Moving platform physics

Archive: 5 posts

Just wondering if anyone knows a solution to this kinda simple problem. I have a platform that is constantly emitted and moves slowly upwards (about speed 3 on a mover) until it disappears off screen. My problem is when I jump on the platform there is a slight but noticeable slowdown or even downwards motion caused by the impact or weight of the jumping character (not a sackperson) The platform resumes speed after the initial impact but I thought there should be some way to prevent this from happening. All that is on the platform chip is the mover (upwards 3, accl, decel, both 100%) and a gyroscope set to max (the platform doesn't seem to tip at all) I've also tried adding an anti-grav tweaker set to 100% and up to 99% dampening but it doesn't seem to help. Thanks for any ideas!2012-04-16 04:36:00

I've had this happen before and it sounds like you have the settings correct.

One thing you could try is emitting the platform with a piece of invisible holo behind it, but not connected to it. Put a microchip on the holo and move your mover onto that. Also put a tag on the microchip.

Then, where your mover used to be on the platform, use a follower with 100% strength. Of all the movers in lbp, followers are probably the most stubborn, so it shouldn't be affected by the sackboy jumping on it. This is a roundabout way to solve your problem but it should work. Make sure up down movement is set to yes and speed set to 100. The true speed will be controlled by the mover on the holo.

If it still doesn't act quite right, then throw the anti-grav back on there with 100% anti-grav but no dampening.

Try copying the mover you have on the platform two or three times. That should be enough to negate the weight of sackboy.2012-04-16 18:30:00

Hello, I had these problems months ago, have a simple solution, I used it on my last level, it happened if a item isn't too heavy, the logic it have have the real power in proportion of the item' weight . The solution, as I told, is quite simple: Add more of the same logic, for example, create a microchip with 3 or 4 gyroscopes at 100% and connect the logic too to the chip to activate all of these logic, you can also make some combos with anti-gravity, for example 2 with 70% of power its equal to 140% of power directly proportional to the real weight ( If you set a anti-gravity to 100% is a real 100%, and don't care about weigh ). Try make some combinations and remember : You can use this knowledge for create everything, sometimes the real logic effect depend directly to the weigh of the item which is set. I hope it help. PS: Sorry if I explained it weird, I'm bad at explanation in english, I hope you understand.2012-04-17 12:32:00

Thanks for the responses, those were all very helpful. With an anti-grav and a single mover, I get the same effect no matter what the anti-grav settings are. Shane_danger's suggestion of using a hologram behind the platform that actually moves and a follower on the platform works great. I see no noticeable negative platform movement using this method. I'm sure the other method of doubling or tripling the mover will work too so I'll try that later as well. At least I have a couple good solutions now, thanks guys! Call this one solved..2012-04-17 16:56:00
