Sonic The Hedgehog Music Gallery

Archive: 11 posts

Hey guys, this is my first real level published, and its a music gallery. Not only is it a music gallery, but you can think of it as a tech show as well. I really hope you give it a shot, even if you're not a fan of sonic, you still might like the music and overall design of this level. Now heres a few pictures to drool over(even though they look much better in game). Enjoy!

Okk, I finally played it, (I hearted it also), the gallery looks good, The menu itself is hard to use at the beggining, but not "too" hard, anyway, once you get it works fluid. The music is outstanding, everysong is similar as the original ( But not exactly the same, this is LBP 2 ). Overall a must see level for every sonic ( and music in general ) fan. Keep up good work. 2012-04-15 05:27:00

Nice job. Only really recognised the classic songs. Would like to see more of those, plus if you could add some from the Gamegear games (I've not seen any on LBP), that'd be great. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for updates. 2012-04-15 12:21:00

I was actually thinking of adding a few game gear songs to the Handheld category. One in particular is Green Hills Zone (not to be confused with Green Hill Zone). As for the classic songs, I was thinking about getting a few more modern songs first since that category does seem a bit empty with only 2 songs, while the classic category has 6.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I'll be sure to update this thread if I add more songs.

Edit: Oh yeah I almost forgot. There is a small secret in the level. All you need to do is stay in the store for a while and you'll see it. Its not very hidden, in fact most of you have probably seen it on accident, not to mention its in one of the pictures.

I quite like the song from the first act of Sonic 2 on handheld (I forget the level's name though).

I played it earlier and all the songs sound really nice! I really only recognized the classic ones as well, but they all sounded good to me. I tried figuring out the iPod by myself without the tutorial, but I ended up having to read it anyway.

I think a few more modern songs would be good if it's possible. Especially those from Sonic Adventure/Sonic Adventure 2.

The store section was nice and easy to use, too. The only thing I could suggest here is maybe adding D-pad controls as well, since I think it's most people's preference when using menus.

Thanks for the feedback.

D-pad control was an idea for the store, but I already have volume control set to the dpad for every menu, so in the end I left it out. I could set volume control to the shoulder buttons possibly. I'll leave it as is for now, but this is an option of I change it later.

As for more Modern songs, those are honestly the hardest to make, which is why it seems pretty empty. Sonic adventure 1/2 are basically my childhood, so I'd love to make songs from them if I can.

I'm glad the tutorial helped. That was honestly a last minute decision because I finally realized the only reason I could navigate the ipod so easily was because... I was the one that designed it. After getting my friends to try it out I realized I needed a tutorial, so I went ahead and made one so people wouldn't get lost.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm glad everyone has liked it so far, and that matters more than the plays.

Thanks for the feedback on my level (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=69771-In-Space-No-One-Can-Hear-You-Snore), and sorry it took me so long to get back to you - it's been a crazy week. Here's your F4F:

There are many things that really impressed me about this level. First and most of all, wow that's a lot of songs! They are all expertly reproduced and I didn't catch any weirdness or inaccuracies in any of them - really nice job getting those spot on. Nice use of the Move Pack instruments as well. The iPod interface is a great idea and really well put together, and it makes browsing through the music library fun and rewarding.

By far my favorite part of the level is the store. Wow! The rest of the level looks good, but the store puts it all to shame. You really should do the entire level in that style with the 2D camera setup and all. Really, really cool. I almost ended the level without even seeing the store, then remembered about it from the tutorial and went back to find it in the menu, and boy am I glad I did.

So speaking of the tutorial, it's very good but also pretty long. I believe it was 10 or 15 screens... It would be better if you could cut it down to half. It's nicely implemented though and very clearly explained. The only other thing I didn't really like - and this is just me being super picky - is the iPod controls themselves. I didn't like that I had to use the right stick to operate the wheel. Going from stick to button to stick was awkward and I always found myself starting with the left stick because it just makes more sense (and it's what you used in the store). Instead of a simple left/right rotation setup, a joystick rotator seems like it would be a lot more natural. Spin the stick around to navigate the wheel just like a real iPod! It also seemed like you had to rotate the wheel too many times to get the menu to move up and down (1 full rotation per menu tick) and it would be nicer if it was more like a half rotation per tick.

In any case, aside from my minor picky points I really must say this is a solid level. Really well done and I can't wait to check out the new songs when you add them. You got a yay and a heart for me on this one.

The store is my favorite part also. The only problem is that its a LOT of stickers, so in the end I actually had to cut it down a bit because some of the stickers weren't showing up. I'm actually considering making level like this, but I wont be able to use the stickers like that.

Ah the dreaded tutorial. This was my one fear of the level and you are the first to mention it. I thought the tutorial would be too long to the point where it would be a turnoff and people wouldn't play the level at all, but its good to know that people are sticking through it. I'm gonna look back and see if I can cut down on it a bit, as long as I still teach the player how to use the tools.

These are pretty good points. The rotation speed could be changed, since you really aren't going to be navigating the menu while trying to use the wheel options at the same time, so they shouldn't interfere with each other, so I could definitely change the speed with no problem. Just as simple as changing some timers.

As for the controls, this ended up being the best way for me to do them. I actually tried the joystick rotator at first, but for some reason it didn't work right with the rest of my logic. Maybe I was just making some mistakes, but it just wouldn't work with the menus for some reason.

In any case, aside from my minor picky points I really must say this is a solid level. Really well done and I can't wait to check out the new songs when you add them. You got a yay and a heart for me on this one.

Thanks a bunch for the very informative feedback. Glad you liked the level.
