American Colleges

Ok, hi, long time, bla bla bla love you all

Anyways, I need help! And I would be much obliged to ANYONE who could help haha.

Currently, I'm in University studying, but one of my life goals has been to go to an American Uni (or college as you kids call it). Problem is, it's rather difficult when you're in the UK.

Basically, I'm looking for anyone who's either recently started college, still in college or recently just got out! I just have a load of questions, and google's doing me no good.

And the reason I came here first? Because it's the friendliest forum I've ever met, and I knew if anyone could help me, it'd be you guys!

Anyways, if you don't mind sharing a bit of knowledge and time with me, just send me a private mail or post here and we'll sort it out!

Once again LBPC, much love, until next time

What would you be looking to study? The same thing you are studying now? Because that might help getting you in with another faculty if you have some experience. I'm currently at Uni in the UK and can see reasons as to why you'd want to move to the US for an education, lol, just try to do your research as much as you can so you don't end up in a stink-hole!

The only other piece of advice I can give is that living in the US can be pretty costly, with all the insurance and stuff us Brits take for granted. As long as you have the money, dollar, dollar bill, y'all, you'll be fine.

Good luck!

Health insurance I think I'll be alright haha. I've never been to hospital in my life, and I have the immune system of a demigod xD Even so, I could just fly back if I got really ill.. right?

And yeah I'm currently studying Games Technology, and I've emailed the uni so they're gonna speak to the project leader for me and try see where a relevant course is offered

You could also ask about scholarships and exchange programs, to help get you an edge to get in.

Yeah I'll be using the exchange program, except I'd be finishing my degree there, not just a year exchange haha. As for you Rock, had you not already stated that your college was dry, i'd be all over that like a.. like a.. like me over vodka!2012-04-27 21:22:00

You could always get drunk around campus.

Then again, you could always not insult me with your presence. Huh.

Physically? Yes.

Mentally? Yes.

Logically? No.

Anyway, topic = off topic. Which is bad. Unless it is good.

No, the Hell joke was an evil warlord joke. It's a really nice campus and everyone's really friendly. Also, I unno if you got it, but the Virgina part was a joke. Considering the school name. lol.

Anyway, the course is called Gaming and Simulation. Though I just got through my first year so next is second. So I unno. if there's the slightest chance you'd be in my thing, I unno where you are. /shrug

I'm still a fresher right now haha, just gotta finish these exams in May, but I'll be second year next year (obviously).

What did you do in the first year? We've done 3d Modelling in Maya, learned some c#, learned about the whole game development process & history, and had to do some awful irrelevant other stuff with websites and media.. Oh and we learned about AI concepts (which are so so so so horrible)

We did a bunch of game design documents for a game and then made said game in Unity 3D. Also a bunch of labs where the professor walked us through a tutorial. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee2012-04-27 21:53:00

You've done more game related stuff than I've done haha. We've done hypothetical GDDs and TDDs but that's just coursework.

Iunno, I'ma just have to see what courses are available and where and if I can drink.. and if I can afford it haha.
