F4F: The Underground Temple of Gold - (Video added)
Archive: 14 posts
This is my first level to work on 100% by myself since my other 2 levels were created in co-op with a 7 and 9 year old. Sorry, I am in the need of feedback since the comments in game are almost worthless. It would be easier to find by searching for psybex. Any help is greatly appreciated. JwdIllyz5Ko Youtube video and intro thanks to Sheep-Lord also in HD: YouTube - [LBP] Underground Temple of Gold If you do provide Feedback 4 Feedback please leave a comment in game. | 2009-01-02 20:04:00 Author: Psybex Posts: 32 |
Well man, congratz on making a really stellar level. You provided some challenge with a prospect of acing the level which I love. I personally played it 4 times (sorry to screw with your play/heart ratio) and would've aced it if it wasn't for that first timed challenge >< haha Anyway here are my thoughts: Pros -Your attention to detail was very, very obvious. This is an extremely polished level. There were no hooks or snags, and all the jumps were planned out perfectly, which is ideal in a platformer. I loved how you used different materials to create a beautiful temple. -Your waterfalls were really the show-stopper in this level. They looked fantastic man! Let me in on your secret - I love timed challenges in levels because they produce such a varied scoreboard at the end. Also, they weren't too long, which is a good thing because they rush players, and to rush through this level would cause you to miss out on some of the finer points. - The part at the end where the entire platform you were on tumbles into oblivion was a great touch. Left a warm feeling after the level was completed. Great job here! Cons - There were no enemies in the entire level. Not such a big deal since your platforming was so well done, but it's always nice to see some custom enemies in levels. - The magic mouth on the wall looks really out of place. Maybe replace it with some sort of custom made idol for a better effect? -Make all switches invisible. Level looks much more polished if you do this. - the platforms that go up and down after the timed race are off-sync and cause the player to wait around for them to get back into sync. Also, after those platforms maybe put in a single checkpoint just so you don't have to redo that section because it's kind of a pain. Altogether a really nice level man Welcome to the forums as well! That was great. I love those kind of levels when they are done right, and you done it spot on. Pros Great use of lighting and materials. Very atmospheric and inviting. Music was well matched for the theme. Is one of those must finish levels. Cons If I was to nitpick I'd make the magic mouths invisible and put a decoration in their place. The bronze sun wouldn't look out of place. | 2009-01-02 23:13:00 Author: Unknown User |
Thanks for the feedback, I'll see what I can come up with for a replacement for the magic mouths (I wish we could sticker them ). | 2009-01-03 18:47:00 Author: Psybex Posts: 32 |
I think that you can sticker them with the normal color stickers, at least Mm have done this on the queen in the story mode gardens. | 2009-01-03 22:33:00 Author: Marklin80 Posts: 458 |
Hey, I've just joined the forums, this will be my first post I'm just running through your level now, posting my findings as I type! Pros Looks fantastic, great design in the details Excellent lighting effects Great choice of materials, it all fits in suberbly I love the cave-ins and then the lighting that shines through, really good The end part, where it all collapses leading you to the end was well done Nice platforming sections Original platforming mechanics Cons Its been mentioned, but the magic mouths are the wrong colour Other than that, none I could find, it all works great, with no flaws. ------------ That was one of the best looking and most playable levels I have seen in LBP. I've hearted you and the level, great job. I review levels in a thread on GameFAQS, I'll be adding this tomorrow to see if I can get you more deserved plays. Give my "From Siberia With Love Pt.1: Infiltrate" by GruntosUK a try if you get the chance please, cheers. | 2009-01-03 22:58:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
Pros: I like decorations in the background, the lights (could use a bit more radius just to show the effect of actually lighting up). also i like the part at the start when you fell through the ground Cons: I hate I hate I hate logs rolling down at me on fire, but everyones put it in a level ( including myself once). The Other thing that i hated was i felt lost the entire time, i didnt know which way to go and it had no instructions or hints. 4/5 Satiyfing, My level is in my sig. | 2009-01-04 04:12:00 Author: Marcus--Aurelius Posts: 8 |
The Other thing that i hated was i felt lost the entire time, i didnt know which way to go and it had no instructions or hints. If you needed instructions/hints to get through this level, than you must really struggle through most levels....I think this level was pretty linear in all facets so I can't agree with you on this point at all. It was pretty clear throughout m8, and I don't think you need to change anything. | 2009-01-04 10:23:00 Author: Neverynnal Posts: 374 |
I agree Neverynnal. I hate when levels have arrows, pointing fingers, etc ... all over the place when they are not needed. Thanks for the feedback, Marcus--Aurelius. I think that you can sticker them with the normal color stickers, at least Mm have done this on the queen in the story mode gardens. I've tried the solid color stickers with no luck. I think I will just create an idol or something like Neverynnal suggested. | 2009-01-05 21:02:00 Author: Psybex Posts: 32 |

Psybex, I gave you level a try last night and here is what I thought: Pros: I liked the multiple paths and hidden bubble areas. I think I did good finding them as I got 6th on the score page. I loved how you created the water effects using the spinning blue wheel and the falling glass. The atmosphere was great. The lighting and tiny details in the level were some of the best I've seen in the community levels. I liked how at the end the whole level rotates and you fall to the score board. Cons: Couldn't find much to complain about. There was a small seam between the glass falling waterfall. I'm not sure if this can be fixed or not since you are emitting the glass to fall. I gave it a heart and 5 stars. | 2009-01-11 14:05:00 Author: Lamniformes Posts: 13 |
Couldn't find much to complain about. There was a small seam between the glass falling waterfall. I'm not sure if this can be fixed or not since you are emitting the glass to fall. Yea, I tried many different techniques to achieve that effect and the way I have it now was the best visually but still has a little flashing. | 2009-01-15 19:03:00 Author: Psybex Posts: 32 |
Just had a play-through and here are my thoughts: ^^" I love the concept and the atmosphere! The use of SFX were also brilliant! The falling stones really make it look and feel like your underground! well thought! The waterfalls were also great! ^^ The overall design was superb! Really ... doesnt have anything to complain about that! What, with the multipath, secret paths and so forth ... what more can one look for? The music used is suited for the overall concept ^^" The lightings was pretty well used as well. Really love the small stroke of light at the beginning! Platforming elements were top notch! The only con I could say is that water effect ... (which the last feedback stated). Overall ... I just want to say that this level alone deserve a 5 star, a heart and a creator-heart ^^" ! Its that good! | 2009-01-16 12:40:00 Author: Senrir Posts: 126 |
