For the first one....I was also wondering that.

And for the second. On most objects/materials/tools if you press square on the object, a few options will pop up. A lot of objects in your pop-it have the "Tutorial" option. Click that and you'll be able to see tutorials. Even some tutorials that you dont HAVE to complete to get started will be there. Complete all the tutorials and you get a trophy.

Just set the piston's behavior setting to "Directional" . The piston will extend as long as the switch connected to it is activated.2009-01-01 23:09:00

First:

Create switch for piston. Set settings as one time directional.

Second:

If the "Next tutorial" button's gone there's still a couple tutorials left. Go to the tool bag and select an item such as a switch or something. Click square on it for a menu and somewhere it should say something like "play tutorial".

Hope this helps

I just want to mention your title is MAJORLY misleading. People will come in to help you with your problems without having to dramatize your thread title. A clear "Need help with pistons & tutorials" would be much more appropriate.2009-01-01 23:15:00

I put asap because my level is on right now and id like to finish it soon, anyways, how do i change it then?2009-01-01 23:17:00

First:

Create switch for piston. Set settings as one time directional.

That's not how one time works.

Here's how you accomplish what you want:

Put a grab switch on whatever it is. Set that switch to on/off. Now make some dark matter elsewhere, and some dissolve on top of that. Put a magnetic key switch on the dark matter and a magnetic key on the dissolve. Make the key switch directional. Now hook the grab switch to the dissolve, and the mag key switch to the piston, and there you go!

Hrm bass i dont quite understand. wouldnt that just make it so its moving the whole time and grabbing the switch stops it?

Edit: what settings do i put on the piston?

Its called a permanemt switch. It can only be activated once and it will do what you are asking.

The settings would be as normal on the piston. The grab switch should be one shot and the mag key switch as directional.

Ok, I tried it and what happened was, as soon as a started the level the ship just moved down. BUT! while reading another post i found an idea. what i did was i took a cube of dark matter and put a magnetic switch on it then i put a bunch of dissolve material on the top thats rigged to the grab switch, then on top i have a wood block with a magnetic key set with the setting you guys said. SOOO when i grab the grab switch it dissolves the dissolve and the wood block falls on top of the dar matter so the key touches the switch causing it to move once! thanks for your help 2009-01-01 23:51:00

Yeah, that's called a Permanent Switch, there's a few levels out there that give it away as a prize so you don't have to constantly make them and they're pretty small so they don't take up much space.2009-01-02 00:08:00

Isnt that what bass said to do already?

EDIT: Never mind... Bass said put the key on the dissolve instead of on a block on top of it.

Hmm.. there is an invert option on magnetic switches, right? You can do what BassDeluxe said, putting the Key on dissolve. Just invert the switch after that. If the key is in the switch radius, it will be off; if the key is gone it will be on.
Since you're using directional, you could also invert the piston instead. No need to get complicated.
I recommend my switch level (see sig) since it seems like you haven't heard of many custom switches yet.

Ironically enough I've made a level about the first problem, Dr Spongehead's How to make a permanent switch (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6077).

It not only shows you how to do the exact same thing you are asking, it goes into the why it's so, breaking it down into detail so you can understand the theory behind it.

I've included a prize bubble which shows the system, which you can fiddle around with in your own create mode.

I hope it helps.

Ok, let me know if I'm not making sense.
You need the Piston you want to power, a winch(IMPORTAINT: NOT a piston), a three-way swich, and a two way swich(though a button will work)
Set up the three-way swich somewhere where the player won't see it. Set it to directional and connect it to the Piston. Try it out to make sure it works and to see what direction you want it to move. Once the piston is moving in the right direction, check what side you'r player is on. Add the winch to that side by connecting the grab material on the swich to the side of the base. Increase max lenght by 20 and decrease min lenght by 5s untill the piston moves. Place the two-way swich where you want it, set it to directional, and connect it to the winch.

What happens:The two way swinch Is off, the winch is longer than the distance from one end to the other, so the three way swich is neutral. When you pull the two way swich, the winch gets shorter, and pulls the three way swich. Therefore, the piston moves. So when you pull the two way swich, the piston moves, when you let go, the piston stops and doesn't return.

EDIT: AUGH!!! I was too late!

Most people responded yesterday.

I don't quite follow your solution though. It sounds like a very complex set up for what can be done by a simple permanent switch system. He just wants a piston to move once if I understand correctly.

Set the piston to directional.
Connect the piston to a magnetic key switch.
Have the key ontop of dissolvable material with the key switch below- the one you connected to the piston.
The have another switch(what you want the sackboy to take effect on for the piston to move) and connect it to the dissolvable material-the one in between the key and the key switch.
Then, when the sackboy takes effect on the switch, it dissolves the dissolvable material, taking the key switch into action, turning on the piston in one direction forever!
*note. You may have to invert the magnetic key switch if the piston is the wrong way forever...

Hope this helped.

I know, I completely Misunderstood what he wanted.
The setup I have is (Essentially) A cross between a Permanent Swich and a Two-way swich, In that it only moves in one direction when the swich is pulled and not move at all when the swich is not pulled.

Simple solution: Make a permanent switch (block of dissolve, on top of a block of dark matter, key on the dissolve, and key switch on the darkmatter, and invert it) trigger a switch which dissolves the key, which turns on the permanent switch, and the piston will go to where you want it to, and you can invert the piston if it does not go in the way you want it to.

Cheers!
