LBPC Crown Contest #7 - The Results

After the tough task we set everyone last time round, with LBPC7 we deliberately created a contest with a fun and light-hearted theme. We wanted you to entertain and thrill us and, boy, did you deliver the goods! There were lots of awesome and fun entries for the judges to test their circus skills in. We were shot through cannons, pushed out onto high wires and bounced left, right and centre. Thanks to all the contestants for a thrilling ride.

Sadly, we have to say goodbye to rialrees, a great friend and a great person. You'll be badly missed. We wish you the best for the future. The doors of the Crew are always open for you, as our hearts and arms are.

Congratulations Liquid_Blood_! Your entry blew us a way with its sheer creativity, vibrancy and all round wackiness. We were grinning from ear to ear as we played.

Well done to RtooDee2 ? you pushed the winner really hard. There were only a few points between you in the end. Your level was truly inventive too (we loved the button mechanic!) with some brilliantly designed platforming and a colourful circus vibe.

Congratulations too to our third placed entries, FreddyFerrari and silencer 775! Your levels were both full of cool gameplay ideas, exuberant visuals and lots of humour ? we had great fun playing them both.

Ooooooo...so close 2nd place

I knew the second i played Peter Panda i was in trouble, it blew me away with its original style and humor. It is most defiantly a better level than mine and i tip my hat to you Liquid Blood and say congratulations.

Ive played almost all of the contenders and was impressed with what i saw too. Congrats to all who have been mentioned.

I got an honourable mention on (LBPC1) and now 2nd here, so im going in the right direction...if im to finally be crowned.

Whoa! Whoa..! Guys, I'm shaking. (Maybe it's just cold in here?) I can't believe it, THANK YOU so much for this! Have to catch my breath.. calming down..shhhh.....okay. Thank you for such a wonderful contest. It pushed me creatively into making something I don't think I would have otherwise ever come up with, or actually saw through to completion. The whole scenery-changing idea was very confusing for me to implement and I'm very grateful to all my play-testers for helping me find and fix all those bugs, so the experience could be a smooth one.

This is crazy too, because RtooDee2's BIG TOP SHOWTIME! was by far my favorite level out of the others I played. No disrespect to anyone else, but I thought he came up with a really cool gameplay mechanic and the lighting, colour-palette and use of stickers were all very well-composed and lovely. Thanks, RtooDee2. I had a blast playing.

Carringtonandrew, I'd be happy for you to show me up with your own creative vision next time!

Personally I thought the level was by far the most original level among a field littered with generic muppet show cookie cutter clones. It was creative, whimsical, filled with varied gameplay sections and unique creativity. Congratulations on the win.

Yet it's one of the many reasons why it ended up being so. We were pleasantly surprised at his take on the theme/brief given. But it was very close and the general quality of the entires made it very hard and a lot longer to judge hence why we have a lot of honourable mentions. You can see how close they were since we have 2 levels at 3rd place.

Judging can usually take up to a month depending on how many entries we have to play, could be 20 levels or 50 levels and can end up playing them several times. But everyone is entitled to their opinion and everyone is different so we understand that.

You must have missed all the action from the contest thread. We actually had the results for a long time. But had to hold off to coordinate the announcement and get a slot booked with Mm for the news feed in the game when people pop into their pods. We also had to make sure we didn't clash with other fan site news being booked into the news feed slot.

So it took a lot of coordination and planning in advance.

The hub itself was causing a delay but today was indeed the day we had booked and we made it as this was the next slot we could use. Otherwise we would have had to wait until next week for the next slot available to us to announce it. We didn't want to clash with the news of Spotlight 82. Better now then having to delay it for yet another week.		2012-04-05 21:34:00

Do you think the people who invented this very contest are out of their minds? They seem like a pretty intelligent, thoughtful, considerate and caring group to me, especially after hearing how difficult the judging process was.

Liquid_bloods was an amazing entry, very original and nailed what the judges asked for, so don't start criticising their choice. They're word is FINAL!

This is not the sort of behaviour we encourage at lbpcentral.

BUT I will end it on a good note... I did actually find your level fun enough to play a few times, the music, effects and shooting was fun, even a bit adictive (it was just lacking in gameplay as already pointed out). So don't take it to heart.

Judges and a lot of other people do a lot behind the scenes to bring you these competitions. If it wasn't for these dedicated people we wouldn't have such competitions, spotlights or Crowns (I wouldn't even be here doing my part). Just entering one is an achievement in my book as I know I would never be able to meet a deadline in time. Ok, i think i know what #8 will be now.

Its going to be a level that uses no powerups, bounce pads or anything fancy. MM pick InterKinetic type of thing. A level that uses physics to move things along im guessing and it will be full of very odd contraptions. Can't wait.		2012-04-14 10:33:00

That's a point, you guys were the one reliable place for crown contests, if you go... Where can we go? LBL do one quite rarely, LBN contests are done every 4-5 months and Planetarium are the same... So basically what are people gonna do now? Awkward.. 2012-04-15 17:23:00

Err... Hello I'm still here. It's more to do with organisation and sorting out a schedule so we don't end up with several contests running at the same time, with minimal or little overlap. Also so MM can oficially & effectively communicate them in a timely manner through the news feed and other channels. Plus judges need a break between and to do other jobs such as creating hubs ( & prevent any members from the dreded LBP burnout). Get a happy medium across all sites, but sites can still run them so there's bound to be overlaps between 1 or 2. More organising a schedule then getting rid of them. So there's nothing to worry about. Well that's my take on it.		2012-04-18 16:19:00

Ok, let's cut to the chase since this situation has been hurting mostly everyone.
There has been a fracture between me and StevenI due to, let's call it "lack of communication and misunderstanding".
He asked me to wait the end of LBN Tribute contest (June 6th) to start LBPC8 because he wanted to start a new overall contest policy.
I didn't agreed and started behavin' like a b@stard posting teases to force his hand and let the Contest Crew publish the contest.
At the end StevenI finally allowed us to publish LBPC8 whenever we wanted.
I apologized, one week ago, but still today my apologies haven't been accepted thus I clearly saw that I'm not a welcomed person by MM staff, nor my work appreciated, so I resigned.
This created a swamped situation in the Crew, where my FRIENDS, Aya and shropshirelass are trying to compose this fracture.
I just got word from Aya today, sorry for bringing this to the pubblic, that the Crew feels awkward to release LBPC8 if things between StevenI and me are not solved and get me back in the crew.
Now...
I'm here to officially lift the Crew from every sense of responsability and care they feel towards me.
I can't stand to receive messages from Aya dated at 2 AM in the morning or from Lass at 4 AM.
WTF my friends, it's not right and I feel horribly guilty.
You're awesome friends, bless you, but I can't stand that you're going through this for me.
My friends come first.
The ones that got my back (too many to mention) come first.
As I can't stand that you kind people waitin' for the contest have to wait between the crap happening between 2 stubborn donkeys like me and StevenI.
That's not right and I feel bad for this.
So...I FINALLY RESIGN. I take a step back.
I'm out of the Crew.
Too many people suffers this situation and I don't want it.
So I apologise to you all people, it's my fault.

Well, i myself thought you did a great Job mate, and i respect your decision. I believe everything you have done was in the intrest of the Contest Crew and the LBP community and it is a sad day when its not recognised by the very makers of this game.

I also think you did a great job, and that's you who have made great progress for LBPC contests, and your impact on the atmosphere around the competitions is immeasurably and decisively. It is obvious that you have invested yourself in all this. This it just a biger blow to the contest cose theres none going on right now sure were creating for the other contest but haveing more than one gave us more to pick from.

I'm new to this forum but i did come here last year to be in contests. so i don't really know you but.it seems like you had a big job on your hands.

Now with you steping back whos handling the the contest are we still going to have as many or less.?

I think there is absolutely no need to apologize, especially since you did the honorable thing! Just so everybody knows, Aya was kind enough to bring representatives from the other sites into a private area on the forum and and currently LBPC, Planetarium, LBL, and LBN are having an discussion on the best way to move forward with crown competitions. I confirm this.
Bagheading, b-coli and EnochRoot are being very collaborative and awesome.
So, hopefully, if not soon, I'm sure that the best solution for the Community will be found.
Lots of brain is being used.
And in a friendly nice open minded way.
I hope you guys all start to consider that a "fansites war" is something that is not happening and won't happen.
Eventually this little stop we're facing will lead to bigger and more awesome things for you all in the future.
And a better overall mood for the whole Community in the future.

I'm trying to help too as an external counselor.
BUT...I state this clear, I'm not willing to work anymore in the Contest Crew unless the fracture between me and StevenI is mended.
