Need Help Getting Plays!

Archive: 9 posts

A few months ago I uploaded a few levels, and only a handful of people have played it. I know it sounds kind of demanding, but I am looking for people willing to give my levels a try. They are a little tough, but I encourage players to try and beat it. It is possible to win!

Thanks!

Queued I'll be back with some feedback. 18 plays that just won't do.2012-04-06 12:27:00

Finally got round to playing this. This started off really nice with the cut scene. Very gothic and dark, but it got so dark that it stopped being fun and I had to quit. Here I'll put a few pics up to show you just how dark it got for me:

Seriously! This is way too dark! This is a shame as I was just getting into it. Without getting too technical you have to remember that everyone has a different tv set-up with different calibration and ranges of black. So you need to work on your lighting and direction as I didn't have a clue where to go or even see where I was going as it was too dark.

I managed to get blindly to an area with two baddies throwing out pink deadly projectiles but since it was so dark I just kept dying. This is a real shame as it has a really nice short and sweet intro.

So here are a few tips:
You can use LED lights (set to invisible) dimmed without any fog in areas and spotlights dimmed to create atmosphere and subtly light the way and add detail to your level design. You could even use the global lighting settings in the level itself or a global lighting tweaker at certain areas to create more atmosphere but still keep it dark and use a different colour to contrast. This way you will not sacrifice your overall dark and creepy level by making it too bright. A lot of the level design was hidden by darkness so I'm not sure how detailed it was or what I had missed. You could add in a few windows cut out or bits where the wall has crumbled or decayed to let some light in even it's just a subtle light from the moon.

I hope that helps. It just needs a bit more work and if you could sort out the lighting overall I would definitely come back to give it another go.

I also agree on the darkness issue, and felt that it was also a miss mash of elements. It could look more visually interesting if you used less textures, as it would free up the thermo to get some more detail into the the areas.2012-04-10 22:37:00

Thanks! I'll try and get on the darkness problem as soon as I can. I guess that's my biggest problem when I make levels: everyone's TV is set differently. The most ideal option (at least for me) would be for everyone to either adjust the brightness settings on their TV or change the Gamma settings in LBP2 itself. I'm just glad the problem is in the lighting and not in the level!2012-04-10 22:53:00

If you need feedback it might be wise to play some of the F4F levels on this forum, and give feedback on them. It's F4F which means you'll get feedback in return 2012-04-10 23:08:00

Mmm... I like how there's a lot of effort, but if you really want people to like it, you'll be wanting to add some detail, scenery wise. One trick I like to use Is to take a clear holo and place foliage depending on the theme. You could always try to mishmash invisible LEDs to make a cool effect, of shimmering light et cetera. Looks cool though! 2012-04-11 00:18:00

I believe I fixed the lighting problem. Try it out and tell me if it's okay.2012-04-13 01:37:00
