Emitted object possibility
Archive: 7 posts
Hey guys! As I Am abroad and can?t play LBP, I have alot of time to think. And I get SUPERMASTABLASTA idea for a level. Just a pure platforming. No cinematics, no story. But there?s one necessary thing I need to know to realize the idea ( and I can?t try it by myself now). Simply....is it possible to emitt certain object (block of rock) exactly in place where sackboy, or sackbot stand (so he gets crushed)??? I think it's impossible, but maybe someone would know the magic :-) Thanks... | 2012-03-28 10:17:00 Author: Unexpecter Posts: 137 |
No, it's not possible. He will block the emit... at least as long as you are trying to crush him. You can easily emit a hazardous piece of hologram or sticker panel and it will work as you've suggested. They do not have a physical presence, and thus cannot be blocked by anything. | 2012-03-28 15:15:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
You could try emitting it slightly above the sackperson, high enough so it emits. Then have a mover bring it down on top of the sackperson really fast so it seems as if it were emitted on the sackperson? I don't know if that works, and if it does, I don't know if it would look good. It's worth a try though. | 2012-03-28 20:25:00 Author: Wolffy123 Posts: 406 |
compher: Unfortunetely i need to emit those physical object. But I can try to emit hazardous holo, then let it disappear and emit an object. And that all in 0,1 sec. But I don't know if this 0,1 sec won?t cause any sort of unwanted lag, or something. Have to try it and I can?t...that?s hell :-DD Wolfy123: Not bad idea either, but this won?t work with the concept as there?ll be some very tiny places, not big enough to emit object above head. But thanks! And one more thing: If I emit HUGE and complicated object (for example 1/3 thermo), is it better to emit it whole, or split it to three parts and emit each by a single emitter? I mean in speak of lag... | 2012-03-30 09:10:00 Author: Unexpecter Posts: 137 |
How about a combination of the two above ideas? Emmit a sticker panel decorated to look as a rock or anything and while the sack is covered on it, emit a thick (z-wise*) but thin enough (y-wise*) and long enough (x-wise*) rock or metal material, with a strong-fast mover on it that forces it down which will squash the sack?.... ... Yikes! On a second thought, it sounds quite mean.... Can't check it either, just in theory. * Cartesian speaking : p * You have to emit this object?...hmm.. Not sure... You can emit the aforementioned holo and have in front of it a thin piece that covers the space maybe? | 2012-03-30 10:35:00 Author: zupaton Posts: 167 |
This thread is in the right direction for a solution. Emit a small block of hologram/sticker, turned to gas. This will eliminate the sackboy/bot** it was emitted upon. The chip on this block contains an inverted player sensor that will notice that a sackboy is no longer in place (or a tag sensor that listens for the a sackbot tag). Set a limited radius to this sensor. It will then activate an emitter of its own that spits out a stone object in its place. ** In case of using a bot, the setup can become much simpler by just having a tag sensor on the bot listening for a tag in order to destroy itself. You can then destroy the gas block in two ways: 1) the emitted stone contains a dedicated tag; you have a tag sensor on the gas block that detects this and activates a destroyer on itself. 2) the signal on the gas block that activates the stone emitter is also wired to a piece of logic that delays the signal for 1 frame, after which it will activate a destroyer. A common way to delay a signal for 1 frame is by using a selector: http://i.imgur.com/MHG1Q.png In case you ever need specific frame delays, add more ports to the selector and wire each port output to the input of the next port; the last output goes to the followup action. The first input/output, the selector's default, is always empty. Each additional port to the 3 displayed here adds another frame of delay.) | 2012-03-30 12:36:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
I would go with Antikris' solution for this one. | 2012-03-31 02:19:00 Author: Wolffy123 Posts: 406 |
