I finally had the time to play it. The level is built as a real fishroom, i mean that you see several aquarium with specific populations on it. I loved the high specificity of your aquariums in term of fish content. Here some of my thoughts:

PRO:
-I loved the way you ask the player to reward the level with a heart as a sort of entrance tax. I ordinary do not like when people ask hearts. But it is here so nicely asked and present that i feel this good!
- Your Fishes are Impressives!
-Your sharks are Awesomes!!
-Your level smell passion (btw, If you have aquariums (for real) at home, what kind of fish do you maintain?)

SUGGESTIONS:
- My first suggestion and the main problem for me in your level is that it is really static in the first phase. IU think there is a lot of things you could add to improve the feeling of life in your aquarium. First, the fish didn't move. It is a choice a really do not understand here. Your fishes are so beautiful that you MUST make them move (it is not an order...but near lol). Second you could add emiters with floating bubbles in the water. I actually finishing my last porject, The Bearer, in wich there is a section underwater with such bubbles. It is not actually an aquarium but just to see what i mean, I invite you to send me friend request on the PSN and to travel in my in progress level. I make the proposal, you do what you want now
Third, to add some life in your level, i suggest to add some audi elements such as wave, water sounds and water bubbles near yopur aquariums. It could add a lot to the atmosphere.
- My second suggestion concerns light effects and background in your aquarium. I didn't see light effect in your level, and you can trust me that well oriented blue spotlight coming from up in your aquyariums could ADD A LOT to the overall beauty. Moeover you could add one or two more materials in the background of the aquariums.
- The level is a little bit short. It is actually a good thing here because i think your thermometer is far to be full and it will be more easy to add new elements.

Overall, even if my suggestions are more developped than my pro, i loved your level and you already do a great work. However i think you could do something more beautiful with just some touches of work.
As i said you, i love aquarium and i'm passionate of the water world, so, i gave your level 4 stars. However, i do not know what could be the opinion of somebody that do not know anything about fishes.

Thanks for the feedback. The first good feedback I've received since publishing the level. I've received a good star rating, 60+ plays in 3 days, and 20 hearts which I am happy to receive so quickly. What I was missing was good feedback. I will take you suggestions and try and improve in areas that I feel could be improved. The reason I didn't make the fish move is because you can see the connection points behind the fish since they are glass with stickers applied to them. I did look into it. I also would like to have them emitted and float across the tank like the fluff materials but the glass doesn't work that way, and the glass is what makes the fish colors look so good. Bubble I will definitely be adding in future revisions. As for the sounds... I have bubble sounds by the aquariums, a splash when the mako shark comes out of the water, and wave sounds around the shark tank... Can you not hear them? Maybe something is glitched and I need to fix something.

I thought the heart admission worked at the entrance because I was trying to think of a good thing to put at the ticket booth. What better than to throw in a "heart" which is a form of payment. I dislike how some level beg for hearts, but felt mine fit in with the level and was not out of place.

Thanks for the input, It was great. I will add you to my friends and play your levels. Is there one you would like a review of?

BTW, I do not currently have a fish tank. I'm in an apartment now and travel a good bit and that makes it tough to keep tropical fish satisfied. I do plan on getting a tank someday though. However, I do scuba dive alot (hence the travel) and I also dive in the city aquarium in Pittsburgh. So I get to be around tropical fish and sharks all the time. Do you have a tank? If so what do you have? Any fish suggestions for my LBP tanks?

Thanks Again

Hey! Just played your level :

+ First level I see with no real objective or mission. While I'm not a big fan of this kind of levels, I enjoyed playing yours.
+ The start was cool, with the Gift Shop as an hidden zone.
+ Nice fishes.

- Add more hidden zones with bubbles, it will be more fun to explore your level. This will entertain other players like me who are looking for something to do more than just something to see.
- Add life in your aquarium (Takelow already gave you good ideas for that)
- The part where the shark trying to eat you is cool at first, but way too long. Maybe something should happen before, like dolphins jumping out of the water and following you. Then, just as you are about to reach the end, the shark tries to eat you! It would be more surprising!
- Maybe you could add 2 or 3 questions at the end about what we saw in the level, like "Which of these fishes belongs in the Pacific tank?", then you add 3 switches with 3 diffrents answers. Then you reward good answers with bubbles.

Hope it helps!

I need some comments too on a level I made. If you have some time, the link is in my signature. Thanks!

The reason I didn't make the fish move is because you can see the connection points behind the fish since they are glass with stickers applied to them.

There is some way to do moving fish without seing connection points. Something like what have done CCubbage in it "Space Invader Deluxe" level could be useful. Take a look to this level and observe ennemies/ They are perfectly moving without any connection point.

I have bubble sounds by the aquariums, a splash when the mako shark comes out of the water, and wave sounds around the shark tank... Can you not hear them? Maybe something is glitched and I need to fix something.

I'm sorry but when i played, i certainly missed them. Nevertheless, you can add a lot of good sound in your level.

I will add you to my friends and play your levels. Is there one you would like a review of?

My levels are not F4F cause i want to choose the levels i review. Then, your feedback in one of my level in return is not an obligation regarding the rules of the forum. However, if you want to test one of my level, and i will be very happy of that, feel free to choose one of my spotlighted level and to write some words on the specific thread

BTW, I do not currently have a fish tank. I'm in an apartment now and travel a good bit and that makes it tough to keep tropical fish satisfied. I do plan on getting a tank someday though.

Ho! I'm sure you will have your own aquarium as soon as possible

Do you have a tank?
Hoooo yes!
I have a tropical aquarium dedicated to fishes such as Discus and various Apistogramma which are cichlidae fishes. I also love a lot aquatic plants. Here some pics for exemple:

Any fish suggestions for my LBP tanks?

There is a lot of thing you could do here. I f i remember well, there is only marine fishes and no tropical fishes in your level. A beautiful amazonian aquarium could be wonderfull and i can give you more pics if you need them.
BTW, if you have questions or needs informations regarding tropical fishes, feel free to ask

I love to see little plugs of my levels in other topics! (Takelow - that is one stunning aquarium you have there!)

Quick note on moving the fish smoothly. In the thick layer furthest to the back, use pistons to control light material moving any which way you want it. Glue the fish to this material in the middle thick layer. THEN, put the fish tank thin layer in-between. The fish will stay glued to the material behind them and voila! Fish appearing to float around the tank.

(this even works with emitters if you want more control over fish appearing and then floating around.)

Lamniformes,
I really like how unique your level concept was and with some of the most beautiful creatures on the planet.

Pros:

Original fish design
I really liked the gift shop
Charging admission with a heart. Great idea.

Cons:

The aquariums don't feel as lifelike as the could. It's needs a little movement. Maybe you can add air pumps and swimming fish.
It's a little on the short side.
Needs more to do. Maybe feed the fish mini game.
I wanted to collect the fish stickers but couldn't find them. Did I miss something?

Overall I think you you have a fresh and original concept for a level that just needs a little more interactive attractions.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will be check out your levels tonight after the football games and leaving feedback for you.

For the moving fish, I have my fish on thin layers and they do not look as good making them the middle thick layer to float around. I can play around with it and try to find something that works. I also liked the look of the open back of the tank instead of making a custom background. It made the fish look alot brighter.

I do plan on making alot more hidden areas and this is where I will be placing my fish prize bubbles (haven't released them yet). I have some good ideas for 2x, 3x, and 4x challenges too. The thought of a feed the fish game, clean alge from the tank, fish clogged in the pump, etc... to add to my level. Thats why I was asking if people would rather see additional tanks and more fish, or more behind the scenes type stuff on the 2nd floor. I left the construction zone area in the middle of the level to allow for new tanks and an elevator to the 2nd floor.

For the shark chase area, I agree it is too long. I want to make him just lunge out once and then drop back into the water.

For future tanks, I was considering fresh water tanks like the amazon (like they have at the Zoo aquarium I dive at), a cold water area (penguins and seals), dolphins and whales, and deep water tank with the fish with lights on them, and creatures like crabs and lobster.

I think I will concentrate of tweaking the current level with your ideas and suggestions first, and then add more tanks later. I do need to recreate the Clown Fish that was causing "Fail to Load" problems first.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Nice tank Takelow. When I get a tank, I want either a Lion Fish or Small Shark.

Hi played 2day,( i havent made a level yet so u cant feedback lol)

I like how youve made something different from the crowd and enjoyed it.

What I liked was the way you ask 4 a heart lol. I like how youve designed the fish, I can tell you care about them and you had fun creating them.

For future improvements: I think you can make larger and more varied tanks. Instead of having the usual plain blue background you could do a large tank with species of plants aswell. Include varied lighting aswell. And also maybe you can make some tanks so theyre not a bit high up but level with Sckboy so when you walk past them it seems as if your walking in them.

All in all nice level 4 stars hearted

Very cool, your fish are beautifully etched and stickered. Wonderful work... I am so elated that you didn't use the story level objects for fish, because it's so lazy. You went the full 9 on this and did it PERFECTLY!

The presentation of the tanks is nice.

I would put some glass on the front of the tanks and move the fish back just a bit, and put them on either tiny wobble bolts or some covered up springs/winches. They should move a little...

I didn't get any dialogue boxes on some of the fish where I thought I would. You should put a little etching plate on the front of the tank like it were a museum and do a cut scene camera that zooms up on some scribbled letter looking stuff - I think that would be cool. If you get on encyclopedia online or something, I bet you could find some cool descriptions of the fish that would add a nice informative/educational touch. Maybe add the scientist voice to it, and a big intercom looking thing at the side with electricity spikes emitting out of it to look like loud sound.

The exhibit motif was very original and I really like your admission thing at the beginning ... I only wish there was more to do in this level. The shark should make some more noises, and you could make it freak out a little more... maybe make the thing break and drop, like "woops!" and then have to swim your way out of the tank with the shark chasing you Skulldozer style, and then the exhibit manager apologizes to you at the end and gives you free passes for life lol - anyway, I know this is a passive level, made for looks and I appreciate that.

Save the current music and use it at the gondolea part where things get more intense, or maybe use the "Battle On the Ice" music for the shark part where he jumps out... and use more happy, relaxing music for the initial fish part.

It's your vision though, good work overall. Will look forward to more tanks in the future.

It might be better to just change the order of the whole level. I would do one fish tank or two, mini game, one fish tank or two, mini game, one fish tank or two, etc. It will make the board more engaging. Just my 2 cents.

Okay, I played your level a little bit ago and here's what I thought:

What I liked:

Well, it wasn't a very action packed level, but that's what I expected. I expected an art level, and that is what I got. The fish look incredible, probably better than MM could make. I mean really, how you were able to make the fish that detailed is something I will wonder for a long time. And the mako shark was a nice touch .

What I didn't like:
The fish really should move. And, it would be cool if you could interact with the fish, like feeding them. By pressing a feed button, food drops into the tank and the fish move up to the food and then "eat" it.

It was nice to see somebody using this game for something other than the obvious platforming level. 4 Stars.

Thanks for the feedback. It's all been very helpful in determining what I should do next with my level. I left feedback on levels for Takelow, JackBurton25, and Psybex. All really good levels. The people on this site make some of the best community levels I've played. Awesomemans, I will be playing your level and giving you feedback. Thanks2009-01-11 14:29:00

Just wanted to say good job on the level.. i love fish tanks used to have a bunch setup in the house. Always wanted a Clown Trigger, but loved my flame angle too.

Takelow your tank looks great always thought Discus were cool but never made the time to get my hard water down the their parameters so I had to do more of the hard water Cichlids.

I'm not sure if i can post a "good job comment" in a F4F thread but wanted to tell you i liked it, i dont want any F4F for my levels, just not sure how to comment on the level without going through this thread. I even read the F4F thread and could find where it said what to do about just commenting on level Sorry CC dont yell at me
