Grabby Gorge (Platformer)

Archive: 22 posts

Hey everyone, This is my latest platformer. Pretty simple gameplay focused on grab-type obstacles. I hope you all enjoy.

It just looks awsome, and it plays just as great.

This is INCREDIBLE!
Simply stunning
I had to unsticker the little houses decos in the background because I thought they were stickers
And the water was OMG!
You deserve everything you achieved so far in LBP and possibly more!
You're a hell of a creator!

Alley this is one of my favorite levels. You nailed it! The background was just unbelievable! I loved the way you made those 3D waterfalls. And the different mechanisms throughout the level were great! Make more of these!

Try out my new redone "Cling to Life (Survival)" It's been polished and redone for ..fun... wow that sounded lame.

Very nice, well-planned, and fun. You really excel in showing off the more physics-based elements while still keeping them more-or-less relevant to the rest of the adventure. My forthright criticism would probably be the aesthetics in the heart of the level. The beginning looked great, and the caverns looked nice, but the time between when behemoth wooden walls of disparate color filled my vision, my eyeballs were less-than-pleased. Yet, you must continue your foray into level creation, because I must say, I did have a good time. :]2012-04-22 20:15:00

I seriously stopped at the beginning of this level and simply said. "Oh my goodness this level is GORGEOUS." This is by far the best use of extra layer detail I have ever seen in a level. Its not simply just extra layers, its practically the background, and its beautiful.

I don't understand. How could such a level exist? Why is it so beautiful. How is it so beautiful. Sir, what is this spell you have cast on me to leave me so dumbstruck by a level.

But seriously, this level is amazing. Visual wise and gameplay wise. You get a yay and a heart from me.

@ Piggabling Thanks for the constuctive criticism. I have a sliver of thermo left maybe I'll try to add some color.

Thanks you guys. I'm glad you all enjoyed it so much.

I had a similar reaction as DreJ. Unbelievable AC, just unbelievable. Most impressive. The visuals were drool inducing amazing and I was blown away with what you did with the water effects. The gameplay was some of the best that I've encountered. You have, once again, outdown yourself. Thank you for the amazing experience and I will definitely be returning to this awesome level of yours. Thank you.2012-04-23 01:13:00

I played this over the weekend and unfortunately couldn't finish it :/

The 2nd last pic you have up was the part I couldn't go past. There were spikes just above that pic, up to the right which were unglued and upside down, so I guess something wasn't right there. The wheel above didn't move much (I've a feeling it was supposed to be rotating or at least easier to move), even grabbing the second object low to get a nice vault up and attempting to grab the wheel up top in just the right spot, you could only turn it 20-25 degrees before the spike came around to kill you. Also the back layer visible in that pic you could drop into and become stuck because you can't get out. And up right you could activate a checkpoint which sets you back a bit.

Not going to leave this post a negative nelly tho!! Despite the above (I played it 2 hrs after you put a comment on it saying you fixed a bounce pad issue - I've a feeling that publish may have broke something else which you have likely since fixed). The level was beautifully decorated, the mix of old mats and new decos went so well together. The use of extra layers achieved a stunning effect. The obs were so clever, it's really wonderful after playing so many levels to see there's still new ways to do things. And even with a good many creators out there which put out great work, only a handful create genuinely jaw dropping content which you can feel every last detail was examined and tweaked to death, every obs agonised over, every layer switch deliberate and meaningful. You are such a creator.

I'll revisit, seeing a still image of that water just won't do

(decided to go play it now, just paused it coz I'm so shocked at how different that area I described looks, I think it was an emit/destroy gone wrong? There was no row of grab able blocks (or anything in that layer for that matter!) to swing over to the way forward to the left, I was trying to vault up to the wheel above which I can now see was an earlier obs. Ok, so it was all kinds of broken... I'll play on...!)

Yep! No problem! Now, I may have been a little bit harsh in deriding that portion of the level, because the rest was indeed beautiful. Maybe it was just one little scene that didn't appear right to me or a little unbecoming. I've never been an avid fan of the juxtaposition of those two wood types. I think I'm just being cantankerous...

Great stuff there buddy. Glad some checkpoints were infinite lives as I would of been starting again a few times, but think thats just me. It looks great pal, a very nice place to spend some time. Music fitted it great too. Ive published Alpine Abandon, be nice if you could give some feedback on that if you get a chance to play it, had a mighty two plays at mo! Great level there though pal.2012-04-24 14:01:00

Another fantastic platformer, Alley_Cat. The environment looks brilliant all thanks to unique layer glitch, nicely polished materials, and great effects. The platforming gameplay is beyond fun, too. It's all thanks to many of the grabbable obstacles, including the crushers at the start and the upside-down stair-like green and red sponges in the cave. Incredible job creating this exhilarating level.

Hey guys glad you enjoyed the level so much. I'm kinda surprised with how well this one was recieved. I guess it just boils down to it being fun. And to think I made a whole level because of one spring dlc pack decoration. Wow.2012-04-26 02:05:00

I could say this was simply amazing, but others have come and already expressed much of what I felt about this. The backgroud, the gameplay, all great. You mentioned this to be a LBP style level. I definitely got that kind of feeling, especially with the heavy grab pad use. But you expanded it far beyond those simple boundaries. Bravo.2012-04-26 02:21:00

I don't even have a PS3, only the PSP version of the game, but I was bored today and watched the video of this level and felt the need to mention how this level is simply stunning and uses extra foreground/background layers better than any platformer I've ever seen.2012-05-05 20:55:00
