Is LBP2 becoming more unstable?

Archive: 32 posts

I don't know if it's just my imagination, but LBP2 seems to have become increasingly unstable over the last few updates. I feel so worried about profile corruption at the moment, I'm backing up every 5 seconds. In the last few weeks I've had...

An "unknown error" which affected my profile and meant I couldn't save my creations any more

Friends getting trapped in the replay/continue menu after playing a level with me.

Complexity warnings and parts of my levels turning invisible much more frequently than ever before

Notifications of "searching for suitable players to join" everytime I play a level alone

General online instability getting worse, with more lag, disconnects, etc than ever before

And I've just seen somebody else say that the EULA screen appeared while they were playing and now they are stuck there.

So, am I just paranoid or is LBP2 slowly disintegrating?

I had the corrupt profile rear its ugly head literally the first time I started the game after the update. entire profile and several levels, gone. Two or three times after that the game started up with the EULA, level links failing very often even with no other people with me, more common system crashing, extreme frame rate drops in spots where they never were before.

We are indeed taking on water.

Yes, specification, the last update seemed to make things really laggy, I get tons of random requests to join me - even though I'm haven't even looked at community levels, I've had disconnects and some really strange occurrences trying to join people.

But the biggest issue seems to be a noticeable is the lag.

I see it too.

That notification is just part of the new update ,nothing to worry about, I hope. It's supposed to come up when your looking to join someone, but just think of it as "they" haven't made it so it only comes up when you want to join someone. So in a way, that's supposed to happen, if it makes you feel any better.

I experience the whole issue of always having that pesky notice that the game is searching for suitable players and more players trying to join more often (but didn't they make the dve in feature more accesible or something), as well as more multiplayer lag. I haven't seen anything particularly terrible though.
As for backing up your profile Lbphart, to get it on your system use the start menu in your pod. It's somewhere in there. Once it's on my system, I usualy copy it to a flash drive.

It's not getting worse in my opinion; it's just the update.2012-04-25 06:57:00

Funny thing is people say Skyrim is a buggy game, yet I've experienced more bugs from LBP in the last week than I've seen in Skyrim over the last 3 months. At least Skyrim's patches fix stuff without breaking other stuff, which is more than can be said for LBP recently. Don't get me wrong...I love LBP like a brother...but this **** is starting to put me off playing/creating.2012-04-25 09:14:00

In some ways, yes. In others, no.

There are way less glitches in LBP, but how bad they are is much worse than previously. But, that's because of new features. Like Atract-O-Gel, and the removal of Booing levels. So, these bugs will eventually get patched, but until then, back up your Profile before doing crazy glitches, and just before quitting LBP, and your Profile(s) should be safe.

Sound lags like hell, and not only sounds, sometimes the game freezes for 1-5 minutes before I can play again... I have to say, that mother that thought that LBP could damage your PS3 might be right... 2012-04-25 18:26:00

I do agree that more glitches have entered the fray in the past few months, but I sure as heck hope that it isn't deteriorating in quality. Most of the glitches listed haven't even happened to me, but I can't say that they won't. I'm surprised, yet I'm not. I mean, it IS a creative game, so I wouldn't expect it to hold off the bugs perfectly, but Mm has really put a lot of work into it, so I doubt they'd just let it collapse like that. I hope they'll fix it. Lol, I said hope alot.2012-04-25 20:07:00

MY GOD!

I actually remember when we first really experienced the crippling lag. I was playing with miles_5_wilson and vortexninja and it was really laggy. Many levels we played were borderline unplayable. vortexninja said that miles_5_wilson had a bad connection and he was causing all this lag. miles_5_wilson said, "oh, but it is YOU who is causing the lag!" Eventually vortexninja kicked miles_5_wilson and, since there was still lag, thought it was me who had the bad connection and kicked me. It was only later that we realized that it was the fault of the patch. miles_5_wilson almost quit because of this patch. There was a moment where he was really not playing LBP2 anymore, but he started again. The glitches, crashing, lag, and general erraticness...

This needs to be fixed.

What really bugs(heh punny) me about this is that theres so many glitches and bugs in the game, and yet they have the time to remove boos and give the ability to take away comments and reviews. Like, how about you fix the stuff everyone wants you to fix, instead of some new random thing no one complains about. I dont know which is worse, MM with LBP, screwing the game up and finally having a big update that "fixes" one "problem" no one asked for and causing seventeen more, or maxis was with spore, which was one of the most innovative games ever, and ruined it before release and then totally abandoned it. With what MM is doing, Id rather be abandoned
This is why Ive given up on LBP2 and focused on LBP vita, hoping that tarsier will handle things better.

My PS3 froze as someone signed off PSN while I was in their pod. It normally lags and flips out when it does that, but it's never froze the actual PS3 before :/2012-05-05 10:48:00

The "recent changes made to your profile could not be saved due to an unknown error" bug has happened to me twice in recent weeks.
When I enter create mode just after that message, and then try to return to the pod, I get a message saying

"Problem loading data. try cleaning your pod. Press X to clear the pod etc. "

even though my pod was already cleared and X won't respond so I have to quit to the XMB, play again and import a recent profile back-up. But of course that doesn't prevent the "unknown error" from returning again.

Also, some people's planets give me lag so heavy that it gives me the impression that the PS3 has frozen even though it actually hasn't. And on some people's planets, levels dont show up at all. And then other planet's cause the pod menus to become completely fudged up, giving me no choice but to quit to the XMB. I have even recorded footage of the menus becoming messed up using my PSP's go-cam but I have no idea how to share or upload the footage.

Anyway, The "unknown error" is the worst thing that has happened during this update (I don't remember it happening during 1.11). Any bug that prevents a game from being saved is major problem for a game to have and I think it should be taken a bit more seriously than it is at the moment. I've become less motivated to create knowing that the profile error could rear it's ugly head again at any time.

Working on a costume last night when I suddenly get signed out of PSN for no apparent reason. After this, create mode was stuck in the zoomed in view you see when changing outfits and I had to return to my pod to fix it. Yet another bug which I've never seen happen before.

Reading through all your posts, it seems that incidents of unstable behaviour are definitely on the rise in LBP2. First few patches improved the game overall while introducing a few relatively minor bugs, but the more recent patches seem to have broken more than they fixed. I wonder if any of these recent issues can even be patched now without breaking the game even further.

Yeah I've had my share of problems similar to what's already been posted and I don't know what's going on with the magic mouthes.2012-05-09 03:33:00

I've gotten used to the new update by now, like taking a picture after playing a level to stop being stuck in the rate screen. There has been quite a few freezes for me recently, but not TOO many. I'm more mad about all the "WE NED THE BOO" level's made by trolls that boo good levels. :/2012-05-10 02:41:00

Wait! There's something wrong with the magic mouths?

For me there are problems with both the speech and the subtitles. Recorded speech sort of randomly drops out and so do the subtitles, although enabling subtitles in the menu seems to make them work 100% of the time.

Oh, and now my reviews are always ruined because they get cut off halfway through. MM STOP RUINING THIS GAME!!!

I didn't play online for a while, but when I finally did I was amazed at how smooth it seemed. Now it really lags, sometimes making it unplayable. It's also hard to find any strangers to play with, they either deny me straight away or kick me within seconds of entering. It's a shame really, I don't usually like online gaming but this is actually fun.

I'm noticing other bugs here and there; 'Dive In' is unstable, sometimes remaining on screen for ages, sometimes there are strange shadows and lighting issues in create mode which cause me to have to restart the game. Also had a few complete game freezes.

Stangely I've had the same experience with Skyrim, a game which many people consider to be an unplayable bug-fest. I have a 12mb save file with over 200 hours of gameplay, yet apart from seeing a mammoth fall from the sky and a khaljit merchant swimming through the air I've had no bugs or glitches, and incidences of lag/freezing have been so rare as to be virtually non-existent. Perhaps karma decided to ruin my LBP experience just to balance out the good luck I've had with Skyrim.

Had an interesting bug with the first Toy Story levels - the blocks you fire using the creatornator had a white edge, rather than pink, and it wouldn't collect any prize bubbles. Tried restarting the level but that didn't work, so I had to exit the whole game and boot it up again.2012-05-16 07:22:00

I was playing with a friend last night who had been updating an lbp1 level and giving it a makeover with lbp2 logic. She said that one day the level just became unplayable and started to crash the PS3 anytime she tried to load it. I asked her to show me and sure enough it crashed my PS3 just like she said.

Well after hard resetting I received a very disturbing message stating "The file system of the hard disk may be corrupted. The system will restart, check the file system and restore it if it is corrupted". I have NEVER seen anything like this before on the many occasions that I have had to hard reset my PS3 over the years. Quite frankly it scared the heck out of me.

I got exactly the same thing a few days ago, had cold sweats waiting for it to check my files.

The scan only took a few minutes though so I'm guessing everything's ok, since it said it would take a few hours if anything was amiss.

This happens whenever your PS3 freezes. I used to use the browser on occasion, and freezing was a common problem for me. This scan was introduced in one of the last PS3 updates. It made me crap my pants at first.2012-05-16 11:05:00

I started to get this message after the firmware update that added the stupid warning message every time you boot up your PS3. My PS3 freezes fairly often when I'd play BF2, play with a friend that spent his life playing with glitches LBP2, or attempt to use the internet browser back when it was pretty much unusable before they updated it. I think you should probably expect to see this message from now on when you boot up your PS3 after it freezes.
