Grand Theft Auto IV

Archive: 33 posts

I searched and I searched but could not find a thread on the discussion of GTAIV, which did surprise me a little considering, to what I thought was an awesome game.

Just started getting into multiplayer online with it, it is really fun, however I do prefer free mode, friendly fire off, and wreaking havoc in the airport with a bunch of friends, duking it out with the police.

Anyway this can be a thread for discussing it, if there is not already one, but I could not find it, just a few threads discussing trophies, tournaments etc.

So... Yeh..

Sidenote: I have the PS3 version

Also a nice GTAIV picture I found on DeviantArt (NOT BY ME)

I've got the 360 version of this game, and I must say I really enjoy it. I still play it every couple of days with my friends. One of our favorite things to do is to set weapons to "powerful", turn off friendly fire, and set the spawn area to Happiness Island. We accumulate 4, 5, then 6 stars and duke it out with the helicopters and the police officers that actually survive the fall. It's really fun.2009-01-03 09:24:00

Its great doing things like that I just LOVE the fact you can get police after you online, it's awesome.

Its also fun turning friendly fire off and being hit by RPG's, I love watching the Euphoria engine at work ^^

The only complaint I have about the Euphoria engine is it's a bit slow. Falls take longer than they should; people seem too "feathery". Other than that, it's a really fun engine. I can still remember the first time I pushed a pedestrian down a flight of stairs.

That sounded evil.

It is a bit fiendish but I do enjoy watching to see 'how' they fall

Also multiplayer + friendly fire off + car + speed + other player + contact = Fun!

Yeah I have the game, I only got into it again recently partly I guess due to Trophies as I do like to be rewarded (even though the rewards are useless) for playing the game. But partly because after playing a few other games such as Prince of Persia and Fallout 3, I've started to appreciate how many things GTA IV does and does very well. Not that PoP and F3 are bad but just PoP wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be and F3 just doesn't appeal to me as much as Oblivion did.

Anyway, I'm not that far in, only and hour or two, still in the first safe house and I really am enjoying it, I just hope I don't tire of it as quickly as I did on my first try, I got to the second safehouse and just stopped caring...

Haven't really tried online yet, not a big online gamer but I saw my nephew playing it online and it looks fun enough.

The game impressed me thoroughly, it has a ridiculous amount of quality variety. My main complaint is the shooting feels a little sluggish for some reason.2009-01-03 16:38:00

I like GTA4, but somehow I just got stuck at ~45% and didn't feel like continuing. I think I still prefer GTA SA for just free roaming, although the free mode in GTA4 online is just awesome.2009-01-04 11:25:00

GTA IV is just the best GTA to date, I mean, the stuff you can do...
and **** those that said there is a small lifespan.
WRONG, those people didn't play multiplayer yet.

And I just love to do "matrix" with me and my friend.
RPG only, FF off and no cops.
Then we blow eachother on buildings, higher and higher

There's a ridiculous amount of stuff to do, the AI can react to so much in so many different ways. Just be sociopathic :o2009-01-04 17:57:00

Yeah a good game, but I was not as happy with this one as San Andreas, I just don't think it was GREAT for a new generation game. Graphics were amazing but I was not completly happy with the game.2009-01-05 15:15:00

Hey, resurrecting a thread again but well no point in creating a new one when this one is already here.

So anyway, does anyone find this game really difficult? Some of the missions take me about 6 or 7 tries to finish :O. Like the one where you go after the drug dealer for Francis McReary in a block of flats, I died a whole load of times trying to beat that mission. Anyone else find the game difficult or do I just suck?

Hmmm, are you using the wall covering system? I actually find the game pretty easy. The best thing to do is use the system, lock on and then when you shoot just push up sightly to get the headshot in. Then usually you get quick one shot kills and save more ammo. After a while of getting used to it you'll find you'll be blasting your way through the missions Well, the simple run and gun ones.

I picked this game up again the other day though. Still massive fun.

Yeah I'm using the cover system but sometimes the odds become overwhelming. Like that mission you go through the block of flats killing all the henchmen as you go, then you kill the drug dealer and then cops raid the place and you have to fight your way out. I dunno I just seem to die a lot...

I just got back into, and i have had to start again, there are a few parts i find tricky, for example killing Faustin, i spent ages trying to get through the club you are in without losing to much health because there is no cover, and also if you dont move fast enough he gets away, you have to find a good compromise between taking cover and running. Or use a shotgun....2009-04-10 16:57:00

Yeah but when you don't care about the multiplayer you're ****ed. (high five!)

There is LESS stuff you can do in the single player THAN IN GTA3. Otherwise the city was freaking beautiful though. I enjoyed it but I felt my single player mode was lacking in favor of taking time for develloping a multi.

Oh wait, that's exactly what happened...

This is so fun to play on the PC, me and my friend got a mod that allows us to play with some game settings, such as gravity, and cops. We usually turn off gravity, turn on ragdoll mode (BEST MOD EVER!) and FLY, that's right, we fly! Its pretty sweet zooming around, hitting people in the head, then watching them float off into the sunset

Actually, I recorded a movie, and edited it with the in-game video-editor! You can check out our movies here;

and here for part deus;

(The second one is a bit slow at the start, and isn't as good as the first, but some parts are still hilarious!)

Haha, this game rules!
My favorite thing in multyplayer mode is go either in free mode or in any team game, grab a car and go near a teammate, honk the horn as if inviting them to get in and just take off before the can get in XD
I usually stop a bit ahead as they may think it was an accident and try to get in again and yet again i wait for them to get close enpough and step on it!
Man, its a blast doing that, they usually start shooting at me after i stop and go a coiuple of times tho

There was a particular mission I had a hell o?f a time completing for Jimmy Pegorino where he goes to have a sit down with the rival family, Angelotti?s I think. I never managed to get to him in time and he kept dying on me.2009-04-20 03:40:00

Might buy it again for pc to use the video editor, looks great.

Also pillaysteven, enemies always get stunned once shot so when faced with multiple opponents just spray all of them then pick them off while they're recoiling.

I started playing this a while ago.
I rushed through the main story, and beat it in under 30 hours. I still enjoyed it though
I wish Niko had a happy ending, i let kate die.
Now im just working towards 100% and free roaming and such. I bought the Lost And Darned
I dont plan on playing it until i get 100% in the main game.
So yah its fun.
pigeons are hard to do, but somewhat entertaining.
Anyone else got 100%?
