LittleBigOlympics

As you may know, the summer Olympics are being held this year. In spirit of this, I have hatched the idea to run an Olympics in LBP. As of now, I'm thinking about doing 5 events:

•100-Meter Dash
•100-Meter Hurdles
•Long Jump
•Shot-Put
•100-Meter Swim

If you have any other ideas for events, please post them here. Also, I am contacting MM about possibly creating special "secret" LittleBigOlympics pins for the winners, as well as an announcement in the LBP News. The winners of the events would be determined by the scores they receive in each event's individual level. So, who all would be interested in participating?

If I'm interested depends on how the Olympic Events would work, and how they would be judged.2012-04-23 10:49:00

The winners would be determined by the scores they receive in the event. For instance, in the 100-meter hurdles, you'd start at a race gate and run/jump as fast as you can to the end gate. You'd then step on the scoreboard to submit you score. The long jump and shot-put will be tricky, but I'm working on the logic right now.2012-04-24 00:27:00

I am pleased to announce I have perfectly-working long-jump system. It accurately measures and scores not only how far you jump, but also your vertical velocity.

Oh, and two more things:
?All events will be strictly singleplayer. You'll still be able to play the level with multiple people to practice and such, but ONLY singleplayer scores will be used to determine the winners in each event.
?I have decided on a 5th event - the 100-Meter Swim.

I'm not so sure about the 100 metre dash, but everything else would be really cool. Simple, too.
I'd love to enter this. Sounds good for some shiggles.

100 metre dash wouldn't work thanks to Sackthings run always being the same speed, and I don't believe jumping makes him go any faster.
Hurdles would be great if they varied in size, and Sackthing lost points for knocking them over.

I agree with Ostler.

Sports that I think would not work very well, or would be REALLY boring:
?100-Meter Dash - All Sackboys run at the same speed, so it would not work at all.
?Long Jump - All Sackboys run/jump at the same speed, it's just a matter of who jumps the latest, making it almost all luck and fast reflexes, which isn't fun, challenging, or competetive.
?100-Meter Swim - All Sackboys swim at the same speed.

That leaves you with 2 events. So, try coming up with something new that would only work in LBP, like in the Super Smash Bros. Olympics, where you'd get two people to deflect Lasers at each-other using Shields timed just right, that uses features in that game to make a hard thing to do that requires practice, patience, and skill. Come up with something like that(But in LBP, using LBP Features), and you'll have a new event, then you'll just need another 2 and you'll have the same number as originally planned. Otherwise, you'll have quite a short LBP Olympics.

But, if you REALLY want to stick to the original plan, don't let me stop you.

I'm going to publish the Long Jump and 100-Meter Betas tomorrow to show how they'd work. For the long jump, you're in a sackbot, and the sackbot (in a sequence) will vary in running speed. This makes it a matter of timing to try to jump while you're at your fastest and while you're closest to the edge. My very precise scoring system will give a good variance in scores. For the 100 Meters, you run as fast as you can while you try jump/not jump to obtain spinning Olympic rings. The 100-Meter Swim will have the same basic idea.2012-04-25 05:43:00

Thanks for clearing that up. Although, I doubt I'll enter. Good luck with it, though. 2012-04-25 09:36:00

Well, I've been waiting to seal a deal for the pins. Anyone else have ideas for a prize I could give away? Oh btw, the betas are now on LBOlympics' account: http://lbp.me/u/LBOlympics2012-05-11 06:55:00
