In Space No One Can Hear You Snore

Archive: 19 posts

Ever wonder what it would be like to hibernate in outer space for 5 years? My guess is that it would be pretty messy.

The strangest thing has happened... I've finally published a level in LBP2! Following my "short and stupid" level building philosophy, I have (approximately) recreated the level I built for the LBP Vita Game Jam in February 2012. The level is not touch-based like my Vita level was, of course, but it is pretty much identical otherwise. There is a brief cinematic at the beginning to explain the backstory, and it also serves as one more part of the level where I could place a fart sound effect.

This level is designed for 1-4 players and features a simple drifting / ice-racing mechanic through a short sci-fi-ish maze. Collect as many floating drool droplets as you can, but don't waste too much time or you'll lose precious points at the finish line. Keep an eye out for sleeping crew members along the way - give them a good knock with your wheelchair and you'll score yourself some bonus drool. Balance time, combos, and bonuses and see if you can take the high score.

This isn't the longest or most inspiring level out there, but hopefully it's good for a laugh or two.

Just played.

LOL at the cutscene in the beginning. Its rare to get me to actually laugh from something in this game, and you actually did it, so props for that.

This is a nice little mini game to play every once in a while. Though the controls were kinda awkward at first. I didn't know you had to hold the direction you were going to steer. So I was all over the place at first, but I got used to it. Very nice visuals too. Very creative concept with... drool. I gave it a yay.

Thanks for playing everyone! Just a quick note about the cutscene: I am working on making it skippable and hope to have that update published shortly. Of course I have built myself into a corner a bit, but I have a workaround that should do the trick.

So I was all over the place at first, but I got used to it.Yes, that is one of the drawbacks of not recreating this on the Vita... The touch controls were REALLY easy to use - just put your finger on the screen and the wheelchair follows. Adapting that to stick-and-button was a little challenging but ultimately I like how it turned out. It's useful to know that it wasn't immediately apparent how they work but that it wasn't too difficult to get the hang of.

I got a chance to play this level with Mrs. Poo last night and we had a blast. If I remember the game jam level correctly, then you did a lot more with making the drool look better in this level than you were able to at the game jam. I also don't remember the fart in the intro, but I only got to see it once at the Game Jam so perhaps I just missed it due to all of the laughing :-)

Either way, this is a fun challenge! It got a Yay! and a heart from us :-D

Either way, this is a fun challenge! It got a Yay! and a heart from us :-DThanks poo! It's great to hear the level passed the critical "Mrs. Poo" test - whew! I wasn't able to test multiplayer much (ok, not at all) so I'm relieved to hear that it does in fact seem to be playable with more than one person on screen at the same time.

You are correct about both the drool and the farting. lol I had wanted to go back and resize some of the bubbles at the game jam but of course ran out of time - fortunately that wasn't an issue with this one. (And, as a bonus, I actually have a scoreboard!) I put the fart in the intro because... Well I just put it in there for fun and was going to delete it, but it makes me laugh so I left it in. Farts = win.

A taffey LBP ps3 level? Mother of god!Yeah, it's kind of a rarity I guess. I need practice in the LBP2 tools anyway so this was a good exercise for me. 2012-04-18 19:34:00

Kaiju! Hehehe thanks man. I think it's closer to 2 years actually... Geez, that's sad.

I actually have your pinball level queued up as well - I can't wait to check it out. I'm having fun catching up on community levels, and of course it's always nice to see one of yours pop up.

Alrighty Taffy, Played it and I liked it a lot The wheel chairs were perfect and the controls were amazing too. The constant fart noises and the opening cutscene made me literally laugh out loud sitting alone in my room. (My parents probably think i'm crazy now, thanks a lot!) The added bonus of running over your floaty co workers was super funny too. I only wish I got to play the original, vita version! Hearted, and yayed. Fantastic work Taffey 2012-04-22 03:39:00

Laughs are definitely what I was hoping for, and it sounds like that's exactly what happened.

I'd tell you to tell your parents sorry on my behalf, but you telling them "The space farting guy from the Internet says he's sorry" would only make things more awkward.

I only wish I got to play the original, vita version! Hearted, and yayed. Fantastic work Taffey Much obliged kind sir!

got to play this the other day and you really don't give yourself enough credit on it. It's a fun little race with a humorous beginning cutscene. There's a learning curve to the controls though and it took me a little while to get the hang of it, but I loved visuals and the concept of cleaning up all these slobber bubbles. LOL. Great level man and I'll be going back to it to better the score. You don't see my name because I was using my "secret" account.2012-04-26 01:14:00

It was a delightful little minigame! Loved the opening intro (seemed like a dandy little bonus). I didn't know it was an analog rotator at first, so I kept letting go of the analog stick, which kept messing me up xD That may have been my fault. I love the level!2012-04-27 01:15:00

Yes! A new dose of signature Taffey humor! For your first effort on PS3, you've made a fun AND funny unique little mini game. I really enjoyed it! I almost think you could have embedded it in a full size Avatar spoof level, in-between some platforming segments and such. But, I'm getting ahead of myself. Just glad you finally made something on LBP2 after 2 years post PSP LBP. Keep on creating!2012-04-27 20:58:00

Just played this with a friend...

I have some feedback for you.

I think that some kids are going to rage quit this level because of the somewhat difficult handling. I found the handling quite easy but my friend (*ahem* *ahem* *Skilla_Pro300* *ahem*) spent the first few minutes spinning around helplessly.
Also, I found that the course wasn't very clear; I didn't realize that you were supposed to go around the maze, I thought that you just had to collect the drool in any order you wanted. Perhaps you could make the maze a bit clearer.
This is probably me, but I want more sound effects. :kz:

This is still one of the rare levels that managed to make me smile. A yay and a heart from me.

*Edit*: Oh, right. Just remembered this is F4F. If you have time... https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=70087-Bouncing-is-Paramount-A-fun-little-minigame
Just a simple minigame I would like some feedback on.
