Scrolling combat text, yes or no?

This is an opinion based question. I'm trying to decide if it's necessary for scrolling combat text to look official and complete enough? I'm changing the way damage is being handled, but in doing that I'll be able to add more complex mechanics but may make creating scrolling combat text too hard or take too much room. i would say it is not needed, you could just add a health bar with a counter or a timer (timer is more complex, but allows the player to heal) | 2012-04-04 01:36:00 Author: Unknown User |

If you're going to have a lot of enemies at once, then it may end up being too cluttered. If it's going to be mostly 1 on 1, then it might be a cool feature, but probably not be worth all the trouble. | 2012-04-20 03:43:00 Author: shane_danger Posts: 283 |
There will be 1v1 pvp, 2v2 pvp, boss fights and likely a lot of adds. I'm actually starting to think it's not a necessary feature as long as I explain what everyone's abilities are, so you know why something hits harder if it also heals you, simple stuff you might not always notice.
