Community Spotlight Episode 82

Welcome everyone to Episode 82 of the Community Spotlight. As ever, we have a great selection of levels for you to play and as ever, they will be featured in our ingame hub published by the cookie-loving Hubbie (http://lbp.me/u/LBPCentralHub).

We just wanted to let you all know that we?ve made a change to our policy as regards the Spotlight Hub. After giving it a lot of thought, we?ve come to the conclusion that the role of the hub should be to try and to give greater exposure to those levels featured in the Spotlight which need the plays ? which really need a ?spotlight?. As a result, from now on any level which has an MM Pick or which already has a very high play count will still be eligible to be included in the Spotlight thread but won?t get a slot in the hub. That way the plays which the hub gets will be spread amongst those levels with fewer plays to start with. We hope you all agree this is a change for the better. You may also have noticed that even within the hub we?ve left the central area for the levels with lower play counts and put the levels with a higher play count (usually 2,000 plus) off to the left a little. We would really appreciate your feedback on these changes and on any other aspects of the Spotlight.

Finally, we are delighted to see that some of the Japanese members here and their fellow creators have put together a Spotlight hub for Japanese levels. We think this is a great idea and are pleased to say that there will be a link to their first hub (http://lbp.me/v/e4phb6) in our hub (if that makes sense, lol! I need a cookie...)

http://ib.lbp.me/img/bl/32bf35456d968ec06b54f30e29f2dd7f8ecdff47.pngThe Goo RefinerySX_Shookie99 Where can you test the latest technology from Fusion Corp.? The Goo Refinery of course! Harness the power of the Goo Gun as you platform your way on walls, ceilings, across gaps, and other obstacles. Music by @0165_Vivaldi-NL

I don't think I'd want to visit a Goo Refinery in real life, unless of course it was designed by Shookie. This level is a true work of art. As I've come to expect from Shookie, the overall design and theme are amazing. Lots of gree goo oozing from pipes and down walls and plenty of small details to help tie it altogether. The gameplay is where it shines though. Leave it to Shookie to come up with a new idea on this cool new gameplay element that is the Attracto technology. Platform you're way through this marvelous goo filled level collecting combo after marvelous combo of those wonderful score bubbles, just be careful where you step, as pretty as the goo is, it is kind of corrosive. It's a great invention, the Goo Gun. One carefully aimed shot of Attracto-goo and for a brief 5 seconds you?re possessed of Spiderman-like abilities to walk on walls and ceilings, after which you?re returned unceremoniously to the ground...or more likely onto some strategically placed spikes! Shookie makes brilliant use of his goo mechanic, ringing the changes over a variety of obstacles and ramping up the difficulty nicely. You?ll have a blast chasing down those bubble combos and hidden test tubes of glowing green. Add some cool music and a grimy factory setting and you have a fun platformer packed with goo, inventiveness and yet more goo!

http://ia.lbp.me/img/bl/9fa828e39f06af03be8d076eb04cea4f84d83965.pngClash of the Burgers! (1-2P)ShamgarBlade Fight your friends in an epic battle between two burgers! Shoot down the ketchup and mustard to lead your burger to victory! **Now with SinglePlayer vs AI!**

I couldn't stop smiling and giggling while playing this highly unusual level. This has got to be the most unique versus level that I've had the pleasure to play. First, you choose which burger will be your champion. That's right, burger. As in Hamburger. Then you must control your burger's attacks by shooting the corresponding condiment, mustard or ketchup. Hitting the correct spice will propel your burger forward for an attack. I love all the details in this arena. The burgers themselves with their furrowed brows and big weightlifter arms, the dinner plate just waiting to catch the loser and all the ketchup and mustard splatters from previous burger bouts no doubt. Give this level a try see if it don't make you crack a smile.
This level gives a whole new meaning to the words ?food fight?! You?ll have a riot getting your burger to go head to head with your opponent?s burger and the ketchup and mustard will be flying everywhere. Great design and a hilarious concept make this level stand out from the crowd. So if you?re hungry for a fight or just like playing with your food, you?ll love this epic battle of the burgers. To quote a fellow spotlighter?s verdict on this level: ?Go ketchup! Err, I mean, ?cool game??!

http://ic.lbp.me/img/bl/7acff24e325b4db43f309564d6d12f5db9a066ae.pngWinnie the Pooh and The tree of honeySnakeOwl The tale in the Hundred Acre Wood. 100エーカーの森にあるプーさんの家とはちみつのある木が舞台です。special thanks by yu-kamone, tigger by hanakama, honey pod by keyqu, music by baile-flamenco, an English translation by kylee1220 and eustoma

One of my favorite storybook characters is brought to "life" in this incredible level by Snakeowl. Almost all the characters make an appearance in this well crafted platformer and the characters themselves are exquisitely designed. The level itself houses great gameplay, deploying unique contraptions and obstacles that are both visually appealing and fun to play on. So go on, let the kid in you come out and take a nice visit to the Hundred Acre Wood. With its wonderfully designed characters and fun gameplay this level really captures the charm of the Winnie the Pooh stories. It?ll bring back lots of fond memories as you meet first Pooh and then each of the other main characters from the stories, with poor old Eyeore typically getting the short straw as only as his bottom is featured - but of course no one would dream of swinging on his tail *cough* The gameplay is fun and varied and features plenty of bouncing (Tigger would be pleased), sticky honey and balloon rides. It's a sweet level with bags of visual appeal and great gameplay and as if that?s not enough, it's a real nostalgia trip to boot.

http://ia.lbp.me/img/bl/aca7392e19b6f32acf08f51ea6c287b4422dc60e.pngScrapy ard Falls nillrecurring Begin your journey into the unkown, maybe even to a desert perhaps, a hidden oasis, or both? Run, jump and grab your way through the forgotten and lost in time, and remember the joy you felt that few others have ever experienced before. Thanks to Arexion for the music and to all those who helped me along the way. (1 player recommended). Enjoy!

My initial response upon entering this lush environment was, "What the..?" You'll immediately be greeted by drool inducing visuals that are rich in detail and vibrant in color. There is a healthy variety in the gameplay mechanics with fast paced bubble collecting platforming and just casual run and jump, swing and bounce playtime. This is a beautiful and fun level that is sure to please.I entered this level expecting to see a rusting scrapyard and was amazed and delighted to find instead an oasis of luxuriant greenery and colourful flowers set amid undulating sand dunes. Reds, greens and yellows glow at you from all sides and are reflected in shimmering waterfalls. It's a gorgeous setting for some fast paced gameplay which has you hurtling past the jaw dropping scenery at speed as you hoover up the carefully placed bubbles and bounce and grab your way up the waterfall. The music by Arexion only adds to the great atmosphere. A true jewel in the desert that you?ll love to explore.

http://i5.lbp.me/img/bl/8f50cec247ee55f8d16bc1fa56aa03bafdc31953.pngThe Awesomesauce Land of Wild WillyFuzzbreeks Wild Willy's lost his pig! Adventure through this awesomesauce land in search of him, watch out for the guy in the loo though!!

I always loved the Canyon Theme in Little Big Planet 1. The Background, the red rock, the music, everything. Playing this level brought back wonderful memories of those levels. Fuzzbreeks has done a great job constructing an all around fun level. The characters are humorous, the visuals are terrific and the gameplay is a blast. An excellent platforming adventure well worth your time.Classic platforming and creativity at it's greatest. FuzzBreeks has created a wonderfully cheeky world filled with great canyon themed visuals, and fun gameplay. Even if you don't like platformers, this is one level you shouldn't miss.

http://ie.lbp.me/img/bl/6aeb3c7855fdb251db081386291c621394f70f2c.pngHoney World Story (Platformer)yu-kamone Again approaching a crisis in the Honey World. Let`s save the Honey World in cooperation with the bees!

Bees are fascinating little creatures. The way they work, the way they produce honey, they way they'll protect the queen, the way they can kill me with their tiny stingers because of my allergy. They really are quite remarkable. This level is quite remarkable as well! You really get the sense that you have traveled deep within the bee kingdom. Rich golden honey drips and clings to everything in sight, making for some "sticky" platforming. Ha Ha! couldn't resist. The gameplay is amazing though and too many times to mention you will be saying, "Wow!" Go play it, you'll see. Yu-kamone has created something both beautiful and fun to play with Honey World Story (Platformer). There's been plenty of beehive levels in LBP but this one feels fresh with the use of attract-o-gel. And you've probably guessed it, the place is flooded with honey which creates plenty of opportunities to scale the walls and make your way through this sticky and sometimes dangerous place. But it's not all as sweet as honey, there's one big, bad bee at the end and it won't let you go without a fight. Yu-kamone has created a sweet feast of a level almost as full of great platforming ideas and good gameplay as it is dripping with sticky honey and that?s saying something. Suffused with a lovely golden light and with honey oozing from every crevice, the hive is beautiful but danger lurks at its heart and it's your task to seek it out. Some wonderful insects come to your aid: bees give you a helpful lift across a chasm, a spider lays down bouncy webs to protect from spikes but it's still down to you to defeat the fearsome Wasp King. An awesome level which is a sweet treat from beginning to end.

http://i0.lbp.me/img/bl/300adaa4a41fdb4afcb5aa387c666edb00aff523.pngLa Casa de las Rosas L1GhTmArE Welcome to the House of Roses! Travel and search through the manor and try to uncover all thats hidden. There are 15 secrets, 3 extras and 3 optional races (after obtaining a sticker) and bonuses for them all for you score and secret hunters! Happy Gadding! [Easy/Medium Difficulty] 1-2 players. More players might make it more difficult. *Big thanks to my bro Psyntens for help with roof design and to Leklack for the mower design*

This level just reeks....of Awesome! I don't see how he does it. L1ghtmare. How he comes up with imaginative and unique gameplay with every new level published. The simple beauty of this level is, that once you start peeling back the layers, you'll find that it's really not as simple as it looks. The gameplay can be challenging, but always fun as there is a healthy variety of play style involved. Click the link, queue the level and see if you can discover all the secrets in The House of the Roses.
L1ghtmare strikes again with another level that can make your eyes drool. The mansion hidden away in the garden is full of wonderful, inventive gameplay, and hosts 3 different secret difficulty levels to make your mandatory second, third, or even fourth playthrough extremely rewarding and fun. If you haven't already, set your Pod controls for La Casa de las Rosas, and give your platforming sweet-tooth another treat.
Well, the other reviewers have said it all really. I have nothing to add other than that I simply loved exploring this happy, sunlit world with its dancing butterflies, beautiful roses and majestic trees. I loved the way L1ghtmare wove the gameplay in and out of the layers, winding backwards and forwards through the gracefully aging buildings with their mellow red brickwork and wooden roofs and I loved...pulling apart every brick and plank of wood in search of those elusive ?impossible? secrets! Great visuals, great gameplay and super-addictive fun all round, what more could you ask for.

http://ib.lbp.me/img/bl/9db71624a6acf678bafe35b87d976a68f639f025.pngLittle Big Adventure ..::Uprooted::.. Part 2 (1P Recommended)stryder12 (1P ONLY DUE TO LAG AND LVL LINK) Welcome back to Uprooted! You awake trapped and abandoned and are forced to find your way through a magestic forest, however, watch your step as this journey is filled with various challenges and unique platforming. Special thanks to Mastablastya who created the wondeful music that set the scene of the levels.

The moment the opening cinematics begin, you know you're in for something special. As you start playing and traveling through this rich atmosphere, you find that it's truly easy to get lost in the majesty of your surroundings. The gameplay is amazing as well with plenty of cool contraptions to occupy you. And the details! Wow, the details in here were amazing! Go play this level and be blown away yourself. Indulge yourself in top-of-the line visuals, and great platforming in this jaw dropping level By Stryder12. Waking up in a cage. and being struck by lightning doesn't sound like too much fun, but I assure you, the platforming accompanying the amazing visuals is not to be taken lightly. Stryder manages to keep the level's difficulty spot on within the adverage younger age group, but while also keeping it a challenge for the older players. Great work Stryder, I cannot wait for what you have in store for us next. With this level Stryder12 takes you to another world, one rich in beauty and atmosphere. You travel through lush forests dappled with sunlight and full of strange and wonderful contraptions. Watch your step, though, for there are traps and challenges for the unwary traveller. The mysteries deepen the further you journey into this extraordinary land. Gorgeous visuals, inventive gameplay and some great music make this an adventure you won?t want to miss!

http://ic.lbp.me/img/bl/88cb6684e03326c0bf200e77060ffd42a297df39.pngShadow s [1 PLAYER ONLY]SlurmMacKenzie More an idea than a real level. It's really short and does not feature a lot of gameplay, but I loved the concept so much I couldn't leave this one on my moon. I hope you'll enjoy it though I'm using the awesome 1 player logic from ninjamicwz so thanks a lot to him for sharing it!

Double Dang Slurm! Dang son, how'd you do this!? Spectacular level! Holy Crap! Buh, Buh, Buh, Buh. These are just some of the incoherent things I was saying when I saw this extraordinary level. This gameplay is completely and utterly unique in LBP and Slurm pulls it off brilliantly. To be able to give the impression that your sackboy is walking on shadows and interacting with that environment is simply amazing. Go play this level whilst I go get something to wipe up all this drool.Holy crap, the "Concept" Slurm has created has you clinging to your shadow like its your new best friend as you jump, swing, pull, and avoid the various shadows of the level IN FRONT OF YOU, to progress in the background. This jaw-dropping concept apparently isn't even a level though, according to Slurm. To that I say NAY! What are you waiting for, Slurm!? We need more shadowy goodness!

PSP Spotlight

A Bubbly End.Valmassoihttp://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff393/valmassoilbpc/IMG_5613.jpgJoin Sackboy in the conclusion of the greatest search of bubbles in Little Big Planet history. After a long nap, Sackboy arrives at his final destination - the scoreboard. Part 4 of 4.

A great level that ends a great series. "A Bubbly End" features Val's signature massive bubble chains and combos, as well as the complementary marvelous scenery and gameplay typical, in a good way, to nearly all of Valmassoi's levels. "A Bubbly End" ends the series with a bang, and may just be the best of the four. Please do yourself a favor and give val's latest level a play as soon as possible. "Val does so much work for the Spotlight that it's often hard to remember that this is a creator who can also create some of the most frantic levels in lbp psp. However then a level like this comes out and we all stop, take a deep breath and prepare for the bubbley onslaught of hundreds of plays to get a remotely average score. Val doesn't dissapoint with yet another crazy, well decorated level that'll have you replaying over this easter period.
Deceit: NostalgiaSackboy7789http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m597/sackboy7789/snap001-1.jpgAfter awakening in a strange land, Two beings, Truth and Betrayal, find you and take to to a land of memory. Truth can help you and betrayal will hurt you, but who is who?

It's been a slow couple of years on the PSP side. But every now and then, a simply outstanding level will released. Sackboy7789's Nostalgia: Deceit is crafted beautifully in every aspect: aesthetically, gameplay-wise, story-wise; I could go on and on. I literally smiled multiple times and in the end, felt honored to play it.I could tell you to play this for the story; it's certainly well thought out and engaging, but I'm not going to. I could rave about the beautiful visuals that appear at every turn, but that's not my style. Perhaps you expect to here about how much I love the gameplay because of its fun-factor and replayability, but that wouldn't do this justice either. Instead I'm going to focus on the way all of these aspects are not just fantastic but all interact in a way that the psp hasn't seen for a while, and leave the rest up to surprise you when you play this gem.
Russian RocksNysudyrghhttp://oi44.tinypic.com/11c5taq.jpgBehold, my new epic creation, Russian Rocks, a platformer set in the wilderness, with tons of bubbles and combos for you to get.

With the cold, dreary palette and the well made gameplay, the wilderness is my favourite area in LBP1. Nys perfectly remakes this chilly atmosphere and wraps it up in a sugar coated bubble-driven level. Go grab your fuzzy jacket and download this instant classic!Russian Rockets is actually the opposite of how it sounds. It's neither uninviting or chilly, although the excellent visuals certainly portray this. Neither is it yammering in a different language, contrary it speaks to me on so many levels. Oh and what's not to love about a level that gives Val a run for his money with bubble combos?

Awesome. i been almost out of levels to play.... though i already played some of these... ohwell. better something then nothing. and yeah i don't mind MM picks not being put in to the hub. MM picks are the most easy levels to find on LBP anyways. xD plus i've not been enjoying 70% of the MM picks lately myself... but whateverz~ *mew2012-04-01 17:49:00

As always, a high-quality spotlight! Focusing on the less-played levels is a good idea according to me. The reason that I check theese spotlights is to find new levels I haven't played, not to see cool page level after cool pages level which get enough attention anyway.2012-04-01 18:25:00

Great job guys.

Edit: Oh btw, I like the idea about not featuring the highly played levels in the hub. Anything that gets unknown creators more attention is something that I will support!

You guys never cease to amaze me with your spotlighted picks as well as the honourable mentions. Well done and keep them coming. As for the levels with little plays getting more attention, I definitely am all for that. I've seen some pretty kool levels with under a hundred plays just to say "Why". Doing this will definitely be supported by me if not all of the community. Thanks again guys and gals2012-04-01 22:11:00

Wow! I'm surprised to see another wonderful Spotlight posted so quickly, and I'm also pleasantly surprised to notice that my work has received a mention. My sincere thanks goes out to the Spotlight Team. It's also very nice to see that a link to the Japanese LiBitsmate Hub has been provided. Quality Creators everywhere, deserve a chance to have their work recognized and appreciated. As would be expected, I'm all for the new direction the Community Spotlight is headed in.2012-04-02 01:34:00

Thanks for the spotlight, its always encouraging when your first LBP2 level makes it into the spotlight, the idea of focusing the spotlight onto unkown creators is a great idea, it should give a fair chance to everyone. Got some great levels to queue, and I'm sure looking forward to playing them 2012-04-02 03:35:00

Your level with its 11k plays will be waaaaaaay off to the side... In the shadows one could say.

Today marks the first time that Community Picks news is featured globally in the LittleBigPlanet newsfeed!

What this means is that across the world, everybody will be able to see the news in their native language.
(Except Asia currently but I'm already chasing up this issue.)

As opposed to previously, where the news would only be displayed in English for people playing an English copy of the game.

So today is definitely a good day for the global LittleBigPlanet community!

I'm suprised and glad to see my level in the showcase, it is probably because of your new policy.

Thanks, it's good to see a hard work rewarded

Levels of quality will always get Spotlighted, but what the new set up does is make sure that lesser played levels are given the most attention in the hub.

Cool Spotlight! Thanks crew for bringing us another one. Congrats to Shookie, L1ghtmare, and Slurm. All great levels. I'll be sure to check out the rest. In regards to the hub. I'm sure you guys are well aware that the levels placed immediately around the entrance will get the most plays beyond that it's anyones guess if the hub helps them out a little or a lot. I think its cool for those with only a little bit of plays. So I guess its a good way to go from now on. But now with the spotlight feed going global in every language I find myself hoping I don't get that many plays on my new stuff so I can be featured in the hub. :-)2012-04-03 01:47:00

@G-Gilgamesh-G it looks like Biorogue has given you some great pointers in your Level Showcase thread, and that's the place to start

All very good points, the second area to the right houses the high play levels, the hub will be omitting Mm Picks and levels with insanly high playcounts compared to the rest of the hub. However they will still be Hearted by Hubbie.

If Hubbie refuses.. Well, let's just say we have ways of making that sackperson comply. Usually it involves removing their cookie ration.

Just a quick question. I've noticed this page - http://spotlight.lbpcentral.com/.

Is this now redundant, or are there plans to update it?

That was being maintained by v0rtex (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?3443-v0rtex), who seems to be MIA.

Thanks for the two honourable mentions. Glad to see people enjoy my work. As for the spotlight, thanks for the levels.. but ****..i already have 92 freakin levels in my queue! College makes catching up in this game a chore!!!

Also...the honourable mention seemed to attract a lot of young trolls to my levels...anyone else have this problem? I had a little girl just play my level and write "Bad" and frowny face it. Bad?! I spent 100+ hours on it little girl! ..Grrr......

Woo got honorable mention!
I still have a bunch of them to play, but you guys never miss the mark on picking epic stuff to spotlight.

I think that is the price of fame, I've got some downrates too. Look at MM picks, there some awesome levels which get some thousand downrates. probably kids who don't know how long and hard create a good level is or some jalous people. Just ignore them

Before the honorable mention 90 play
Today: 281 play

That's awesome, tanks again !

i've been trying to get noticed in the spotlight, and since then my levels have done very well, hope the new policy dosent classify me now as too good, my first submission got 1000 plays, last weeks submission got 14,000,

either way no responce from this site 8(

^^ With a play count of 14k if your latest level happens to be chosen for Episode 83, then it would be listed in the thread, but not included in the hub.

either way no responce from this site 8(

While the showcase thread is for sharing your levels, it isn't just about getting your level played, forum members are not just level playing robots there to increase your play count.

If you want more participation from the forum, then participate more in the forums. Utilise F4F and play other peoples levels, leave great feedback and you may find that with each response from you in other people's showcase thread it changes the lack of responses in your thread.

so if a level does well, it can't get a hub spot, not sure i like this policy change, too bad for me huh, my skills just tipped from low to high, and now i'm probably too good to get in the hub 8(, btw i posted 2 levels for submission, one got 14k the other got 6k, is my worse one eligible
