Boom.. Lost everything! (failed to load level)

Archive: 55 posts

Loaded my account,
my sackperson was reset..
and my moon was empty.
lost 2 levels I was working on...

I could get back my levels since I published them,
But I cant open the level I worked hardest on,
It wont open, It wont play, I cant edit it..
failed to load level.. Ive been working on it for three weeks now..
Backups are gone as well.

I always save my levels before exiting, and make sure nothing is loading/saving before I quit LBP.

So dont know what the hell happened,
but slowely LBP is going down the drain for me,
since this urinates me off.

It is not like I downloaded a savegame, because I know that will "erase" your my levels untill you reload your old savegame.

Edit:

Must be a huge case of the memory bug,
because I cant load any level atm, not the story ones,
not my custom ones and nothing online works atm.

no community objects, besides what I made myself.
about 20 switchboards and around 20 not so complex objects.
(Edit: atm my inventory is empty as well :| )
around 14 levels, 10 submitted, now three lost. deleted 4 from mylevel that where submitted to have more memory so I could at least continue the level design stuff. so thats around 9-10 that where on mylevel.

No photo's. no crappy community items, not even mgs4 package.
My pod is 100% empty, not even 1 sticker.
Atm my sack is clotheless since every time I get him dressed.. He loses everything the moment I reload LBP.

But that statement.. "Please quit the game"
Whoever wrote that needs some serious trout spanking!

It also happened to me.
Fortunately I didn't lost everything, ''only'' 10 hours of work and 5 aced levels and all aced levels of mgs pack...

You are not alone, however it sucks, and it p**s me off too...

Send email to MM:

Hello MM!

I actually send my portfolio to you people,

and am atm very active on the comunity..

but I now have something more important to discuss than getting a job..

Ive had the memory bug for a few weeks now,

but now all of a sudden it got 10 times worse..

and the warning with that bug is actually really making me angry.

It states:

Problem loading date, this may be fixed by cleaning your pod,

press ok to clean your pod, if you do not wish to clean your pod.. please quit the game.

Now that last sentence is actually the most stupid thing I have read in my 10 years of experience with games and their designs.

And the person that wrote it should be trout-smacked!

If everyone that gets this bug takes that advice.. nobody would eventually be playing lbp again.

My pod is empty, not even a sticker in there.

My sackperson keeps resetting so he cant wear any clothes.

My custom levels dissapeared, and when re-downloading them to my own moon they couldnt be played anymore,

All my work in progress was lost, and all levels but one that wherent finished are now lost.

All my inventory is gone, even custom made objects and such.

I dont have the MGS4 package, I dont have any community items, I dont have any photo's.

your bug just made me lose 6 weeks of work.

Also story levels cant be played, cant play online levels nothing.

It just states: failed to load.

I back up my save data onto a cheap Pen Drive every time I exit the game now, because I don't want to loose all my precious aced levels.2009-01-03 17:04:00

Same here,
btw if I do press the X button when that warning screen pops up my ps3 crashes, controller shuts down and I am forced to reset the ps3 with the on/off switch on the back.

I do have backup saves, and still have one on my pc, but its 5 levels outdated (custom ones) because I backed up my levels either on the moon (save as) and published most.

Also starting LBP takes quite a while, and stutters untill my char lands on the pod floor.

I thought it was my ps3, but my brother has been playing ratched and clank all day without any problems.

So..

!!

WARNING!!! save your account on a usb drive, it can happen to you!!
Do it now, because tomorrow might be 2 late!!!

I think its rather important!

Goodness, this sounds really, really terrible Luos. I know I sure would be frustrated if everything I had just went and corrupted itself. Serious level designers spend hours and hours doing their thing, and I know you are one of them. 2009-01-03 18:38:00

Hence warning all,
I wouldnt want this happening to someone else.
I can recreate the levels, no problem, probably even better as well...
But atm I cant do anything in LBP..

Hmm.. gonna create a new account, see what happens there.. be back l8er.

Unfortunately, I lost my save file a second time doing just that. An additional step is required to ensure your file is safe.

After you quit LBP, there is no way of knowing if your save file is intact. If you then back it up to a pen drive and it was corrupt, you've just destroyed your backup as well.

So, it's best to take the pen drive/ipod/whatever and copy it to a dated folder on a computer. I keep the last 10 or so on hand, just in case.

I didnt,
But who couldve guessed it would get this b0rked.
My brothers account seems to be intact, but loading a level can take up to 10 minutes... besides that it runs perfectly.

my account keeps crashing, my custom content changed into "unknown object" and when selected it gives the same "!" as if you didnt purchase an item.

If I try copying my levels they change into "unnamed level" and are empty, sometimes a level does load and I am able to play but it stutters like crap (around 5 fps).
Sometimes the most crashed custom level I have does load, but just when it opens ( I was like.. YES!!!!).. it crashes..
And I get that warning again...

Sure we all need backups,
but this is just redicilous.
hooraah for autoback's.. (hint towards MM).

gonna create a 3th account and fill it with custom crap and community items in the hope that the crash happens again.

My god I feel for you. I neglected to mention this in my thread about my broken level (got a Fail to load level message) but when I try to publish it, this is what I get. And like you said, it freezes up afterwards, no matter what I do, even if I try to just quit, it freezes anyway.

Send email to MM:

I'd love to know if they respond to you. I have sent an email as well outlining my problem (and funny enough, I also sent an email about the job offer!) and I was among the first to encounter a major glitch. Still no response, which is understandable given the holidays, but I am very much hoping they will respond. I did not write just for the heck of it!

Dude, can anyone tell me if there is a way I can put the files on my iPod? That's all I have in order to prevent this, no USB, nothing, just an iPod.

I am seriously afraid of turning on my PS3 to see if the 10-12 hours of work on my level that I think is really turning out good, is gone.

Someone please answer me by PMing or Visitor Message so I can get a notice...

And if I am able to put it on my iPod, which files would I need to put on it?

I use my ipod shuffle for that,
just plug it in.
select your lbp savefile from the games menu, and copy it.

Also, once you have backed it up, be very careful that you do not copy it in the wrong direction; i.e. copy the older file from iPod over the newer file on the PS3.2009-01-03 23:37:00

Like I wrote on your profile, it's a good thing we're all posting each of our experiences. Condesing all into one single thread would not be advantageous in this case!

I don't know if i missed this, but if you have definatly lost everything, deleting all LBP data on your account may get the game working fine again. That includes install data and save.2009-01-04 00:03:00

will post it here as well,
Last thing i did before going to bed and finding out what happened the day after..

x-nobody-x invited me (cool person), before I knew it I accepted it..
since I just openend the level to start editing I didnt think it could do any harm.. (dont know if it is the case) and since I had the level just backed up on my moon 2 times..

grr..

if I still had hair.. id be pulling it out.

I dunno if it helps or not.... but I always, always make a point to NOT be online with the PS3 while using the editor in LBP.

I notice that the editor can get a bit...... funky...... when the system is online.

For example, the problem that I like to call the "infinite rewind", where I hit rewind, it starts doing it, and then pow, there's the annoying little "accessing the Net" symbol at the bottom, and....... it'll just sit there like this. Only way for me to stop it is to yank the net cable out.

It's a little annoying to have to do that sorta thing, but I dont really wanna take any chances with my data for this.

isnt infinite,
it just takes time, I had that mostly with my legendary sack part 2.
Sometimes rewinding took me up to a few minutes.
But Ive also had it happen when I was offline.
but then again, an editor shouldnt friggin crash due to being connected to the internet period.

anyways,

I have been testing some stuff on a new account,
Didnt want to trash my brother's so I created a new one,
gone trough the tutorials and the first few levels untill I was able to create at least complex shapes.

I thought there where about 55 craters, but there are at least 100.
I created a complex level that maxed out the thermo.
saved as untill moon was full, and even renamed them from 1 to 100.

took me some time.. and since I have been angry since my level got crashed.. im quite frustrated and was like..

(Grrr.. I'll get you now mr bug.. Ill get you.. Here are some levels.. you feed on them dont you mr bug?.. well.. I will haunt you down mr bug!.. trust me.. mr bug!.. You will go down.. mr bug!.. eat my levels mr bug!!... eat!!.. hahaha!!.. eat mr bug!!..).

After 14 or so levels saved I got that funny "couldnt save user account" but I just continued.

(HAHA!! the bug couldnt resist.. I got you now mr bug.. gwuahaha *scratches head and screams like a munkey*)

After I was done, I went to my pod, waited untill the saving/loading icon dissapeared and quit lbp.
Rebooted lbp and noticed that 57 levels where gone.

(what an appetite mr bug has.. gnagnagna.. I will pursue!...mr bug!)

But now comes the freaky part!!!!

It was pure random.
It didnt delete the last 57 levels,
but pure random, 1,5,6,7,13 and so on.
And!! I didnt get the "couldnt save user account" message while it allready happened after 14 or so levels, and I still had at least 30 on my moon.
Also noticed that the last level I created was also gone.. I named it "Mr bug"...

Hmm.. mr bug.. You have had your meal and now you are on your way to another my level moon arent you?... mr bug?...

It also purely random deleted some custom complex shapes in my popit. not just 1,2,3 no again random.

to see what happened with my ubercrashed level I did everything in my power to make sure that the save would crash.
So deleted one level on the still half full moon, and created a new one, different name, shapes and stuff.
Accepted an invite after save,
accepted an invite while saving,
saved and immidiatly quit game,
saved and turned off ps3 trough controller,
saved and pulled out the ps3 cable,
Save and quickly load a level.

But nothing, made the level crash and I could load it, edit it, play it and publish it.

(well.. nothing besides pulling the plug... and it didnt kill you.. didnt it mr bug?...But why mr bug?...What are you doing in my level mr bug?.. are you hiding in there?.. you know I wont delete that level do you mr bug?.. you are smart mr bug??)

But then It came to my mind, that on my original account, most of my own created content had the same "!" as if with for instance the paintinator when you dont own the lbp mgs pack.
Might it be possible that I cant load the level because now the engine thinks I dont own my own parts?

Also, might I be able to re-open and play my levels if the bugs are fixed?

(will you always be hungry mr bug?... will you always haunt us.. mr bug?.. do we have to sacrifice a level every month to you mr bug?.. must we?... mr bug?..)

I think thats all I have discovered atm.

(creating a level filled from top to bottom with explosives, and attaching a proximity switch.. this surely must kill you mr bug!.. wont it mr bug?...)

(edit: even I get a little bit scared reading my mr bug comments)
(edit: if you see the level "mr bug" online by luos desruc 2.. its mine )

Fist of all, LOLLL. Nice side story with Mr. Bug there

Second that's mighty interesting... Could it be that so far it has seemed to be that it is just that it doesn't save new information, but that it actually is completely random and affects new levels randomly. The way you did it is the only one to prove this (and you seem to have done so) because if you are only working on one or 2 levels and they both revert or disapear, then you assume it's a bug that didn't allow you to save at all.

Or could it be that we are all experiencing different effects of a bug that is random at it's core??

(Care to comment Mr Bug?

*doesn't comment*

>_> **** you!)

EDIT:

I did get a little scared reading the bug comments but I laughted more than I cried in terror, so it's ok

I've had similar problems. First, about 6 months ago, almost everything i had got deleted. It was like i went back in time. I had my old clothes on, most of the levels on my moon weren't there, and i had just aced about 5 or 6 levels. Everything just disappeared. I saved ALL of my levels before exiting, and i waited until the little guy running in the bottom left corner went away before quitting the game.

I stopped playing the game for a while, out of frustration with the game and all the work i lost. Then, i started playing the game again. It was running well for a while. My cousin also told me that the exact same thing happened to him. Then i thought "What's going on?" Well he isn't as into it anymore. But, we were both just making a level yesterday. Then we stopped for a while and i was going to finish the level myself. I shut my PS3 off for about 2-3 hours, saved it and everything.

Then i get back on to finish this level (my best ever) and i go to load it and it immediately says "Failed to load level". So just thinking it was just messing up for no reason, I used the answer to all problems. Shut off the system and turn it back on, right? I come back and it still doesn't work. i try some other of my levels and they worked, the online levels work, and everything else is fine. Any suggestions for either of these problems? Really looking for help I'm desperate!

If everyone shared your attitude they'd have nothing to work with to get things fixed. Do you think they want their game to be bugged?

Arggg!!! I am soooooooooo annoyed. The same thing happened to me except rather than losing three weeks of work I lost three months of work! I havent got any mojor problems other than loosing one level that was my best and favourite and now I can never play it again! :'( I heard of this glitch I while back and backed my levels up on the server then THAT got rewinded to before I'd finished the level so I decided to delete it cos my profile couldn't be saved and now my level is GONE!!!! This is the second time it's happened and it's really putting me off lbp! I think if they fix the bug it'll fix the level because it fixed my corrupt profile on the last update so, fingers crossed...2009-10-25 09:15:00

I know it's not cool to receive such advice but...

You should publish your level (but locked) after EVERY SINGLE TIME you quit your moon or before you quit the game. It's sad that the user needs to take that precaution and I don't like it but LBP is the buggiest game of the generation so far, NEVER trust it.

I personally always do that + back-uping my save file on my PC after every patch or finished level. It has been useful a couple of times already.

I was gonna say something like that, we shouldn't be doing this in the first place! Games are meant to be fun not for you to stare in terror at the TV hoping your last save still shows up. MM should have fixed this maaaaany updates ago without releasing a bug infested update like 1.06. I don't know why new content is being released while many people still want these kinds of bugs fixed. Stop with the content and work on the important stuff which is actually needed to play the game! If you're not able to play the game then whats the point of content if you need the game itself to play it?

I totally agree this shouldn't happen and that we shouldn't have to do such things but it's better to be cautious than trust a software made by imperfect humans. It's all about "do you want to maybe lose your stuff or accept the reality of this day and age and be cautious". Just a little change of habits on our parts and voila, no more tears.

Reality is that since making games is a business, dev teams have some schedules, pressure and must make money. This means that a mere DLC costume will be priorised over a saving bug that can happens from time to time. It's the sad reality of the industry. If there really was a blocking up that would totally cause a walkthrough break or a major problem that would really be widespread, it would be fixed ASAP. Now the save bugs in here fall into important bugs but not major ones by the industry standards (that are very low.)

Sorry, I didn't make that tragic bit clear. I had one published locked but then I got the 'rewinded data' bug on that and it was taken back to before it even had a finish. I got the 'your profile is too large' note and, without knowing the 'my moon' level was corrupt I deleted the published one to get more profile space and then... :'(

Ok you mean you published your level but it did publish some older version?
Anyhow, published levels are NOT taking profile space. They are on Media Molecule's servers. Do not erase them thinking it will free you up some space, it will only free a publishing slot. (you have 20 in total).

im worried about this happening to me cos my save data reverts almost everytime, I think it takes the **** that they mess up some useful glitches then leave data problems alone. what patch are we on now? i wonder if on the list of patch changes they said we
.improved this
.improved that
.made the data porblems even worse.

a few of my online levels were more corrupted than the ones I had on my moon.
So saving online wasnt really an option as well.

If you publish them corrupted they will obviously be corrupted again once you download them.
