Okay, so I came up with this neat idea for a mechanic that, instead of flying in a direction, this material set on fire instead would emit itself, selecting it with a live capture. I did this for visual effect more than anything, instead of it being a liniar shot it would be a spurt of fire followed one by another... I hit play and it worked!!! For 2 seconds and my game froze. Is this typical? EDIT: Also each piece only had a lifetime of .2 seconds so it didnt flood the game or anything.

I don't think that's typical, although freezes to happen. You might try capturing the object instead of live emitting, sometimes the live capture causes problems.

I went back in and tried something much more strenuous, basically 1 block with 3 emitters that are live edited to itself, so basically it would be Block^3, and it just said overheat. I guess it was just a ps3 issue afterall. I just got worried I'd ruin a level or my game by doing it which is why I asked. But then I got too curious.

You might try capturing the object instead of live emitting. That doesn't work. If you do that then you would need to recapture the object every time you wanted to emit or it would just do this: #5--#4--#3--#2--#1--empty

Yeah, I taught myself this method for "shapeshifting" originally, you can basically have the tag loop to create the opposite, then I decided to do it to itself and that works but ends up having some very un-predictable outcomes the more you mess with it....

Oh, I see now. Didn't get the part about shapeshifting before, and the need to live capture. I think it's a good idea to back up your profile quite often, because level destroying freezes can happen too. To be safe, I copy my backed up profile to my laptop periodically, just in case my PS3 were to die.
