Da Vinci's dojo

Archive: 13 posts

hi,

this is my first real lvl, it has a bit of a Da Vinci's hideout style, its a platformer, including attract-o-gel. you can race after completing the lvl once.
the difficulty is MED-HARD, it starts easy but at the end there are some hard parts.

Wow this level certainly is hard at some points. I was able to finish it though What i loved most about your level was the creatinator that spawned exploding and grabbing sackbots. There was also some great usage of attract-o-gel.
What i disliked most were some puzzles that were just frustrating. One of the first bounce pad puzzles for example is really hard to get just right. I ended up trying it twenty times before i could advance. There was also a place where you have to bounce and flip a switch, which is also very tricky to achieve.
Anyway levels like these sure have potential, so keep it up.

with the switch you have jump up and then swing the switch aside and then release it and 1 player trying it is also recommanded, Im thinking of increasing the heigt of the bouncepad with 0.1, but not sure yet.2012-04-20 10:47:00

I really enjoyed playing this. It's impressive for a first level - you have some clever and fun gameplay mechanics in there. There's plenty of variety in the different challenges and I think you got the difficulty pretty much spot on most of the time.

The area to work on perhaps would be the visuals. There's nothing wrong with simplicity but a little more polish/interest in that department would take the whole level up a notch.

Anyway, great start and I look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

F4F, shall we?

Okay, opening up the level, I'm in. Kind of a dull entrance if you ask me.. Some music to set the mood would be nice. Oh, after the first little switch pulling thingy, your name popped up and music started .. That was cool. Oh wow, I love these tube thingies.. very original. Okay, after a few tries I made it through the tube thingies... A checkpoint would've been nice to see though. Oh, the attracto lead me to one, that's okay I guess.. The little bouncepad section was neat. The next was a little difficult because I kept launching into the switch, which sent me in a different direction. I made it through though. Everything else is neat and fun up until the switch you have to swing aside. I think that was a little tough and a little uneccessary, but that's just me. Everything else was fun.

Overall: 8.5/10

Scenery was dull, but wasn't hard to look at.
Gameplay was tough, but wasn't too tough.

Please check out my level, Rundown. It is 1 player only. Here is the LBP.me Link: http://lbp.me/v/-sd0sg

Well, I think it's just a question of having more interesting materials - perhaps using some more contrasting colour in there somewhere. Just as an example (as I'm not very good at explaining) here's a level (Wackania by Acanimate) which uses darker materials like you did but has some slightly lighter, warmer shades of brown and some stone effect to contrast with it - nothing very fancy but it has style. The orange writing and arrows were a nice highlight against the brown too. Maybe you could experiment with mixing and matching some colours/materials and see what combinations you like.

Let me start off by saying I usually hate levels with Attract-O-Gel. (They never seem to work well). However, this level used to Attract-O-Gel rather well and in a very fun way! Most of the level was alot of fun, with quite a few clever little ways of getting about that I found very enjoyable. HOWEVER, there was one part of the level that seemed to kill it for me (did no one else have this problem?). I'm reffering to the when you must Push a switch UP by jumping on a bounce pad. I don't know why, and maybe it's just me, but that part took me about 7 minutes! Alot of the level is slightly frustrating at times, which is fine, but this part was just KILLJOY frustrating for me.

In the end, I beat it, so it's a good level, and is definetly worth playing!

you're supposed to jump up, grab the switch, swing it aside and release it,

I will adjust it and make it a bit easier

Top stuff there pal. Looked really nice and tight. Sure did get quite challenging towards the end had to finish it. Some very nice moving between the layers and some great parts to get you there. Had fun playing it but was also telling my sackboy off at times for not making the jump or something, my fault not his. All in all a well made level, well thought through and classy to look at, nice.
I havent done an F4F on mine level but would be great if you could take a look. Alpine Abandon its called, a simple style platformer with a few parts to make you think, cheers dude.

Great job for a first level. I did manage to make it through, so I can't say that it's too hard or anything. It just seems to be unnecessarily frustrating in a few parts as others have said. The narrow columns are especially tedious but if you are going for fine control then I'd say mission accomplished.

Also, the rooms seem a little cramped, like you tried to squeeze the whole level in a tiny little box. If you give a little more space between rooms and just open up the environment in general I think it would be a lot better atmospherically.

Other than that, good. I gave it a like but not a heart. Liked the tubes. Liked the use of attract-o-gel. Keep working at it you have some good ideas.

Now for mine:
