What the....?

Archive: 13 posts

I don't know what on EARTH is going on, but my levels have gone through a random growth spurt. My Checkers level being the prime example. Now, this is a level that was first published in May last year (wow... was it really that long ago? Time sure flies), and had barely reached 100 plays by... ooooh, about midday yesterday. Next time I check this morning, it has 169 plays. Where have they all come from? I know, that 69 plays in one day isn't a lot for some folk, but for a level that has been pretty much dead recently to get so many plays in a short space of time..... I'm confused. I can't see any reasons for it either.

My Battlesnakes level and Sackleships have gained about 20 plays each too.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Preferably those with similar standing levels?

Perhaps. Though wouldn't they leave a message on my profile it was reccommended by a fan site? Would be strange for such an old level to get noticed that way, not even one of my better ones either. It's just a shame I can't release my next level now to take advantage of this sudden rise in "popularity".

EDIT: Mystery solved (I think) ----- http://lbp.me/v/-fx2c-

Something similar also happened to me. My level had gotten over 100 plays when I added the word "platformer" to the title and when it got an honourable mention on an LBPC Spotlight. Now a few months after that happened (it's not as long a time span as yours Ali_Star, but still) I come back to LBP after a couple for days of being offline, I check my level, and it got 385 plays! That's a heck of a lot compared to the 237 plays it had when it literally stopped in popularity a few months ago. I don't know what happened, and I don't care what happened, all I need to know is that I`m nearly at 400 plays for my first LBP2 level at the moment, and I`m happy about it.2012-04-10 02:46:00

Certainly was a strange experience for me, having so many plays in a short space of time. I mean, we're talking about 100 total plays on Saturday afternoon for my Checkers level (which has seen the biggest rise, I think because is was the first level link in the hub), to 419 total plays as I'm typing! To be honest, I'd prefer it if it was my Battlesnakes level getting most of the plays, that's the level I happiest about. It's agonizingly close to 100 yays too, something not achieved by myself so far.

Strangely enough though, I kinda like my levels being more "obscure". The joys of finding out I've had a NEW PLAY (OMMMMMMMMMG!!!) have been lost over this weekend.
The rise seems to have died down now, at least for the time being. I can relax.

Yeah being new to LBP and having published my first attempt not long ago, it really is very rewarding to see people playing and even leaving positive feedback.2012-04-13 12:28:00

Certainly is.

I just got another message from someone else has put a level of mine in his hub. He's nowhere near as popular as the other chap, but it's still nice to know that there are people out there who rate your level highly enough as to recommend it to others.

Cool! Congrats.

Getting a Spotlight these days is certainly helpful with the new Hub and MM adding it in their news section.

Also, if you have a good level and get glowing reviews, that review can bring in other players. I know I queue up levels based on friends reviews. And, if people like it enough, they might bring friends back too! Sometimes, the plays come simply by word of mouth, which I think is probably the highest praise a level can get.

Glad to hear people are finding your level.

I tend to look at what my hearted creators have recently played. I'm finding a lot of good levels/creators that way, that I wouldn't normally have found.

then I looked on here and I got an HM in spotlight 82. man, even getting just an HM on one level jumps all your stuff up pretty quick.

I've seen that happen a couple of times. Pretty sure it was just down to my internet connection.
