The deadmau5 thread!

Archive: 10 posts

deadmau5 is the most awesomest producer everz!
ATM i'm watching his stream (well i was, but he ended it. His next stream is on Sunday or Monday). He is working on some songs! http://live.deadmau5.com/

For those who don't know, deadmau5 is an electro producer who has been making music since the 90's. He is extremely skilled at it (don't take my word for it).

Discuss about deadmau5 here!

Ah, hello, 2 week old thread. May I bump you?

Deadmau5 is alright, imo. I have to admit that I do watch his live streams also from time to time, as it's interesting to see him "work." However, I wouldn't call him the "most awesomest" ever.

He's good at what he does, and that's a given. But, for my tastes, his stuff is very formulaic. I mean, it's not bad, it's just predictable. I often wonder, when listening to him, if he produces track solely for the purpose of easier mixing. That's cool, I guess, and I'm sure a lot of other producers do it, especially if they DJ as well, but it can sometime get a bit like "oh, it's that Deadmau5 song that goes 'bum, bum, bum ,tssk, chk- bum, bum, bum, tssk, chk" if you know what I mean?

Also, the Mau5 head, although cool and impressive as ****aki mushrooms, is a gimmick which I feel has helped him greatly to achieve where he's at, and, without it, he would be just another electronic producer. I've always thought that he went into it thinking "I'll be just like Daft Punk, no one will know!", but eventually his ego took control and he liked the fame too much.

But enough personal evaluation, I am a fan of his music and it makes for good listening. Also, he feels like one of our own, who managed to hit it big. The cool thing is, I don't think he's forgotten that either.

A very good post.

Same here, although sometimes he lets his ego get in the way of normal conversation... and music. Also, I'm not a big fan of his 'DJ' skills. Most of the time he's just selecting a new song to play on his laptop, changes the volume every once in a while, and moves his head around like a bobble head. At least Daft Punk looked professional instead of letting their fame and egos stop them from staying in focus with making songs.

Go to bed, Joel, go to bed.

That never ceases to make me laugh.

His songs are SO generic, they're basicly pointless. It seems like I only hear about Skrillex and Deadmau5 when it comes to electronic music. In my opinion, Deadmau5 doesn't even compare to Skrillex. Skrillex has actual tunes and sick effects, and Deadmau5 songs are literally just "Some Chords."2012-05-16 23:17:00

I disagree. I prefer D5 over Skrillex because, even if D5 sounds slower and generic, it has a more harmonic flow of music, while Dubstep keeps changing the pace and melody. When I find a sound that I like, it suddenly goes to a totally different tune.

I have nothing against electronic genres, but for me, real instruments > electronic.

lol, real music is way better than electronic to me. I listen to Progressive and rhapsodies alot, so I kinda get bored with the same tune over and over again. My favorite Deadmau5 song is probably "Raise Your Weapon," it has a Dubstep-type solo somewhere in the middle, and the piano is pretty cool in it too. That's like his only song I really like lol2012-05-16 23:29:00

Listen to his old stuff. Few of them being "A Moment to Myself", "Waking Up from the American Dream", and "Brazil*". They're all beautiful songs.

*Don't look up the second edit, find the original mix.
