Rayman Legends. PS4/XB1 Feb 18-21 2014 PS3/360/PC/Vita/Wii U Out Now.

http://www.gamekult.com/actu/rayman-legends-premiere-video-wii-u-A101141.html

In the wake of the first leak, we were able to get hold of a video of Rayman Origins 2, which confirms both the name Legends of Rayman and the new direction of this episode.

We thus find the mythological worlds and mini-games, along with a new graphic style rounder, additional characters and online play. But the most interesting features is exclusive to the Wii U, allowing the player using the mablette interact with environments and even placing objects - a heart, in this case - on the touch screen to restore life the characters. The end of the trailer even suggests that one could ask for inviting characters figurines Ubisoft at the party.

Knowing that the original video has been removed from YouTube by the editor, there is little doubt whether a true leak and that the company would have liked to keep it for E3.

Rayman Legends seems like a real thing. A video of the still to be announced sequel has emerged online.

French website Gamekult is carrying the video. There?s also a YouTube link, but Ubisoft has ?blocked it?.

The video shows the mythology aspect that was in the previously-outed survey from earlier this week, whilst keeping the classic gameplay and art style that made Origins a great game.

But the biggest ? and arguably, exciting ? part of the trailer shows the game getting a Wii U specific version that features NFC support in the same vein of Skylanders. Nintendo had previously mooted NFC support with the system.

A heart-shaped item is seen placed on the tablet controller that shows hearts falling to the ground in game. A second scene shows a model for a Raving Rabbid, which began life in Rayman: Raving Rabbids in 2006 at Wii?s launch, being placed on the controller and being transformed into the game.

A third scene teased Ezio from Assassin?s Creed sharing the same fate.

It was shown yesterday that Ubisoft had registered two domains for Legends following the leak of the survey on Monday. Get the video below before it ends up pulled.

Thanks, Ben!

Ubisoft have confirmed that the recent leaked video of Rayman Legends is indeed real.
?An internal video showing images of Rayman Origins? sequel has leaked over the Internet,? the publisher said in a statement to TheSixthAxis.
?This video was intended as a purely internal demonstrative video, and in NO way represents the final game, the final console or their features.?
?This video was destined for internal production teams who often create game prototypes with work in progress development kits. Ubisoft confirms the development of Rayman Legends handled by Michel Ancel and his team in Montpellier.?

Big necro for big news.

Ubisoft has announced that Rayman Legends (http://wii.ign.com/objects/132/132880.html) has been delayed and will no longer be a Wii U exclusive. Legends will now hit Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U in early September, more than six months later than its original release date of February 26th (http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/12/07/rayman-legends-gets-release-date-demo).
At the DICE summit in Vegas, IGN spoke with Xavier Poix, managing director of Ubisoft?s French studios (including Ubisoft Paris, Annecy and Rayman developer Montpellier) about the reasons behind both the delay and the move to multiple consoles.
?When we saw all the comments when we announced the game would be focused on Wii U, all of the people that have both the PlayStation 3 and 360 were really disappointed,? Poix told IGN. ?So we thought it was making more sense to also bring the game to where it was originally from. That means Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. So we decided to go for a multiplatform launch simultaneously.?

Poix explained that the GamePad-based cooperative experience of Rayman Legends will remain exclusive to Wii U, while the Xbox and PlayStation versions will operate more similarly to Rayman Origins. He couldn?t offer many specifics just yet but indicated that more information will be coming leading up to the game?s release.
?It's a different kind of experience if you have the Wii U,? Poix said. ?Obviously there will be cooperation on the PS3 and 360, but on the Wii U there is still this magic of having one player that can play on one system with a new experience and the other on the usual game pad. That stays a Wii U exclusive for sure, by definition.?
Poix explained that the same team is developing all three versions (and also developed Rayman Origins). When asked about what PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 players can expect, he explained that fans of Origins will be more than happy with Legends.

?If they loved the Origins experience, it's close to the same kind of feeling but with a level of immersion and brand new settings that haven?t been seen before. We have other features that I can?t disclose right now, but it's really a brand new game. Even in terms of visuals, we built our own engine in terms of lighting, in terms of having 3D elements so you can have dragons that fly from far to go in your face and back. It's a unique kind of 2D platforming experience.?
As for the reason for the delay, Poix explained that ?it's really about the fans. It's really about having a very interesting universe, a mix of craziness and poetry mixed all together. We are very happy that we can bring that to many, many Rayman fans and the more we can, the better.?

Hey, guys... do you hear that?

THAT'S THE SOUND OF ME FLICKING THE CHIP OFF MY SHOULDER.

When they said it was going to be a Wii U-only game, it felt like a punch in the gut. I have little respect for devs who turn franchises which were previously multiplatform into exclusives. It's like spitting in the face of the fans who supported them.

Good thing Ubisoft has come around. Wii U users will have to wait a little longer, but they have the extra gamepad features as compensation. Hard to feel sorry for them.

As someone who doesn't have a Wii U, I'm thrilled. I loved Rayman Origins to death (yuck) and can't wait to play the sequel.

However, this game was about three weeks from launch on the Wii U, and Ubisoft has (unwisely) confirmed that the delay is due to porting it to other consoles. That isn't cool.

I'm happy this is now a multiplatform release, but it is a huge slap in the face to Wii U owners.

Aww man, that stinks, and yet at the same time, is cool. I was hoping to compile a certain number of awesome Wii U games to make a purchase for the console justifiable, and only Ninten. Land, Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3, and Monolith Soft's new JRPG filled that list. (Three of which aren't even out yet..) Now that it's coming to PS3, that defeats the purpose of getting it, although now I'm probably just being whiney. Still, the Wii U version is always an option with the bonus co-op, plus if I decide to get the PS3 version, that's another game to keep me on it. Ah well, waiting until September should give me time to start and finish all the Wii games I've got lying around.2013-02-08 03:24:00

That's two fairly big PS3 titles that are confirmed for Q3 2013 in the last 72 hours (first GTA V, now Rayman). Do you suppose these sudden announcements in the last few days are a reflection of industry confidence that the PS4 is NOT going to launch in Q3 after all?2013-02-08 08:35:00

So the game was aparently finished and is being held back just for a simultanious launch.

Ubisoft says the delay to the formerly exclusive Wii U version of Rayman Legends (http://www.joystiq.com/game/rayman-legends) is solely because of the multiplatform release, and nothing to do with any development issues. Speaking to Digital Spy (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a457208/ubisoft-explains-rayman-legends-wii-u-delay.html), the publisher explicitly stated the only reason for the new September release window is the additional platforms of Xbox 360 and PS3.

"We usually release all of our platforms simultaneously (aside from PC)," an Ubisoft rep told Digital Spy. "We've made special exception sometimes in the past but it's definitely just on a case by case basis and not our standard practice. I know it's not an elaborate, 'convincing' answer, but it's the simple truth."

In short, the game could have come out when it was originally intended to, which was February 26 in North America. Ubisoft simply chose not to do that. However, if you think Wii U owners are dismayed by the news, imagine how the developers behind the game feel.

That's the message imparted to fans by someone believed to be an Ubisoft employee on Spanish forum EOL (http://www.elotrolado.net/hilo_ho-rayman-legends_1778079_s740#p1731624234). As translated by NeoGAF (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=512249), the employee, who apparently has a history of posting about his work at Ubisoft on the forum, said it was hard to swallow working so hard over six months and barely seeing family and friends, all to ensure the game came out on time, only to find out about the delay. He asked fans not to turn their backs on the game or the team behind it because "some men in ties one day took a wrong choice." His full post reads:
"I completely understand you but you have to understand one thing. This is not a decision taken by the development team, this comes from really really high up, so please don't pick on the game. If you're ******, imagine how we feel. Think on the situation, we've been making overtime with this game practically since May preparing E3, and then almost a demo per month (gamescom, Wii U presentation, shops, eShop, etc...) and at the same time trying to actually finish the game. We had a first delay because it was obvious we couldn't finish on time but we gave it all to be there on February. What face do you think we had when the week we had to close the game we're being told it's not going to be released? I couldn't believe it. For practical matters, you'll have to wait for some months for the game to be released and will most likely serve for more content to be added and do it better. For us, this means we've spent 6 months barely seeing our wives, kids, and friends for nothing because, after all, such haste wasn't needed. Believe it, it was a hell to swallow these news. Even then I'm firm in what I said back in the day, Rayman Legends is an excellent game and will still be, and the team that's making it doesn't deserve to have your back turned on them just because some men in ties one day took a wrong choice. This industry is really that ******."

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/08/ubisoft-clarifies-rayman-legends-delay/

As a consolation prize Wii U owners get a second exclusive demo.

Thanks for all your feedback regarding Rayman (http://www.facebook.com/rayman?group_id=0) Legends in all of its forms. We have heard you and we will continue to listen. We understand your frustration and that you want to get your hands on the game.

We are working with the development team to provide you with a new, exclusive demo for the Wii U soon. Stay tuned for more.

Perhaps early-mid september is just enough distance from next gen (1-2 months maybe) for it to be not much of an issue.

30 extra levels and some extra bosses the good side of delays.

Michel Ancel has told ONM that fans' reaction to the Rayman Legends delay didn't surprise him.

In an exclusive interview that appears in the new issue of Official Nintendo Magazine, Ancel told us what it was like for the Montpellier studio when Ubisoft took the decision to delay his team's new platformer in order to release it at the same time as Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

Rayman Legends was meant to be released in February 2013 but fans slammed the decision to delay it until September, with some even protesting outside Ubisoft Montpellier's office. However, Ancel wasn't shocked by the fans' fury.

"No, I wasn't shocked, but it was really hard for us. Of course, there are more important issues and problems in the world but we worked really hard to make something and were so involved, it was difficult for us and the fans."

However Ancel, together with Senior Game Manager Michael Micholic, have used the extra time to create new content for the game. The result is 30 extra levels and some new boss battles.
Micholic said: "Trust me, the things we are adding aren't minor. We're not talking about adding some polish here and there, but 30 new levels and several new bosses."
You can read the full interview with Michel Ancel and Michael Micholic in the new issue of Official Nintendo Magazine which is out now. You can buy it here (http://www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/gaming/official-nintendo-magazine-back-issues/official-nintendo-mag-may-13/).

The Rayman Legends Challenges app will be released for free on the Wii U eShop this Thursday, 25th April, Nintendo has announced.
The app is Ubisoft's peace-offering (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-19-ubisoft-hurt-seeing-rayman-legends-wii-u-fans-upset-at-delay-extends-new-olive-branch) to fans left stung (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-11-ubisoft-promises-wii-u-exclusive-rayman-legends-demo-after-fans-vent-anger-at-delay) at the delay of the previously-exclusive high profile platformer.
Rayman Legends will now launch for Wii U in September alongside its new PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, but the game's challenge mode has been excised and launched digitally.
Four levels will be available for 1-5 players and will be altered regularly in daily and weekly challenges. Records are saved on leaderboards and you can race friends' ghosts.

Ubisoft?s former WiiU exclusive may be making its way to the PS Vita as well. According to Spanish retailer FNAC (http://www.fnac.es/Rayman-Legends-PS-Vita-Juego-PS-Vita/a884805?SID=c83dce6a-8451-d8bf-bcab-b75280c1038e&UID=0271F796D-E01C-0808-417D-7F95E066EBAC&Origin=FnacAff&OrderInSession=0&TTL=191020131244), Rayman Legends will be available for to the PS Vita this August 29th.
http://thesilentchief.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/rayman-legends.jpg (http://www.fnac.es/Rayman-Legends-PS-Vita-Juego-PS-Vita/a884805?SID=c83dce6a-8451-d8bf-bcab-b75280c1038e&UID=0271F796D-E01C-0808-417D-7F95E066EBAC&Origin=FnacAff&OrderInSession=0&TTL=1 91020131244)
As we?ve seen in the past FNAC has been pretty accurate with its listings as the retailer was one of the first to publish the Jak & Daxter HD Collection for the PlayStation Vita as well as a delay for Naughty Dog?s The Last of Us.

Ubisoft have announced the release dates.

Rayman Legends hits North America on August 27, an Ubisoft spokesperson tells us, and August 30 in Europe. The Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U game pips its previous "early September" release window by just a smidge after its delay (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/07/rayman-legends-delayed-to-september-also-coming-to-xbox-360-and/) earlier this year.

The news is joined by today's arrival of the game's precursory Online Challenges app on the Wii U eShop. The free demo includes Land of the Livid Dead, Neverending Pit, and Infinite Tower levels, as well as the GamePad-tailored Murfy's Dungeon run.

The app also features daily and weekly "Extreme Challenges," unlocked by winning cups and subsequently increasing your "Awesomeness Level." Ubisoft didn't say what happens if your Awesomeness Level is already Super Duper Awesome.

Update: We were earlier provided with a release date of August 27 for North America by an Ubisoft spokesperson. We were then contacted with a corrected date of September 3.

I haven't payed much attention to Legends, even though the Rayman games have always been some of my favourites. I kind of lost interest in Origins when it stopped being a prequel. I played the demo a bit and I've played the actual game in hmv or somewhere but never bought it...I love the art style and it's pretty fun though. I bought the ios game the other day and I really like that so I'm thinking I might actually get Origins at some point. And maybe Legends, we'll see.

Still hoping to see Rayman 4 some day though

A brand new trailer for Rayman Legends showcasing Ocean World, one of the game?s underwater levels, has been released by Ubisoft. The firm has also sent over shots of pre-order incentives for the game.

The ?20 000 Lums under the Sea? world contains all sorts of new enemies and players can manipulate light and dark using gameplay mechanics based on stealth and infiltration.
Rayman Legends will be available on PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 on August 30 in the UK, and if you pre-order through GAME, you?ll get exclusive content consisting of special character skins based on other Ubisoft franchises: For Nintendo Wii U, Barbara is dressed as Aveline De Grandpr? from Assassin?s Creed Liberation; for PS3, Rayman can dressed as Edward Kenway from Assassin?s Creed 4: Black Flag; and for Xbox 360, Rayman can dress as Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

Vita version announced.

?Rayman Legends on Vita includes all of the original Rayman Legends content,? says the press release, ?as well as five exclusive maps playable with Murphy, the green bottle fly seen in previous Rayman games, controlled through the Rear TouchPad.?
?A multiplayer mode is locally accessible on Wi-Fi and fans from the same country can play in cooperation.Players can also compete with one another in the online challenges and compare rankings in the online leaderboards.?

Well, the game still comes with Miiverse integration, Off-TV play, the free Challenge app, and unless Vita and PS3 integrate it together, Murphy levels exclusive to the Wii U version.

It is weird though how the Wii U version's pre-order bonus doesn't get an outfit for Rayman like the others, but instead for a side character whose only appearance is in this one.

Oh, it turns out the Vita version gets the challenge mode, five exclusive levels, and facebook integration. :F I was sorta hoping the Wii U version would be the vastly supreme version of the game at least, for more incentive to buy the Wii U. I guess exclusives might be more of the console's selling point this time around. (again)

Woops, I meant "first-party exclusives" at the end of my post earlier. But yeah, game looks great no matter what platform it's on. Since I'm not the biggest PC gamer, don't own a Vita, and don't own an Xbox, I guess it's either PS3 or Wii U anyway. By the way, do Wii U games take forever to drop in price like the case was with a lot of Wii games(or at least with first-party ones)?2013-05-29 02:44:00

By the way, do Wii U games take forever to drop in price like the case was with a lot of Wii games(or at least with first-party ones)?

I'm guessing that launch titles are 39.99 max.

The sun has already set as we take our seats. It's been another baking hot day in Montpellier, home to Michel Ancel's Ubisoft studio, and there's a nervy tension amongst the crowd as the man on stage picks up a controller. "Guys," he says, staring at two people in front of me, "you're up first".
The pair is soon joined by a rival duo, taking their seats across from them. Handshakes are exchanged, sweaty palms are wiped on trouser legs, and then all eyes turn to the big screen in front. "I'll be Rayman," one entrant mutters. "You be Globox. Hang back in goal." This isn't the normal mode of Rayman Legends - this is the mini-game Kung Foot, a ridiculously distracting side-attraction that Ancel and co. developed on a whim.
It's a 2D football game for up to four players, with simple physics and an even simpler fighting mechanic - you can aim punches at opponents and leave them momentarily stunned, enough time for a quick lob in the direction of their goal. But because of its simplicity it immediately becomes tactical.
Do you keep both men up front? Leave one back to cover your goal line? Do you just be a **** and permanently harass their keeper? Ubisoft Montpellier apparently had implemented more complicated controls for dribbling and trick shots but removed them during play-testing - simple is better. And from the amount of people previewing the game whose screens were permanently locked on Kung Foot throughout the day, it was the right decision.
http://images.eurogamer.net/2013/articles/1/5/9/8/7/7/6/137405144298.jpg/EG11/resize/600x-1/quality/91 Kung Foot is 'an excellent drinking game', according to Ancel.

That extra layer of finishing touches is evident throughout the game. Legends already looked an accomplished release back in January, when it was destined for imminent launch on Wii U. But with six months bonus development time (and new PlayStation 3, Vita and Xbox 360 versions), Legends has been buffed to a shine. It was the knowledge that Montpellier would be given the extra months to polish the game that placated Ancel after he heard of the delay. Ancel explained to Eurogamer that he sees it now as a "logical decision", but game designer Emile Morel told me, smiling, that Ancel was initially "not too happy about it".
New features since January include the gigantic bosses at the end of each level - the only 3D-designed creations in Legends' evolved UbiArt engine. One example sees a fight against a massive, screen-filling luchador, who must be defeated with some deft platforming around the edges of a fiery molten lava pit. Montpellier has also been working on new "Invasion" levels for the main campaign, where maps you've already beaten become infested with new enemies. These remixed levels offer a significantly harder challenge and come with a time limit to boot. Rayman fans will also cherish a selection of "Back to Origins" levels from Legends' predecessor, rejigged and pimped out with the latest that the UbiArt engine has to offer.
The whole game is charming to look at and mess about in, but there are some stand-out beautiful moments. The Greek-themed Olympus Maximus levels take you from airborne olive groves amongst pink wispy clouds to the dank depths of Hades, while the Fiesta de la Muertos world recaptures the Mexican Day of the Dead spirit, dancing skulls and all.
Another highlight is the tricksy 20,000 Lums Under the Sea levels, which parody both Jules Vernes and Splinter Cell. There are areas where a green-visored Rayman must swim through tight tunnels while avoiding spotlights and enemy sightlines, and stealth his way through simple puzzles involving switches, mines and traps.
All of the levels are better with friends involved, and up to four players (five on Wii U) can essentially drop in and drop out at any time. But the lack of the GamePad controller for non-Wii U versions is sometimes a problem. Ubisoft has done its best to replicate the touchscreen Murphy character's actions for other systems by having him move automatically and be operable with the simple press of a button at the right time. But this removes some of the fun of frantically looking from screen to screen to balance what's happening on both, and of performing Murphy's movements and actions yourself (such as firing a slingshot, re-arranging platforms, or tickling and swatting away enemies).
You also lose some of the precision gained by controlling the character directly with a fingertip. In one level Murphy must eat through a solid section of cake to create a tunnel for the players to follow. But the timing when he's automatically moving on PS3/Xbox 360 versions is less precise - I had to restart several times after munching through the level too far and getting drowned in syrupy lava.
The most enjoyable levels in the game remain the music-themed stages, where every jump, every punch, every glissando down a zip-wire is designed to fit perfectly with the game's backing soundtrack. The Rayman Legends demo on Wii U already includes Ram Jam's rendition of Black Betty, and later levels include a Mexican-themed Eye of the Tiger on kazoos and a version of Anthrax's Antisocial.
http://images.eurogamer.net/2013/articles/1/5/9/8/7/7/6/137405182913.jpg/EG11/resize/600x-1/quality/91 We already cleared this level, then this guy turned up for its Invasion remix.

Rayman Legends is now finally finished, and "will not be delayed again!" Ancel jokes at one point to the crowd. The game is currently going through various stages of submission with platform holders and is due on shop shelves in a little over a month. It's been a long road for him and his team, but the final product feels like the wait will have been worthwhile.
"In the long run, it's a better thing," Morel concluded, thinking back to the torrent of anger Ubisoft faced from Wii U owners when the delay was announced. "Everyone was asking when we showed it on Wii U why we were not bringing it to PS3 and Xbox 360, especially after they bought Rayman Origins for those systems. So we thought, at least some people will be pleased by the decision.
"It would have been easy to say 'let's just push the game on the shelf and wait for it to be released later, but everyone saw it as an opportunity. We're really proud of the game we have now. It was good in January but now it's even better. I hope players will forgive us when they have the final game in their hands."

PC version confirmed.

Ubisoft has announced a PC edition of Rayman Legends, to arrive in Europe alongside other console versions on 30th August.
Originally a Wii U-exclusive, Legends was delayed to be released simultaneously on PlayStation 3, Vita and Xbox 360.
But the wait isn't all bad news - Eurogamer's handsomely-bearded Tom Phillips played Rayman Legends earlier this month (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-07-17-what-the-delays-done-for-rayman-legends) and found the final version was all the better for its extra development time.
The game now has a range of extra modes (harder "Invasion" level remixes and new versions of classic Rayman Oranges areas). You also get the excellent soccer/beat-'em-up party game Kung Foot.
The downside is that the Wii U touchscreen elements are a little fiddly when replicated on non-touchscreen platforms, but frankly Michel Ancel's excellent platformer deserves to be in the hands of as many people as possible.

I do hope this game gets the attention it deserves, and proves you don't need to be Nintendo to make a platformer.

Seems Ubisoft believes in it too, hence why they ported it to as many things imaginable.

Does the PC version have the murphy levels? If not, then I'll be getting the Vita version.

I think all versions have the Murphy levels. He just automatically pops into place when you're in the right spot on the PS3 and 360

“Rayman Legends on Vita includes all of the original Rayman Legends content,” says the press release, “as well as five exclusive maps playable with Murphy, the green bottle fly seen in previous Rayman games, controlled through the Rear TouchPad.”

Well then, I think I'll pick it up on Vita and then maybe on pc during a steam sale.

Even though I doubt it will happen, it would be GREAT if the pc version had the original murphy controls with the mouse.

Last December Wii U owners got to try their hand at Ubisoft Montpellier's upcoming platformer Rayman Legends for the first time in a downloadable demo, and as of tomorrow Xbox 360, PS3 and Vita users will be granted the same opportunity.
The Rayman Legends demo coming to the more popular consoles is the exact same one as was first available to Wii U users. It contains the fairy tale-esque Teensies in Trouble level, along with the swamp-set A Toad Story, and the rhythm-based chase stage Castle Rock, which sees our hero (or heroine, depending on your character selection) running from a fire and demolishing enemy forces to the tune of Black Betty.
Additionally, Ubisoft has released a video walkthrough of the underwater chase stage Gloo Gloo, which is set to a cover of 5.6.7.8's song Woo Hoo from the Kill Bill soundtrack. Check that out below.

Rayman Legends is set to launch on 30th August in Europe on Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3, Vita, and PC. The Wii U version has the added benefit of allowing an additional player to use the Gamepad to control the sprite Murfy, who can shuffle platforms and various objects in the environment.

Also, any other PS3 owners want to add me in order to compete in the online challenges?

So wait, are the Murphy levels included in the PS3 version? I think I heard that they were but weren't as good as with the Wii U and Vita since they were built for the interactive touch screen controls and whatnot. I'm not sure if it really makes a big difference though. Since I don't have a 360 or a Vita, those versions are out of the question, and I prefer console gaming over PC most of the time, so that leaves PS3 and Wii U, the latter I don't have. But I'm wondering if I should hold out for Legends since I'll eventually pick up a Wii U, and just get that version since it has the touch-based levels and the Off-TV play features.

The Murphy Levels are in the PS3 version yeah, but you just press a button instead of swiping it. In the midst of a really fast level, it does get a bit exciting to have to press the O button at the right times, but I can't really say if getting the touchscreen capabilities is worth waiting.2013-10-06 02:18:00

Even though they're not as fancy as the Wii U version, I quite like the Murfy sections on the PS3. They add an extra layer of depth to the platforming, as you have to solve the puzzles while also platforming at the same time. So if you intend to keep the fast-paced flow you really have to concentrate and think fast.

They're very well executed. In the Wii U version they kind of interrupt the flow as the Murfy levels don't require you to do any kind of platforming. But I have been told they're the same as on the other platforms if you use a Pro Controller.

Buy two versions of the same game? Blasphemy!

Ah well, I'm too busy to play much anyway, maybe I can pick up Puppeteer and play that to get my platforming fix while I decide.

In the Wii U version the player with the tablet opens up the way by solving the puzzles as Murfy, while the players with regular controllers do the platforming. If you're playing solo, the character doing the platforming is controlled by AI. From what I hear, its pathfinding AI is really dumb and often makes mistakes, so it's advisable to play the Wii U levels with friends. But if you use a Wii U Pro Controller, the Murfy levels are identical to the PS3 version.

I'd really like to join you guys online, but unfortunately I won't be able to connect my PS3 to the internet for the foreseeable future

So the only real advantage the Wii U version seems to have is being able to play Rayman off the screen and on the GamePad - albeit just a few yards away..

So my decision could end up being based around how the price drops fluctuate not that this would be a game I'd try being cheap with, although a lot of Wii games (first-party titles at least) would take YEARS to start actually dropping in price.

Sorry about your PS3 though Snipy, that really stinks and I hope it can get fixed!

It's not a problem with my PS3. I live in a university residence and you can't connect to the building's internet without Virtual Private Network software. Therefore consoles can't connect to it, only computers.

Technically I shouldn't even be using the university's internet for stuff that isn't related to my studies, but thankfully they don't actually enforce that rule.

Spectacularly beautiful platformer Rayman Legends is coming to PS4 and Xbox One in February, Ubisoft has announced.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot nonchalantly mentioned in a financial call today that "Rayman next-gen is coming in February." After following up with the publisher we've received confirmation that this is indeed Rayman Legends on both PS4 and Xbox One he's referring to.

Forget chocolates and flowers and Valentine?s Day cards. Yes, February is traditionally a time for amore, but we?ve got something even more darling that?s sure to warm your hearts. Today, Ubisoft announced the next-gen release dates for Rayman Legends, which will be hopping onto PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 18 in North America and February 20 in Europe. The beloved platformer was already one of the top-rated games of 2013, but that didn?t stop Ubisoft Montpellier from putting even more love into these next-gen releases. We previously outlined some of what?s been enhanced for the new consoles (see: Rayman Legends Coming to Next-Gen Consoles (http://blog.ubi.com/rayman-legends-coming-to-next-gen-consoles/)) ? but for even more insight, we had a heart-to-heart chat with Lead Game Designer Emile Morel.
http://blog.ubi.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/nextgen_date_US_blog.jpg
You?ve added some new characters to the next-game versions. Tell us about them?
http://blog.ubi.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/GloboxVaas.jpgOn Xbox One and PlayStation 4, you?ll find new playable characters to unlock in the Heroes Gallery. On Xbox One, there are two characters directly inspired by Far Cry 3?s famous villain: Vaas! Ray Vass and Far Glob are two bizarre heroes dressed as this famous psychotic pirate. Also on Xbox One, players will have the opportunity to play Splinter Ray, a Sam Fisher-inspired hero.
On PS4, you?ll get to play Assassin Ray, a hero inspired by Edward Kenway from Assassin?s Creed IV Black Flag.
Also, using their Uplay points players will be able to buy the outrageous playable hero, Funky Ray.
Finally, players have the possibility to be awarded an exclusive VIP hero called Champion Ray (along with VIP status visible on the leaderboards). Champion Ray can be unlocked by the most active and highest-ranked players in the Online Challenges, as well as through active participation and involvement in the Rayman Legends community.
The Xbox One version has new time-limited achievements. How do these work?
On Xbox One, you?ll find 10 exclusive challenges that you have to complete in a limited amount of time. They?re in addition to the existing achievements on Xbox 360 and that will also be in the Xbox One version. These challenges require you to perform specific actions during a limited amount of time (one week). They are associated with various aspects of the game, such as player skills, co-op play, Kung Foot, and so on.
http://blog.ubi.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/XONE_Rayman_Vaas.jpg
The PS4 also has a few nifty additions. Any insight into those?
Right away we saw how the PS4 touchpad could be a great tool to show players all the amazing details our artists have put inside the visuals and the animations of the game. That?s why we created the Camera Mode using this touchpad. By pressing the touchpad once, you freeze the game and enter Camera Mode. In this mode, by moving your fingers on the touchpad you can zoom in and out and also pan to adjust the frame. When you?re happy with your picture, you just have to press the Share button on the PS4 controller to share this picture with everyone. This mode is a great way to pause the game to look at all the amazing details the game contains and it's also a great tool to be creative and build amazing pictures with all the elements you have in the game.
We are also using the touchpad of the PS4 controller to allow the player to scratch lucky tickets in the game. Using your fingers to scratch these tickets feels, of course, very natural, just like scratching an actual lottery ticket. You even hear the scratching sound coming out of the PS4 controller!
http://blog.ubi.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/PS4_scratch_lucky.jpg
On PS4, you?ll also have the possibility to play the full game in Remote Play on a PlayStation Vita connected to your PS4. So even if someone wants to watch TV, you?ll be able to continue playing the game on your PS Vita.
What about the graphics? The game is already gorgeous, with its 2D hand-drawn art. How specifically has it been enhanced for next-gen?
The power behind the Xbox One and the PS4 allows us to display the game?s textures without any compression on these consoles. This makes the game?s visuals even sharper than before and will allow players to see even more of the details and nuances our artists put into the textures of the game. These uncompressed textures highlight the hand-drawn style of the game?s visuals.
The enhanced power of these new consoles has also allowed us to do away with the loading times when entering or exiting a level. Jumping inside a painting will now start the level immediately. Jumping in and out of a level has never been faster and it's a great feeling to have such a seamless experience. Navigating in the game now feels smoother and your gaming experience is never stopped by loading transitions.
Did the UbiArt Framework help when building these next-gen versions?
UbiArt Framework was already allowing us to run the game at 60fps in 1080p on Xbox 360 and PS3, so it meant we already had more or less what you expect from a next-gen game in terms of display and fluidity. Building on that, porting the game with UbiArt Framework proved to be quite easy and the next-gen consoles allowed us to further optimize the game and make it a really amazing experience.
http://blog.ubi.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/PS4_sharing_Features.jpg
With the ease of streaming and sharing on next gen, do you hope to see more gamers streaming their best runs? And do you think this will enhance the experience?
We really hope that players will share their experiences in this game as much as possible, especially in the Online Challenges where we know that the competition can be very fierce! I especially hope that the best players in these challenges will share their best runs to show other players how they do it and what special tricks they use to make these amazing scores. Personally, I know that in the dev team some of us would love to learn the secret tricks from these high-ranked champions!
Along with the possibility to share and view their best runs, players can even broadcast their Kung Foot matches. All of this will really enhance the whole competition and multiplayer aspect of the game, and will push players to try again and again to improve themselves and beat the best scores!
Any secrets about the game that you can share? Something that you really love, that the fans might love too?
There?s something I really love in the game: It's all the crazy elements we placed in the background of the levels. Most people don't notice them, but if you take your time you can see some goofy things going on there: mushrooms playing acoustic guitar and trumpet, a tree suddenly starting to move and scampering away on its two little feet, and a lot of other crazy things! With even sharper visuals now on next-gen consoles ? and the ability to zoom on the PS4 ? I really hope that players will see and enjoy these funny animations!
