ZControl system: an easy-to-install set of logic to control your Zombie levels
Archive: 2 posts
I'm sure a lot of the huge jump in plays I had on my CodZ moon level came from people here looking in spotlight 82, and I'm sure many who played it noticed how glitchy it is right now, so about a month ago, I decided to start working on a control system for zombie levels that will heavily minimize glitches in gameplay and maximize ease of setup. What it is is a CPU of sorts that controls all core gameplay of CoD based zombie levels. It progresses and counts rounds, controls powerups, points, perks, doors, the mystery box, and barriers, (not special map-specific things, like the excavators on moon) and it's all wireless. It even uses a waypoint system to send idle zombies to a single point when a player is out of reach (like on a floor above it). It uses 'zones' to look at where players are on your map, and where / where not to spawn zombies at any given time. The zones concept minimizes the heavy lag you see in a lot of zombie levels due to tons of zombies at one time, and it also helps to prevent zombies from spawning in areas the player hasn't yet opened (this happens with the way my moon level is configured, it can force a restart when the player has no points and zombies are spawned behind locked doors). Since it's all wireless, and all the components- perks, barriers, the actual zombies, etc- communicate with the main CPU through tags, setup in your map is a breeze. No connecting wires. This also means that when I make updates to the system, all you'll need to do is swap the firmware version chip on the CPU (which will be an object) with the new version. This system does NOT build the map for you. It is the control system for your map. You have to actually build your map yourself. I will not make a copyable map complete with doors, spawners, etc. because I want no part of the copystorm on the coolpages. When this is released, it will be in two prize bubbles inside a non-copy demo level. I don't have any pics at the moment, but when I get home I'll get some and put them here. | 2012-04-03 19:30:00 Author: Eanikran Posts: 79 |
neat idea, i had to do something similar on my zombie maps. i didn't think of the whole wireless thing though, and it is cool that you are giving it to others. i don't really need it anymore though, i'm working on a different type of zombies thing. although lag was a problem i figured out a different way around that. I also have a level counter similar to Nazi zombies. unfortunately, it is taking a while to move over to my new ideas. the main thing that was wrong with my level is it was too cluttered and it made it difficult to survive wave 3... i never messed with perks but that's because i was trying to move away from the whole Nazi zombies thing and think up new stuff. if you want you can play my level and see all i did right/wrong and it may help you with your maps... maybe you can sway from call of duty as well, but hey, it is obviously successful, i'm not criticizing you. click on the links below if you are interested in playing my zombie stuff. i suggest that you start with the tutorial.
