Adrian's Reviews - A Journey Through a Digestive Tract

Archive: 7 posts

Hey, this is my first ever review through Adrian's Reviews. If you want me to review one of your levels be sure to visit my thread: and request that your level be added to the queue.

Now without further ado, here is the review of:
LEVEL: A Journey Through a Digestive Tract
CREATOR (on LBPCentral): Elbee23
PSN ID: Elbee23

__ __ __
Before, we begin. If you would like to offer me some suggestions on my reviews and such, you can either use the thread or send me a PM.

I shall review each of the four of the following aspects of the level, and then finally present a final score based off the averages of three of the aspects (the Difficulty aspect is NOT averaged)
__ __ __

Story
The story within 'Journey' really shouldn't be considered a story, it is more the following the food entering a person through the mouth, all the way until it comes out the 'rear end'. The idea though, is very well thought and while I will touch more on the reason why below, I will give the story a 5/5 automatically as there really is no 'storyline'.

SCORE: 5/5

Dialogue
The dialogue is made up of small blobs of bacteria (I think...) giving you hints and ideas about what is happening inside the body in the area you are currently in. The amount of technical vocabulary astounds me, very 'big' and 'medical' words as used to describe the human body, such as the word 'polyps' being used to describe small things, that if touched, would kill your Sackboy. The grammatical and punctuational side of things is perfected so no grubs there either. All round, I shall give a 4/5 for Dialogue.

The point is taken off for the lack of dialogue. I would have liked to see a little bit more of explanation of what is happen, as the entire premise of the level is to essentially tell you about the Digestive Tract.

SCORE: 4/5

Platforming
While platforming may not be the big part of the level, the small amount that is there is beautifully put there, there is jumping, pulling of switches to move around the human body, and some nice little things here and there which kind of make you think that there's no problem with there not being more of that kind of stuff. But the small amount that was in the level I enjoyed vastly.

There is one small area where 'bacteria' are invading a part of the body and you are asked to kill them by jumping on them, I died once here at the top since there was hardly enough space to jump on to the bacteria in order to kill it.

Platforming score is 3/5, for the reason that a little bit more platforming would've been nice and problem could've changed the whole level into a whole nicer experience.

SCORE: 3/5

Difficulty
Difficulty, as noted above, is not averaged into the final score, so I won't elaborate too much here. This section is simply to show those sackboys and sackgirls who want a bit more of a challenge which levels to go for.

Unfortunately those 'danger-seekers' won't be too impressed by this level. While can be challenging at times, it is a definitely slow-paced, more relaxing level, which I particularly enjoyed. It was a nice little tour through the insides of a Digestive Tract. So I shall give the Difficulty a 3/5, an average level that most people should be able to get through with no troubles.

SCORE: 3/5

Final SCORE
Here, the Story, Dialogue, and Platforming areas are all averaged out to give a final score.

Overall, the Journey Through a Digestive Tract is a fun, partly-informative level, bringing some fun to anatomy class!! Not really, but still a fun and enjoyable level, and I recommend people to check it out.

FINAL SCORE: 4.2/5
DIFFICULTY: 3/5

Thank you for the review, and the PM to let me know it was written, that was a very nice touch.

I'd say overall it's a very fair review. A polyp is a lumpy growth found in the small and large intestines as well as the bowels. Most people don't have them, and mostly they are harmless when they do.

They can sometimes become too aggressive in their growth, however, turning cancerous. This is not a good thing. When a person has bowel cancer, it's usually due to polyps going haywire.

I orgininally had the phrase "Be careful, the polyps in this section are cancerous!", but on reflection, I thought this was just too much information. So it now says "dangerous" instead.

The bacteria things are white blood cells, more specifically T Lympophytes, which is also known as the "helper" white blood cell. I thought it a fitting guide for the journey. Most people don't know about different white blood cells, so that's why it's simply called a "white blood cell". What they actually look like are puffy balls of spagetti, but most people would not recognise them then.

I guess I could have given more of a reason "why" sackboy is undertaking this journey. But I think overall it just detracts from the point of the adventure, which is the journey in and of itself.

But thanks again for the review. I was aiming for a relatively straight forward difficulty as I am not the best of platformers myself. It sounds like I got that aspect right.

Well, it may be a while until my next major level comes out. I'm half way through building "How to" 3 and am still polishing the already published TSR, which is really just an object demonstration (though a really, really fancy one).

The rough plan is for my next major level to be called "The Seige of the Castle". I'm hoping to really push the mechanical and story telling evelopes with that one. I've just got a lot on my plate before it gets done.

I've gone and modified this level and added a new speech bubble to the first story character and put another (same type of) story character at the end. This level should have a bit more "reason" as to why you are doing what you are doing. Basically it's a giant in the way, and the only way to get past is to go through. 2009-01-09 19:12:00
