Ice Caverns of Nosdrgath

Archive: 10 posts


The Ice Caverns of Nosdrgath are a dangerous place. A burning, frozen place. Sure footing and quick reflexes might get you out alive... Best for 1 player. Lots of fast grappling hook action and a couple spots where you have to think to continue.

I've been thinking about this level since LBP1 but couldn't really do it until the material tweaker came along in LBP2. Finally published it about a year ago. Never got much play so I thought I'd try posting it here.

Glad to do a F4F on up to 6 platforming levels.

i played your lvl, this is my opinion:
I liked the graphics of the lvl, sometimes I didnt know where to go
I got stuck at the light ball in the water, I didnt know what to do, I figured to us it to switch layers, but after I jumped on the bounce pad I didnt know where to go,

overal:
good use of decoration and lighting
gameplay was fine, but sometimes frustrating

Looks nice, but some parts are very frustrating. Also, after the earthquake part i didn't know where to go and then i got stuck between some rocks so i stopped.

I would love to hear what parts you all found frustrating. Hopefully I can do something to fix that.

And as far as getting stuck under that rock, astounding! I will make sure to fix that too.

At this point I'm wondering if anyone will actually be able to complete the level!

You should make it clear what a player has to do.. Some of your puzzles are really clever, maybe a little too clever If you don't give players clues they'll wander around in the wrong places and they'll stop.

The parts that were frustrating.. hmm.. I died around 20 times at the part where you bounce up between two enormous fiery walls.

Also, in some parts of your level you die because there's a bounce pad and you don't know what's ahead. These bounce pads want to send you into a fiery death but you have to grab something with your grappling hook. You should use the camera tools to give players a look up ahead so they don't die the first time.

After the earthquake part i (and someone else too) couldn't figure out what to do anymore. Give us some clues in the level!

Ive tryed your level pal, but like others, just cant seem to get to the end. I had a play through, not really knowing what I was doing or where I was going but thats ok having an explore and finding things out. Then I came to an area where the there was a white round light thing to grab, managed to get to the shakey floor part but then just kept bouncing, swimming around and trying to take the white roller to places. I had another attempt after dinner and went right instead of left and came to the area I was stuck at before, missing out a fair bit that I had played before. Can you let me know what Im doing wrong or fix anything if it needs it. It seems a decent level, bit punishing at times and Id like to give proper feedback but feel I cant as couldnt finish the level. Let me know dude and Ill get back to it.
If you wouldnt mind trying my new level, Alpine Abandon, some feedback would be nice from a fellow chilly level maker.Cheers mate, link below.

I have followed some of Deurklink1's advice and republished the level with some modifications. I saw that it was trending on lbp.me and I ran home to get cracking!

I hope that the level is now easier to complete and less frustrating. I added some direction, reworked some of the cameras and added score bubbles.

Hope you find it much improved!

We played this level as 4 players, over a week ago. We did finish. I think 4 players made certain part even more difficult. I agree that parts were frustratingly hard, but some parts were very fun because they were hard. We died lots of times.
I think we played before you modified things.
Frustrating parts: -The first spawn gate by the water was hard to get out of. -Swimming through the water/ plasma. -The second swimming through water/ plasma spot was super hard to start with 4 players, because someone would die and pop out of the spawn gate which changed the cam view so the swimmers couldn't see where they were going. Move the gate back to avoid this.
Hard but fun:
-the grappling hook parts. Bounce swing let go at just the right time. Love it. -tricky jumps on glass.
Suggestions:
-Try some more dramatic lighting. -I would change the plasma into spikes or something. The plasma was hard to look at and I don't think it fit in your theme. -don't make the level too easy.

Hi mate. I retryed your level but still couldnt finish it. I seen you had added some new parts but I seemed to have a bit of lag. I must be missing something as others have finished but I cant. I get to the bounce pad floating, bounce up and grab the white roller, take it down and across to the left, bounce up then the floor shakes, some parts fall away then thats it, stuck and no where to go.
