LBP Karting- Could a better game come off this?

Archive: 7 posts

Ok, so we've probably all seen or heard about the new game, LBP karting, similar to Modnation Racing but with more of an LBP twist to it.

If not (Or just to watch the trailer again), here is the video-

But I was thinking, why not develop off the idea? A 3rd LBP could be made, LBP3D. Just like LBP2, but a full 3D world (like on LBP karting), with 3rd person, and a few new features. The possibilities could be insane, we could completely remake games; make anything we wanted at all.

The only problem with this is- It will probably be very difficult to code.

So, what do you guys think?

Perhaps the karting game is a testbed for exactly that: LBP with full 3D modelling.

I'm not sure it's as difficult to code as it is to present it in a way that isn't overwhelmingly complicated for the player. In 3D modelling programs there are generally controls for changing the origin of an object, setting pivot points to rotate objects around, moving, rotating and scaling objects along a single axis along with tens of other basic controls you'll often use. How do you map these functions to a controller well?

So I didn't see anything about the "Create" aspect in that trailer. I really hope it has a create mode.2012-03-23 05:32:00

United front is not an AAA developer.
Hell, the trailer had framerate drops.
I bought ModNation and maybe it's the game in my collection that gathered more dust.

Yeah, I think that a 3D LBP could come off of this too. If it IS another LBP though, it might not be for a while, because Mm is busy working on their non-LBP related game. It'd be really cool to create things in a 3D space.2012-03-24 10:50:00

That could be resolved with an ability to toggle which way you turn your held object. For example, the Right stick R button could be used to toggle between X, Y and Z axis rotation and could have a few more modes like flip and resize.

It does have create mode. If you read the Wikipedia about it, it says this.

Similar to other games in the series, user-generated content will play a pivotal role in the game's gameplay style using the series' "Play, Create, Share" motto. Users can customise their Sackboy as well as his karts and create their own tracks...

I didn't see any frame rate drops when I watched it. Might be youtube lag? I'll watch it again to make sure.

If MM can control UFG's Impulse to simplify create mode too much, then yes, it can be very successful.2012-03-24 12:37:00
