Just read on Playstation Blog that more news will be given April 30th from the director Todd Pappy. So...no Stig Asmussen this time. Pappy was Stig's right hand. I guess Santa Monica pulled a Naughty Dog and is working on 2 games at the same time | 2012-04-19 09:01:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
The God of War series never had the same director, except for maybe the PSP games. The first one was made by David Jaffe, the second one by Cory Barlog, the third one by Asmussen... Maybe they're continuing the tradition? Anyway, I'm glad it's a prequel and not God of War IV. After God of War 1, the story went downhill and Kratos became an irrational f-wad. Except for the PSP games, those have a great story. | 2012-04-19 12:57:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |
The point is that David Jaffe left Santa Monica to found EatSleepPlay. Cory Balrog...well...according to wiki Barlog left SCEA in November 2007 for unknown reasons. It is rumored he is working on some unique and promising project, but he didn't announce where he went after Sony. He was a keynote speaker at ECAROcon 2008 in Syracuse, New York. In an interview with website Mega64 he announced that one title he is working on is an adaptation of the fourth Mad Max film, titled Fury Road. He was reported to be at Sweden to develop the title with Avalanche Studios, best known for the Just Cause series. Stig Asmussen is still working for Sony Santa Monica | 2012-04-19 13:37:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

What are you on about? He's a lovely bloke. Would be delighted if a man like that was dating my daughter.... if I had a daughter that is. I don't know how I'd feel about him dating my daughter. I don't think I'd protest. I like my head and limbs just the way they are now: attached to my body. I'm talking about the guy behaving like an a**. By God of War 2 he pretty much becomes the villain of the story, destroying greek cities full of innocent people. It's like he became the new Ares, and we hated that guy. Then Zeus tries to stop him (and for good reasons) and then Kratos reacts like a petulant child. And then he brings forth the apocalpyse and leaves the world in a miserable state for the sake of a petty revenge that was unjustified to begin with. Sure, he's a good guy. Very lovable. | 2012-04-19 14:05:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |

WTF, what kind of messy language are you speaking? "The director of Chains of Olympus was Ru Weerasuriya and the director of Ghost of Sparta was Dana Jan" So, there aren't any God of War games directed by the same producer. That's cool. | 2012-04-19 14:15:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |

Sonic doesn't rip people in half Believe you me, a super fast, super spinny jump attack doesn't just leave a bruise on the old noggin'. To his credit though, Sonic only rips robots in half. Still a violent son of gun though. | 2012-04-19 15:31:00 Author: Ali_Star Posts: 4085 |
Ive never played a GoW Title, is it good? Am I missing out? Should I get this game? EDIT: And oh yes, Ive taken over the "General Stuff" Section of LBPC. :kz: If you like adventure and epicness, you're missing out big time! Altough as Omega said you shouldn't really play these games if you're too young to play gory and violent games. As of yet, there's 3 main games and 2 prequels. If you are going to play them all, it should be in this order to make more sense: -God of War 1 -Chains of Olympus -Ghost of Sparta -God of War 2 -God of War 3 For the record, Chains of Olympus takes place before GOW 1, but you really should play GOW 1 first to understand Kratos' story better. See, even though GOW1 takes place after Chains of Olympus, some of the game's flashbacksthat explain Kratos' background take place before that. Presumably, Ascension will take place in the time period even before Chains of Olympus. | 2012-04-19 15:46:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |
I still haven't played the PSP versions, thought I do intend to get the collection on ps3.... when I eventually finish my lbp level. So probably sometime late next year then. | 2012-04-19 17:34:00 Author: Ali_Star Posts: 4085 |

Play the first one only. No regrets, no plot holes, and better closure than the rest of the games combined. Or play the second and third ones without giving a darn about the story. The gameplay's still great, even if those games have no good reason to exist story-wise. | 2012-04-19 18:18:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |

Well, as GoW goes to GoW3, you probably stop giving a dang about the plot and become a violent ***hole just like uncle Kratos. Only when playing the game, of course. | 2012-04-19 21:10:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |

Well, there's a difference between you and me: you play for the gameplay, and I play for the story. If the story is too stupid, I drop the game and abandon the series, so go ahead and enjoy Adolf Kratos: The Video Game, but I'm done with God of War now. | 2012-04-19 22:46:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |
Well, there's a difference between you and me: you play for the gameplay, and I play for the story. If the story is too stupid, I drop the game and abandon the series, so go ahead and enjoy Adolf Kratos: The Video Game, but I'm done with God of War now. I give some importance to story too. I too find it frustrating that they ruined a perfect greek tragedy and a tragic hero to make mindless gore-fests. I'm just willing to overlook a game's story if the gameplay proves fun enough. How about a God Of War drinking game? Difficulty Setting: God of War PSP: easy God of War 1: medium God of War 2: hard God of War 3: very hard -Every time a cutscene comes up and Kratos has this face = , take a drink; -Every time Kratos agressively yells against another character, take a drink; - When a character warns Kratos to stop or face dire consequences and he ignores the warning, drink; -When our guide instructs Kratos to retrieve a magical McGuffin, drink; -Every time Kratos threatens another character, drink! -When Kratos kills an NPC that didn't cause him any harm, drink! -When Kratos has the chance to bang a woman in a mini-game for XP, drink! -Every time Kratos says "revenge", drink! -When Kratos tells an enemy he won't be able to stop him, drink! -Every time Kratos is responsible for a friendly character's death, drink! -Every time Kratos wins a boss fight by tearing off a body part of the enemy, drink! What if the game is not about combat at all? What if it's like Heavy Rain, where you are falling in love with your wife, beginning to raise a family, and so forth. You get to interact with the environment, like picking up a rock or using a bowl to eat food. At the end of the game it shows your motive as to why you murdered your babe and became a god, thus transitioning to God of War. where did they say the story would be shorter? Papy told Eurogamer Ascension's campaign is "just a little bit shorter" than in previous God of War games. "We've mapped out everything and given time estimates. It'll be pretty **** close." http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-04-30-god-of-war-ascension-multiplayer-confirmed | 2012-05-05 23:56:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
where did they say the story would be shorter? Rabid-Coot answered that for you. And they say it'll be close to the previous ones but in my experience, devs always exaggerate the duration of their games. They say it's 10 hours long, you can expect something 7 hours long. | 2012-05-06 00:49:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |
mmmm... i was worried that spending time on multiplayer would shorten the singlepayer so i'm not too happy about that. | 2012-05-06 10:06:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |

It looks... grand really. Kind of more of the same... but so far that boss is NOT as epic as Poseidon. So I'm currently unimpressed. Little disappointed. The elephant enemy was pretty cool but everything else was same old same old. I think they should've had a trailer as well. | 2012-06-05 17:26:00 Author: Burrich Posts: 1018 |
I'm not even sure if that boss is going to be in the game or not. Remember the GoW3 demo at E3 2009? At the end, Kratos was launching himself at a giant, flaming titan. However, in the final game, you never fought that titan at all. | 2012-06-09 22:34:00 Author: VenemoX Posts: 197 |

What exactly would anyone want with an 8 inch statue of kratos? not only is he hideously unattractive, but he's not actually that intricate a character, he'd be quite bland to look at I'd imagine, plus, 8 inches. EIGHT INCHES. what an akward size!! | 2012-06-18 21:04:00 Author: Smudge228 Posts: 533 |
He did his job well in GOW 1 and Ghost of Sparta, but I find no good reason why we'd want to advance his agenda in GOW 2 and 3. He basically became the villain of the story. | 2012-06-19 06:29:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |

God of War: Ascension dev 'pulls back' from in-game violence against women http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/gowa530px.jpg In an interview with IGN, Sony Santa Monica's David Hewitt admitted the team's scaled back on the violence towards women in God of War: Ascension. The team is of the mind that showing such a thing would make a statement and define the character in a way that doesn't befit Kratos. "There are some things we've pulled back from. I think where this has been an issue is with violence against women – the team's pulled back from some of that and assessed that a little more carefully," Hewitt admitted. "There are certain things that carry has a different kind of resonance that we don't want to get into. This isn't about statement-making in that regard. It's about fleshing out this character." The overall interview focuses not just on violence on women, but violence in general. As one of the most criticized games of E3 in this regard, Hewitt justifies God of War: Ascension's body count by saying Kratos doesn't languish in the slaughter, nor does he particularly enjoy it. Kratos is constantly pushing forward, moving toward his goal of revenge, so Hewitt doesn't feel the violence is particularly glorified. I'm not nearly as excited for this game as I thought I'd be. I guess I'm just tired of Kratos. It'll be the sixth game in which we'll hear him whine about how he's tormented, that the gods don't give a crap, the usual stuff. This series is almost 8 years old, and Kratos is probably still the same miserable sod we saw in the first game. | 2012-10-23 02:25:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |

I enjoyed every single minute of the video. This looks much better than GoW III. Those giant hands turning into those disgusting insect monsters was simply genius. The way how they designed the level using the Hekatonkeir's (did I spell it right?) body is just something like unreal to think of. I want this game so badly now! | 2013-02-02 21:15:00 Author: Schark94 Posts: 3378 |
Yeah, it also revived my interest for the game. Altough with Bioshock Infinite, MGS Rising and The Last of Us in the horizon, it'll probably have to wait. | 2013-02-03 04:39:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |

So who's played the demo then? I enjoyed it. Obviously, not too much different from the last games, but we all know what to expect with GoW games. At least it's not like CoD or Assassins Creed where we get a new game every year. Graphics were nice. Initially it was jarring that R1 was used to grab enemies, when it's always been O in the past. Also, in the quick time events, the button prompts are all the same colour (rather than being the same colour as they are on the controller) which did throw me a bit at first. | 2013-02-28 10:37:00 Author: Ali_Star Posts: 4085 |
Yup played it. Enjoyed it. Although it's more of the same and when thinking about it while not playing the game, that's boring. But to be honest, while playing the demo its is constantly fun, challenging and heart-racing. The graphics are excellent, it feels smoother than GOW3. My only slight complaint is that it's so busy on screen sometimes that it can be hard to see what's going on so you're just wildly swinging the blades rather than timing blocks and doing focused attacks. Still, it's fun and gorgeous and I'll invariably be buying it. | 2013-02-28 13:47:00 Author: Burrich Posts: 1018 |

Still, it's fun and gorgeous and I'll invariably be buying it. I like the ability to disarm enemies and pick up their weapons. It does seem a lot smoother than GOW3. The last GOW games I played were the collections, so obviously this is a massive improvement graphically. I hope they don't add a shed load of multiplayer trophies. I have plats on all the other GOW games, I'd hate to miss out on this one due to having to grind out trophies by playing 1000s of online games. Doesn't this come with a key to download the Last of Us demo? I'm sure I read that somewhere. | 2013-02-28 15:10:00 Author: Ali_Star Posts: 4085 |
Just got emailed a GOW: Ascension dynamic theme (not sure if it's due to having finished the demo or not). Very nice theme... though not all that dynamic. I heard that too... hopefully . And TBH I don't think MP trophies should exist, I think the levelling up within the MP should be its own reward as some people (myself in particular), really don't like MP. At all. The beta was grand but just don't see myself playing it for any length of time. | 2013-02-28 16:01:00 Author: Burrich Posts: 1018 |
