Custom Character Costume Exhibition

Archive: 12 posts

Well, I thought that I might add some pictures of my costumes here. I designed and made all of these costumes (and the stickers I used for them) myself, so I didn't rip off anyones work!
At the moment my level has around 750 plays and over 100 hearts I with an average of 4 stars, so I think it's doing pretty well
In my level you can see how exactly I made these, because the stickers I used are shown clearly and I have custom made stickers in prize bubbles so it shouldn't be too hard to make these if you want to!
My level is called "Custom Character Costume Exhibition" under the name of "Yardsack", but because the search system is horrible I think it's easier if you just search "Yardsack". You should find it easily, it has Squirtle and Charmander mask as its icon.
Oh and I didn't use the playstation eye to make anything, in fact I don't even own one.

So, here they are:

Napoleon Sackaparte (Based on this painting!) (http://web.bilkent.edu.tr/Online/www.english.upenn.edu/jlynch/Frank/Gifs/napoleon.gif) Probably my favourite, it has lots of sentimental value
Basic picture:
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/7947/aphoto13by0.th.jpg (http://img152.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto13by0.jpg)
You can see the shoulder pads better from this one: (they were REALLY hard to place!)
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/8323/aphoto12fa4.th.jpg (http://img152.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto12fa4.jpg)

Redcoat (not as good as Napoleon in my opinion, but the British members should like this I'll improve it when I have time probably)
Basic picture:
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/8521/aphoto15dg5.th.jpg (http://img152.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto15dg5.jpg)
Shoulder pads again:

Luckily for you the rest aren't historical characters, I'm just personally very interested in history (and study it) so thats why I made those

Ok, these are from the Batman series:

Batman (or Batsack? Had to cover the spacesuits lights with bear noses)
Basic:
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/6112/aphoto3jy4.th.jpg (http://img152.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto3jy4.jpg)
On a tower fighting evil!:
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/7987/aphoto1ll1.th.jpg (http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto1ll1.jpg)
In his Batcave:
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/5158/aphoto2ja7.th.jpg (http://img136.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto2ja7.jpg)

Joker (Ok I have seen plenty of these around, but believe it or not I made this before I even connected my PS3 to the network... Besides I used a different method than anything I've seen yet.)

Angry Joker:
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/8656/aphoto7vz9.th.jpg (http://img136.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto7vz9.jpg)
Laughing Joker: (Rotten teeth would be better perhaps? Not sure...)
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/9199/aphoto6xz1.th.jpg (http://img152.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto6xz1.jpg)

The rest are random characters from video games and T.V

Beatrix Kiddo (from Quentin Tarantinos Kill Bill, love that movie! Placing stickers on the PVC suit is incredibly hard by the way they just wont stick.)
Basic:
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/8323/aphoto5ky3.th.jpg (http://img136.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto5ky3.jpg)
Fighting stance:
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/4127/aphoto4tq5.th.jpg (http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto4tq5.jpg)

I will make more Kill Bill characters soon probably, like the Crazy 88 members and the Deadly Viper assassination squad atleast.

Jason Voorhees (from the movie Friday the 13th, I'm not a fan of that movie but I made it anyways!)
Basic stance: (I'll add more pics soon)
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/9146/aphotoyd6.th.jpg (http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphotoyd6.jpg)

Sonic The Hedgehog (Needs no introduction! I also made a level completely dedicated to help you create him, so check it out for help!)
Basic stance:
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/416/aphoto10nz5.th.jpg (http://img152.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto10nz5.jpg)
Running:
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/7159/aphoto9ic6.th.jpg (http://img136.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto9ic6.jpg)
Smiling:
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/7852/aphoto11be0.th.jpg (http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto11be0.jpg)

Ariel (from The Little Mermaid ofcourse)
Basic stance:
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/813/aphoto17yr0.th.jpg (http://img184.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto17yr0.jpg)
Running:
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/1226/aphoto16dn4.th.jpg (http://img136.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto16dn4.jpg)

Mr. Monopoly (the mascot of the Monopoly board games, kinda simple)
Basic stance:
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/6074/aphotoqh2.th.jpg (http://img136.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphotoqh2.jpg)

And then my latest and in my opinion best ones: (I'm actually getting better at this)

Squirtle:
Basic
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/2621/aphoto22tv6.th.jpg (http://img155.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto22tv6.jpg)

Caught him eyes almost shut
http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/2939/aphoto23vw3.th.jpg (http://img386.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto23vw3.jpg)

Running (you can see the shield)
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7368/aphoto24gg7.th.jpg (http://img155.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto24gg7.jpg)

Charmander:
Basic
http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/6774/aphoto25xd6.th.jpg (http://img353.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto25xd6.jpg)

Running (Made his flame by making the tip of the tail red, then placing yellow and orange flowers on the end, was really tricky but it looks just like fire)
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/3793/aphoto26nk6.th.jpg (http://img184.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto26nk6.jpg)

Squirtle and Charmander:
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/1193/aphoto27ju8.th.jpg (http://img184.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto27ju8.jpg)

I hope you liked them as they took quite a while to design and make! Check out my level for more, and tell me what you think
Oh and if you have any suggestions for costumes do tell me! I'm running out of ideas! And if someone wants me to design some costume on these boards or something just ask.

Ahh well it's really tricky to make them!

I make them in the level editor, I draw the figures out of cardboard and wood, then colour them up with stickers, then I take a photo of that object I have made and stick it on my character. It takes a LOT of time as you'd guess so I'm glad you liked it. I can upload a few pictures of me making my squirtle stickers so you'll get some idea.

I added my squirtle costume in my level, so check it out if you want to see how I made it. The final version bit better than the one shown above, so I'm very happy with the result, I think it's the best one I've made so far actually. (I mainly changed the stomach and added toes). I can help any forum members to create costumes if someone wants help by the way.

Sorry for the double post, but I finally finished my Squirtle and Charmander
I made Squirtle a lot better than it was, I might tweak Charmander (mainly his left eye) a bit more but Squirtle is done! I'm very happy about the results actually they are definitely the best two costumes I have made.

Here they are:

Squirtle:
Basic
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/2621/aphoto22tv6.th.jpg (http://img155.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto22tv6.jpg)

Caught him eyes almost shut
http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/2939/aphoto23vw3.th.jpg (http://img386.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto23vw3.jpg)

Running (you can see the shield)
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7368/aphoto24gg7.th.jpg (http://img155.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto24gg7.jpg)

Charmander:
Basic
http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/6774/aphoto25xd6.th.jpg (http://img353.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto25xd6.jpg)

Running (Made his flame by making the tip of the tail red, then placing yellow and orange flowers on the end, was really tricky but it looks just like fire)
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/3793/aphoto26nk6.th.jpg (http://img184.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto26nk6.jpg)

And heres both of them Made this my levels icon it looks pretty cool.
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/1193/aphoto27ju8.th.jpg (http://img184.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aphoto27ju8.jpg)

Ah yes and I promised to show you how I made these. I made these two stickers in the level editor, I drew them off cardboard and coloured them with stickers I took myself from all kinds of materials and fog colours.

Nah there isn't, its a shame!
In the end, all you need is patience to make them though. It's easier if you do them in the level creation mode as you can rewind if you do something wrong. And if you try to make one, save the costume many times while you make it because one small mistake could ruin it all.

Yeah I played your level and that is amazing how you made those. Good job, I think it would be interesting to maybe have your level dark, and have the player on a cart that goes by each and when you go by one a spotlight turns on. So each one coming is a surprise. Also maybe add a emitter on the top of each costume that emits the sticker for that character, and just have a trigger next to it to emit the sticker you want. Just some thoughts on a different way of creating the level. Or even have a gumball machine at the end, and so who knows what special sticker you are going to get at the end.2009-01-06 18:58:00

Thanks for the ideas
I've been thinking of making the level itself more interesting too, like using emitters and sensor switches for the lights and all, I'll start working on it soon

Aww, I can help you create it online sometimes if you want to, just add me as a friend It's not that hard to make him, more annoying than hard (with the shoulder pads especially!)
