played the lvl

the visuals were bad,
there werent much decorarions, or stickers, in a cave I dont expect to see lightbulbs in the wall that give one line of light, it was sometimes a bit dark to see

the gameplay was fine
some puzzles, some swinging, but I got stuck at the cogs, I didnt know what to do, I grabbed the sponge but nothing happend and jumped over the sponge but got stuck at the other cog. so I stopped

Not bad for a first PS3 level!
Some things you can improve on:
- Play a sound whenever a player presses a button or pulls a switch. Then, for a short while, point the camera towards the thing that got put in motion if it's outside the screen. No-one likes a pressing a switch without knowing what it does
- Some parts were really dark. The part where you had to grab the cogwheel for example was really hard on my television. I actually had to sit closer to see everything.
- If you want a message to display only once, wire a player sensor to a counter that counts to a maximum of 1, then wire that counter to a magic mouth with its input action set to activate once. Might come in handy sometimes
- The camera needs work in some places. Always make it clear for the player where to go. Working on the camera is something i really hate in big levels xD

Anyway, I liked your level, if you want to make it even better these things could improve it just a little bit more

A nice, long, relaxed level with some fun obstacles and simple puzzles. For a debut level, it was very nice to look at. I disagree with Maxkszie that it was bad looking because it had no decorations.. First you stated it's your first level, and second it's not ugly whatsoever. You said in the level description that it was an abandoned place, so it was not surprising that there wasn't a bagillion flowers growing everywhere, etc. I do agree it was bit dark in places, but thats an easy fix. Just add a few lights in there, especially the cog area as it is hard to see at times. O ther than that, maybe just kick up the excitement factor a tad in your next endeavor, but you're off to a great start mate.2012-04-27 20:52:00

Cheers for playing my level mate, well attempting it as it seemed a bit of a challenge for you. The level is an abandoned place so its going to be a bit barron, with lights left on and things left to rot. Its not majorly full of logic, but I thought the visuals werent to bad and at least orginal! After reading your review and you saying you couldnt finish it surprised me as your level I found a challenge but managed to finish it so I could give a full review. Maybe ya need a bit more practice, lol. Cheers though for the feedback.

Cheers pal for the play, feedback and advice, thats the sort of thing im after. I know what you mean with the switches, levels and camera thing just had problems attempting them. I will take it on board and try and adjust things or put them into practice. Sorry about the darkness as a few have said but it seemed ok on my TV, maybe brightness turned up to much. Thanks again though dude for ya time.

Cheers KK for the feedback glad you played it and glad I finally made a level after all your nice ear bending. I will try and make a new level a bit more thrilling with a bit more than just sponge on a string. Cheers though dude, means a lot.

Hi Jet,
just played your level so here's some feedback

I agree the visuals are ok - not at all bad, i liked the combination of snow and rock. I've seen much worse - plus as its you first level its more important to get the gamplay right.

The platforming was fine - i agree with kaiju that it could use more excitement - but from your comment you seem to be on this. Big drops, fast jumps, death, exact movements, timings etc etc

I thought the puzzles were a little too straight forward and could use development. if the focus is on platforming then maybe simple is ok but if you would like to have some thinking bits then its good to make them harder. you can have multiple parts, combinations of platforming and puzzles, doing things in a certain order, environment puzzles where you have to get something tricky or hidden...think outside the box.

Music - i love the 'cries in the wind' track - i used in my first level - but it went on for ages and i was sick of it after a while. When the music did change it was to that track i hate After my 1st level someone said to me to look for music people have made on LBP - good advice!

The main thing is that nothing broke, i got to the finish, the gameplay was straightforward but not frustrating - this a great acheivemen for ur first level - well done mate - look forward to your next one!

(if you ever need help on puzzles let me know - i love em!)

I know its not F4F but, if you've not already, if you fancy playing my 'pain in the membrane' level that would cool

Finally got back to my queue here since you were nice enough to review my level.

I think our levels have a lot in common. There were a few times that I laughed about some of the stuff with the winches.

I enjoyed playing the level but found the camera maddening. Sometimes it is best to just let the game camera frame the action or else it gets annoying.

The level has a lot of visual appeal, and I heard others complaining about it being dark but I didn't experience that. There were a few parts that seemed redundant but the pacing was pretty good overall and it never felt like a drag to play it.

I gave it a like.

I'm a sucker for anything with snow and a chilled atmosphere so i gave it a go taking notes as I went along. The first thing is "Jet Artois Presents", Its very blurry and is not doing your level favors in terms of presentation so I'd maybe make the text out of material to make it more sharp and less distracting to the eye. I like the robin its a nice little touch, the bubble placement looks a little lazy, maybe if they were in a pyramid or something similar they would look nicer. The choice of material works well and the drip - drip works nicely. The white material you grab and have to bring it up on the bounce pad broke so I couldn't go any further (Replay) ..try again. It worked the 2nd time around, maybe put a tweaker on it so it can't break or else have it emit another if it breaks again. I liked the visuals a lot in the old run down (lodge?) area, the camera angles also added a nice bit of atmosphere to it. the part with the cogs looks great and I'm surprised there was no lag from all the bubbles up that way. All in all I really enjoyed it - well done. = )2012-05-12 15:10:00

Cheers pal for the feedback. I know what you mean with the camera at times, it did my head in sometimes and I put it there! Thanks though pal for the play through and I have your level Q'ed up again, determined to get to the end this time, cheers matey.

Cheers for the feedback. Yes the text at the start is a bit blurry but it was a bit of a last minute thing, so yes it could of been done better. Ive seen some folk put there name on the level and how they do that even amazes me! On the parts that you said broke, then im sorry thats a shame it broke it up for. Thanks though for not giving up and trying again, that means a lot as a few have. Thanks mate though for the feedback and the play, its taken on board.

Cheers mate, let me know what you think. I really need to edit it really as a fair few people are having problems at the cog section. Good luck.
