Complex Speech Bubble Problem

Archive: 11 posts

I'm using the community object that allows eight speech bubbles to flow automatically. However, only four of the speech bubbles are working properly. All seven pop up (as in they have the little speech bubble sign underneath the one with the text), but quickly three of them close as the first speech bubble is being read.

I have the range of all of them large enough so the player is in all of their zones. They're not too far apart either. The second one is the only one that is a little far away, but the others are just a few yards away. What am I overlooking?

I suggest just making your own. Community objects are too...not editable.2009-01-03 07:55:00

I don't think it's a problem with the object. I made my own makeshift one, and the speech bubbles that are a bit far away (a screen over) pop up, but quickly disappear.2009-01-03 08:01:00

just evenly space your magic mouths apart, so that they have enough room to go in the right order, and it just solves a bunch of problems trust me.

Cheers!

Mmm. How do I do it if I want the speech bubble to trigger and show a faraway area or person while the text is shown?

That's very simple:
Set the mouth in the area you want to be shown, and connect it with a player-sensor that will activate it (also if it is faaaaaar awaaaaay...)
Dont forget to set the (how can I say it in English... hmmm...) film-vision, movie-shot?
(---Sorry but I'm Italian and I don't know how this function is called in the ENG version of the game--- :-( )

I have found this problem occurs due to how your cutscenes are positioned. In general, it is best to have the cutscenes zoomed out. Everytime I had a close up in a cutscene this usually happened. I changed the camera angle the problem was usually solved. Hope that helps.2009-01-03 13:57:00

Yes, sir. I had that part down pat, but then the problem in the original post came up. ;_;

No worries. Your English is adequate!

I've found Maros' talking tool often shuts down mouths too early whenever I use it. I suspect it's because I have far, far more than 8 mouths in a relatively small space.

I try and use the inbuilt sensors on the mouths to trigger in an order. I find this stops the mouths closing too early.

I'm building the next "How to" series about magic mouths and will detail more about this when it's published. The room I am working on right now has many magic mouths and a talking tool, and it's cutting out half the dialogue. I'll work out how to fix it eventually, but for the record, the tool does not always work and cuts out dialogue too early for me too often for me to use it regularily.
