PS3 malfunction

Archive: 9 posts

Well there's a problem that's been going on for a while, usually when I'm playing online, but sometimes happens in LBP. Now I'm getting more worried because it's getting rather frequent. Ok, here's what happens, by order of events:
-Screen freezes for an indefinite time (i've tried waiting but nothing happens)
-I have to press the "eject" button for something to happen.
-The disc ejects
-I hear 3 beeps, the power blinks a few times (still green though)
-Black screen, then the system restarts and the disc goes automatically in.
-The system sometimes does a file check or something like that, or tells me either the system was not properly turned off or that there was a software error/failure.
Can anyone identify this problem? If yes, what are the causes, and are there any solutions? Because I want to preserve my PS3 until the PS4 comes out and for posterity's sake. I want to show my future kids what were top graphics in my days.

I'm not sure of the exact solution to your problem, but if your PS3 can still stay on for at least a little while, then be sure to back it up. It's very important that you back it all up to a USB. That would be top priority in my opinion, because trust me, it can get worse, to the point where the whole system freezes just as you start it up.2012-04-07 18:53:00

This happened to me just before I got the YLOD.

The problem is likely caused either by a faulty power supply or one of the processors losing contact with the board. See this thread: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=65351

I don't need to repeat what everyone else has already said. It will save you a lot of hassle if you back up your data now.

Alright, I'll back up everything Asap, and then I'll do my best to prevent it from getting a Ylod.2012-04-09 07:10:00

Have you looked up the games that crash to see how widespread the issue is and if it always happens under the same conditions.

Just for example all three Uncharted games wiill do the freeze crash but they consistantly do it in the same place so it is clearly a software error not a hardware fault.
