Changes to your profile cannot be saved due to an unknown error? [SOLUTION INSIDE]

Archive: 14 posts

Can anybody explain this for me? Sure this isn't an isolated issue. I can't delete anything nor save anything!

Any help would be welcome!

EDIT: Ok, based on others accounts, i seem to have come to a solution and cause of this annoying bug!

The cause is most likely a combination of a packed profile, mine was at 16mb and full of community objects and objects i have captured; and receiving gifts from friends with this messy profile.
I have heard of 3 accounts that said their profile gave out this error when receiving a gift from a friend whilst maintaining a packed profile.

Solution? For some, it will be to load up your last profile back up. However this didn't work for me. The other solution is to frantically delete needless objects, stickers etc.
None of the above worked for me for some reason. My deleted objects returned upon reboot. I found my solution with a combination of the above. I loaded up my last profile back up and frantically deleted things i didn't need, then (as this wasn't enough) i published all the levels on my moon that i am working on to my Earth and then deleted them off my moon....Praise a higher force, i was back.
I then simply copied my levels back onto my Moon and no problems are present.

To sum up MY solution that is also based on other accounts to this problem:

1. Load last profile back up (if you can)

2. Delete all needless objects and stickers - Don't be picky, have a good clear out!

3. Publish levels being worked on or any you NEED to My Earth

4. Delete the same levels and any levels that are wasting space from My Moon (don't worry, they'll remain published on your Earth)

5. You should now be ok! Copy your levels back to your Moon and for god sake, from now on - keep tidy!

That should be it. Depending on your situation, points 1 and/or 2 could solve it alone.

How exactly do you mean you can't delete or save? Do you mean that you can't capture objects/save costumes/pictures/etc. at all or that you still can but your saved profile just doesn't update to include them? And by delete, do you mean you can't delete saved objects/costumes/pictures/etc? If you can't, then that's a problem I've never heard of.

Back in the early days of LBP1, we were limited to around 5MB of savedata iirc: it was saved in the savedata section. Later it was patched so that savedata was stored in the game data section and the max file size was raised. I haven't heard what the limit is if any. Anyway, back when the limit was lower, we would run into problems with saving our data and it turned out to be caused by exceeding the max file size. If we had too many captured objects/etc. we couldn't save without deleting them. If that's not the case for you, then I have no idea what the problem is and you should report it to Mm.

I try to delete anything and it just brings up that message and the deleted objects/levels are returned when i restart the game.

I tried loading up the last time i backed up a profile and that didn't do anything. This is extremely odd.

Thank you for your suggestions though. I can't seem to find a place to contact Mm either. It just leads to Playstation Support which is infact an error page. I have attempted Littlebigplanet facebook, but it's ignored as of now.

Frustrating.

Oh, my profile is 16mb.

This is an old, but (luckily) very rare issue.

It has been reported on getsatisfaction.com (https://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/recent_changes_to_your_profile_could_not_be_saved) over a year ago, but I don't think there has been found a reliable fix yet.

I have had it a few times myself, and the only thing I could do was to load a backup of my profile. But if even this procedure doesn't work for you, I don't know what to do...

I'm very sorry

Great

I managed to publish my levels, but even though they're guaranteed saved, going through story dlc, community objects, my captured objects....are gone/have to be completed again. Considering there's no other solution, of course.

I will wait for this update then play around with it some more.

Is there a way around this without having to revert to an old backup? my last one was months ago. I can't back up any of the levels in my huge project I've been working on, it's giving me the 'there has been an unexpected error'. 100+ hours into this project, so I cannot lose all of it. that happens and I quit LBP. Also, half the levels on my moon that I had custom badges on have the yellow caution sticker as the badge now. Getting pretty mad at this point.

"due to an unknown error". it's obviously NOT an unknown error if theres a code in the game to make a box come up if that error happens.

Eanikran, it's been happening more and more lately to people.

Read my original post, it's a solution that i composed via many different accounts.

Try doing points 2 through to 4.

sorry for the language in my last post, I was having a pretty bad day yesterday. anyway, so anything published will still be there after reverting? Tried deleting objects/empty moon levels/excess things, then it gives me the error and drops everything I deleted back in (tried twice), so I don't think that's working for me. it lets me back up some of my levels but at least half drop an error. Also, I managed to make a backup of my current profile, tested it on my other PS3 to see it it would work, and it said 'the data is corrupted'. so I just need to know whether or not loading a backup changes what's on your earth.2012-04-19 18:21:00

^ loading a backup will only change what's on your moon, while everything on your earth remains the same.2012-04-19 18:59:00

They'll always remain on your Earth.

Try to delete as much as you can, don't be picky. When i finished deleting my community objects, captured objects and stickers, it still gave me that error message. It wasn't until i published any level i needed to my Earth and then proceeded to delete everything on my moon that it snapped out of it and continued on as normal.

It should definitely work if you remain strict on your clear out.

Lotus, you should put this up on GetSatisfaction (http://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet) too. That way the QA guys have a report of the issue and a possible solution. 2012-04-26 20:15:00

I've gotten that error before, what I usually do is just delete a bunch of stickers and objects and it goes away.2012-04-26 22:42:00

This problem reared its ugly head again last night. Tried deleting a load of objects but no joy. Will try Lotus's method above, failing that I shall curl up into a ball and cry.

EDIT: Ok, I deleted a load of crap. That didn't work. Then I published a level that was on my moon and that seemed to fix it for some strange reason. Didn't even have to load an old profile backup. Very strange indeedio.
