Playing bad levels for fun

Archive: 21 posts

Do you ever play really crappy levels for fun? That's what I spent a lot of time in LBP doing. Playing really bad levels with friends for amusement. Most of the time we search a random franchise (ex. Spongebob, Mario, Sonic). Bad levels can be a comedy gold mine! You can find all sorts of hilarious things in them, such as really bad character models. How can you not laugh at these?

(That's Charizard by the way.)

And then, there's also the amazing lines of dialogue. Here's a bunch of lovely lines we've encountered:
"go bey"
"we had great time"
"u die now soinc"
Squidward randomly screaming "I HATE YOU"
"help me out jail!"
"TAIL HUASE"
"aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"
"no my car"
"Plain Krapy with cheese on table no.4 Plain Krapy patty with lettuce on table 2"

So who else does this? I'm sure some of you are like "This level sucks and they must improve it by having more platforming, fixing their grammar yada yada fdhdjdfgj" when you play these, but I look at them as quality entertainment.

oh man... i really don't know what to say to this. these people you are laughing at spend hours and hours making these and got great pleasure from doing so. they are part of our community and deserve respect. please, please remove this thread. we should never laugh at other people's attempts, we should be glad they tried and help them out. that dialogue is clearly written by someone whose first language isn't English and that's even more offensive to me than the pics. this goes against everything i love this site for

when you have a child (if you haven't already got one) and he/she brings something they made at school home for you. put it on the mantelpiece and invite all of your friends to laugh at it. and after you've seen how it makes them feel, delete this thread

While I concur somewhat with you, I think that sometimes people actually just don't try to make good levels. Sometimes they're actually trying, sometimes they are just plain lazy, and I can't really tell the difference between the two. If you want comedic relief from a bad level, but want to make sure your not laughing at an honest hard try, just play levels from the worst level contest.2012-03-23 18:42:00

we can never know whether it's just laziness though. how do we know we're not laughing at someone who is disabled or someone who is really young. i just can't bring myself to do that.

Come on, we all have our own sense of humor. Besides, I always leave positive feedback on what's funny. We always yay the levels that make us laugh the hardest.

Yup, I think it's totally fine to get a chuckle out of this...funny is funny, doesn't matter who created it or how much effort was put into it. It's not like you are laughing at them...they're probably estastic just to get the play.

Delicate flowers that don't want their efforts judged by people that don't know them shouldn't publish. As for non-English speakers, while I appreciate their efforts, it doesn't mean I'm not going to be amused when they misspell their level title or use a really awkward phrase...I'm not made of stone!

Since when is the LBP community so politically correct anyway?

Give me a break, it's the efforts of an anonymous individual in the public domain. It has nothing to do with respect or disrespect; since the creator is anonymous the work can only be judged on its merits and it's completely fair to do so.

Your response to lemurboy was blowing things way out of proportion...loosen up, maybe you'll live to reach my age.

Hey lemurboy, try searching for Avatar (Last Airbender) levels, there are some Appa's out there that I guarantee will have you rolling on the floor.

I also think some people are taking this a bit too seriously. First off, it's a game, which should not be taken so seriously on its own. It's supposed to be fun. I think people deserve to have freedom of opinion, as long as it isn't too much of an embarrassing derision. To me, it looks like Lemurboy has been careful not to be too rude. He's left the creators anonymous, didn't name the levels, and even left positive feedback. I do agree that it could be some two-year-old we're giggling at here, but it's not like we're trying to hurt them. Learn to laugh in life--how many times have you chuckled at one of your friends silly drawings or work? Tell me you didn't smirk at least.
Yeah, it does make me feel a bit guilty to laugh though. I mean this could be something someone worked very hard on. It's not like it's completely evil, it's just a bit mischievous. I'm not so sure that it deserves to be taken down, or that it's the equivalent of crushing a little child's dreams, but I do think we should be polite when sharing our opinions about these kinds of levels. If they're intentionally bad, then fire away.
And about word mistakes, I played an Assassin's Creed level a long while ago with my brother. The badge was the title, but only three certain letters were framed. Let's just say it rhymes with "pass". :hero:

I don't like playing these kinds of levels (super MARO MOTO, for example) because they're bad, but because they're usually unpolished and untested and anything can happen. That's really fun sometimes, especially with friends (For example, when I played super MARO MOTO and started clumsily tumbling down a hill because of the gravity, I actually started laughing out loud. That's the kind of stuff I used to try to create)!

Also they remind me of the very early days of LBP1, when standards for a good level weren't so high. Kind of a nostalgia-type thing. Back when LBP1 first came out, TheMonkeyBlade and I would search random things like "Spiderman", or "Zelda" and just play levels for hours having fun no matter how well built they were.

I like those kinds of levels that aren't necessarily good, but you can tell the creator tried. Reminds me of the first levels I created, and they tend to have fresh, new ideas, they just have some trouble putting it together sometimes.

(Plus, you gotta admit: Mario on a motorcycle is an awesome idea)

Reminds me of a really bad bible level I played back in LBP1. You played as Jesus and went around turning water to wine, feeding bread and fishes to people and walking on water. That kind of thing. It was bloody awful...really badly made and looked scruffy as hell.

It was my most frequently played level on my hearted list.

Actually, I think you're taking it to a whole new level. You're kind of perceiving it as some kind of evil act and that they are ridiculing the creators. They are saying that the levels are silly and a bit sloppy, but they aren't saying horrible things about them. There aren't even anymore pictures. If they could see it, they would probably comment by now. It really just looks like they're describing funny levels they've played before. Look at Klaww's comment. He says they're fun because unexpected things can happen. I don't know, sounds like a compliment to me. I can understand where you're coming from though, but what you said just sounds like a bit more than what they're doing.

i know what this thread set out to do, and i know that it was done in all innocence, but i just find it distasteful. we are being asked to laugh at peoples lack of imagination, their lack of artistry and their inability to write the English language well. don't dismiss that off hand as PC, consider it in light if what we promote on this site2012-03-24 11:56:00

Hey Gribble, I thought of a new alias for you, it's DebbieDowner.

One of the ways I find these is, if you have someone with you, you each pick a random word...and the host searches for it.
Eyeball Garden, anyone?

Now I want to do this so much.

I often find them just by going on "Newest Levels". Here's some results:

While we encourage the posting of constructive feedback on other people's creations, that's not what's going on here. The OP seems more like a cheap laugh aimed at those who are less skilled at creating.

To me, it feels analagous to posting a picture of someone in a wheelchair, with the words "Haha. This guy can't walk." underneath it, and this is not the sort of behavior we would want to encourage on LBPC, so...

Locked.
