WOW! Check out that awesome artwork! Starting with episode 13 we have a nice look to the podcast thanks to Bludhound from LittleBigLand! Big thanks to him for making such incredible artwork for the podcast :-D

But that's not why I am posting. I am posting to let you know that Episode 13 of Pocket Moon Podcast is now live and it features jwwphotos, who you may be familiar with because he heads up the Creator's Spotlight and Caption Contest at LBPC, and he also has some great levels out there!

On Episode 13 you will hear us chatter about Checkpoint Preferences, Playing with Non-Forum LBP Friends, a bit more about Pancakes vs. Waffles, Mass Effect 3, and much more.

As usual, you can listen to Pocket Moon Podcast many different ways. From now on I will be including these links near the top of each podcast post so that people can just start downloading without scrolling through all of this rambling. These links look like this:

Journey is worth every penny... here's my take on the game:

From the heat of childhood dreams,
To the dark of aspirations lost.
Through the journey we seek out hope,
Fight on through the chilling frost

Within us, if that spirit lives,
Wisdom springs, a flame is sent
And guides us to that blinding light;
The freedom of enlightenment

BUY IT!!!

@Cory: Wow, you replied so fast :-) Thanks for checking out the podcast! We're excited to hear what you think about this episode.

@GribbleGrunger: Maybe I can convince Mrs. Poo to let me get it using your take on the game...

Listening on soundcloud!

jdubs makes an awesome guest You guys are very funny together

Still haven't had a chance to listen to ep 12...... *redface*

RE: Journey - it is ridiculously overpriced, but at the same time is a beautiful experience. I loved every moment of it - and there were a few moments which were actually WOW, breathless moments that I'll remember. How likely I am to replay though.... meh.... depends. I probably should have waited for the cut price version too!

Star wars kinect looks ridiculously bad..... I watched the video on mute while I was listening to you guys and it just looked.... bad...... I'm a minor star wars fan, and it even offended me!

For some reason, hearing j-dubs say LPB all the time made me giggle.....

RE: Creator Spotlights!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY! So excited to hear about the return of this feature! I wonder who'll be featured first? Can't wait to find out

RE:

-----

A question for you guys, as it's something that's in my mind quite a bit lately, do you agree with the idea that LBP is, to all intensive purposes, a monster?

Let me explain....

Someone told me (smasher) a long time ago, that LBP is a monster, which will eat up your gaming life, chew it a bit, spit it out and then proceed to get started on your personal and professional lives for dessert. I was a little dismissive of it at first, I have to admit (this was about a year ago.......) but as time's gone by I've started to realise just how true it is.

Yes, LBP is 'just a game', but as so many others say (and I agree) it is also a form of expression, and with a community to boot. Heck, over the past year or so I've found that I myself was the new meal for the beast.... and I'm only just starting to untangle myself from it's teeth. I tried very hard to resist its charms, but it was so hard to NOT get stuck in to community projects and get... well if I admit, more than a little addicted to create mode. Before I know it, I have a huge stack of games next to me, yet to be played. Silly really, but it's something I see happening to lots of other people too.

Do you guys (or anyone else for that matter) have any thoughts on this?

BUY IT!!!Epic poetry win! I had to double check your username to make sure you weren't moonwire.

jdubs makes an awesome guest You got that right - he's just as fun to chat with as it sounds. The last time we I had to record a 30 second video footage with him it took about 2 hours because we just started talking about games, and cars, and general goofing around... Fun stuff.

Still haven't had a chance to listen to ep 12...... *redface*Don't worry, you are forgiven. You need to listen to it at the very least for Simon's reaction to the Kinect video, and also for his tirade about the level review he received. LOL

I've got the podcast queued up for an early morning long drive tomorrow . Looking forward to hearing how things turn out.

I want to second both the sentiment and the question request.

For me when LBP came out and up until maybe a year ago I was full tilt in Create mode and found that my appetite for other games had dried it.

It worked wonders for my budget as I wasn't actually buying games as I used to as I was always getting wrapped up in multi-month create episodes tailed by recuperative weeks of Play sessions.

I was wrapped up in some type of LBP cocoon that I poured most of my free game time into and watched in envy as interesting, fun games came out that I knew I wasn't going to be able to play. I went through long stretches of daily create sessions that stretched in the early AM and the inevitable compounded sleep deprivation.

It got to the point where I needed to back away from the game long enough for the fever to subside, play some other games and enjoy leisurely evenings again. I still tread carefully in LBP create so that I don't relapse and get sucked back into another binge of monthly late-night creating.

It is hard, wanting to be a part of the community but also keeping an arm's length from it at the same time.

There are a lot of great points in LBP from the expression and fulfillment of creative and artistic endeavors to the community feedback and interaction from like-minded addicts. There is challenge and discovery, validation and the ever-present novelty and innovation to gawk at.

I can totally empathize with your predicament rialrees and am curious about how the PMP group feel on the lures of LBP, the addictive effects the game may have on people. Agree? Disagree? Is this just the fanaticism of a few 'special' people?

Dash it all trindall, why do you have to be so much more eloquent than me? lol! This is exactly what I mean. It's a case of love vs sanity! Seriously, the amount of all nighters I pulled in my worst (best? Hard to tell really) moments isn't even funny... and it certainly wasn't funny at work the next day!

And furthermore.... is there truly a cure? If so, maybe there's even a market in it!

@biorogue: Twitter is my friend as well :-) And we hope that you enjoy the podcast

@rialrees: Wow, just hours after recording and we already have a topic we could base an entire podcast on thanks to you, and perhaps we can even get you on the podcast to chat about it! That is a really good question, and one that I am sure that Tom and I could talk about for a while.

Whenever you get a chance, you need to listen to Episode 12. I realize that it doesn't mean much coming from me, but Simon (SalieriAAX) was hilarious on that one :-D Then again, all of our guests have been amazing :-P

@Trindall: I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading your response to rialrees's questions. I can certainly agree with a lot of what you said!

BTW, Tom got me timestamps for the podcast and I completely forgot to add them. They have officially been added to the original post now :-D Thanks for requesting it since I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who would like have it.

Another excellent podcast guys!

I laughed after JW was done telling his story about how he first got on LBPC because AFP talked for the first time in like ten minutes. I was like, "WOW! John is alive..."

Also, I have a very important question to ask for the next episode!
What is the most common color of VW Beetles around where you live.

so I'm listened to the podcast and as always I enjoyed the heck out of it. Great graphics in the OP btw. I have to admit though, I was playing through levels at the same time so I wasn't entirely focused on the show but um..Jdubs. This is actually the first time I'm hearing your voice. Your voice is kind of Jack Nicholson-y. I just keep wanting you to say "You want me on that wall, you NEED me on that wall!" or "Heeere's Johnny! " but then you lapse into a sinister Pee Wee Herman (sorry) and I wanted you to say, "I know you are but what am I? Ha Ha" I'm in no way making fun of your voice, God knows, I have an awful one. I sound like something out of Deliverance.

Waffles are NOT biscuit dough! Gravy on waffles = NO. I'm from the south (North Carolina and now Texas) and we like gravy on everything, but not waffles.
How about a shout out to your friend's tribute level. I want to play it. You said it has zero plays, what's the name?
Anyway, like I said, I enjoyed the show and Jdubs made a great guest. I had some topics lined up but seeing how ya'll are behind, I'll save them for later.
No comments on the topics you discussed as I really need to get back to this "monster" that is LBP.

Just reading over that, and I think that is the shortest and dumbest feedback I think I've left for you guys to date. I'm going to post anyway and maybe edit it later. I'm really smarter than this, I promise.

@Cory: Very happy to hear that you enjoyed the podcast. Tom headed up the questions with JWW so I did go a bit silent for a while there, mainly because I was trying to stay caught up with the Planetarium chat. I am still getting used to trying to do both at the same time and this time there was a LOT more activity on the chat (which is a very good thing!).

Thanks a lot for the question :-D

@biorogue: Yikes! A new twist in the waffles vs. pancakes discussion. Like I said on the podcast, I've never had Waffles and Gravy, so I just had to take Tom's word for it that folks eat those in the south seeing as he goes to Texas regularly (or at least semi-regularly).

Wow, I don't know why it didn't occur to me to include a link to that tribute level. Maybe I will mention it again in episode and give an update on how it is doing without forum help and then include a link in the main post. BTW, it has a whopping 2 plays now, and one of them is me (I also hearted it and yayed it). Here is a link to it: http://lbp.me/v/eqzqyt

Thanks for the feedback biorogue!

you sounded different here for some reason and I'm still not caught up on those creator spotlights. I've seen about half. You know where I learned about those? I think I saw them over at Little Big Russia (yes, I am everywhere). You have to realize, when I got LBP1, I didn't have internet for almost two years. When I did finally get online, I spent a lot of time, A LOT OF TIME, catching up on community levels, playing through ALL the spotlighted levels and trying to catch up with the forums. There's still quite a bit that I want to see. I don't know why I feel the need to do that. Why can't I just move from this point forward? I've even gone back and looked at a lot of LBP1 tutorials, "Oh cool, I could have made "grabbable" glass!"2012-03-21 15:27:00

LOL, so you tell my I am pronouncing it wrong, but then you don't tell me the correct pronunciation. Either you like hearing me struggle with it or you enjoy my terrible pronunciation I want to get people's names right so that they get the credit they deserve for their thoughts, but I am just bad at reading I guess :-P

Either way, thanks for listening. It is great to hear that you went back and listening to 12. Just yesterday Tom got us a Lite SoundCloud account so that we can have more than 1 podcast hosted at a time. On the free version you can only have 1, and on a Lite we should be able to have 2 or 3 at a time.

Thanks for listening Valeview! I know I'm guilty of mispronouncing your name as well - I say it like John does.

I'll guess it's supposed to be pronounced "veil view" instead of "valeh view". Correct? ....or no?

Either you like hearing me struggle with it or you enjoy my terrible pronunciation
Well I for one always enjoy hearing you struggle. Makes great outtakes.

(just kidding)

Our total minutes limit is up to 240 from 120, which means we should always be able to fit at least two concurrent podcasts on our account at a time, sometimes three. It's nice not to have to break links to posts about the podcast as often.

LOL!! NO worries. Part of it may be because I was at the other end of a skype call rather than being recorded directly as is Taffey in the podcast. ..and the other might have to do with me hamming it up a bit more in the spotlights.

..as for being not caught up? We are gonna have words! lol

Valeview wanted to listen to older episodes of PMP and was bummed that they were not on soundcloud. Well, I can't put them on soundcloud, but you can listen to all of them below. PLEASE NOTE that it would be a good idea to start with newer episodes and move backward since the quality of the podcast increased, so as with any new podcast, earlier episodes are a bit harder to listen to, plus we had a run around episode 5 and 6 where we didn't talk all that much about LBP.

Good idea to post those! We should probably do that from time to time.

wouldn't it be an even better idea to sticky this thread and add the new one in as they are published?

@Xenon: Glad to hear that you enjoyed the episode :-) Hopefully we will be recording again soon!

@GribbleGrunger: Not a bad idea, but I don't have the magical powers of sticky. It won't be any trouble to add the links into the podcast posts since I will only have to add one new link every time.

I?m out of town on business so I?ll just put up some reactions to the podcast that I wrote up while trying to stay awake during long, boring training classes.

-----

Comments about separate web page ? not meant to replace forum interaction. Not really needed but fun extras

I imagine a PMP web site being a place where there?d be direct links to the past episodes along with summaries or descriptions of each. Maybe pictures of the principals, behind the scenes information. Wouldn?t recommend a site if you didn?t already have a hobby or interest in doing this type of thing.

A similar type of thing could be written up in a recurring forum blog and the constant forum posts work as the lowest common denominator. Until you posted a link to all the old episodes the only way I?d be able to find links to them would be a forum search and then weed through the results.

There were some prods to start live streaming or doing other type activities and that always gets me in mind of a bigger, more mature entity that I?d also associate a dedicated web presence with. Not really necessary though just curious about where y?all are wanting to take the podcasts.

Why no link to friends level?

This is for AFP and is a bit of a tease. Why?d you build up the sad story of a non-forum going LBP friend who made a LittleBigLand style level that you think is likely better than the ones you made. How the level?s fate was so poor that after a week it hadn?t been played once and at no point do you assist your friend by mentioning the level or the creator.

This is also a bit odd as the LittleBigLand series was fairly well received back in the day and there?d likely be people who?d enjoy more of that style of gameplay. Why tease the listeners and torment this friend of yours with an almost advertisement and endorsement?

Gravy and waffles

Fun story is that my mother grew up on a farm and in her family pancakes and waffles were a dinner item. She liked to eat pancakes and waffles enough that when she had her own family she made them a breakfast item in addition to a dinner item. When it was waffles for dinner it was always with gravy and I think that the combination works out great. (It was normally a chicken gravy.)

When we had waffles for a breakfast item it was normally with syrup/butter/jam/fruit type stuff and that combination also works out great. I think that the desert-ification of pancakes and/or waffles is a bit odd, heaping it with cream, sugar or other sweet confectionary additions. If you are going this far you should just call it a crepe and be done with it.

Food is a great cultural relativism and it is fun to talk about and expand your life experiences but everyone?s taste or preference will be different or nearly so depending on the family and culture that they grew up in.

So my take is, waffles with gravy can be great. Pancakes can be good though it is easier to find mediocre quality pancakes out there which dilutes the overall pool of quality pancake experiences.

Clans?

Meh. Clans the way I see them being promoted and discussed in the LBP context seem more about creating an environment where people can get attention, pseudo-respect and some measure of authority that they may not get in other areas of their life. A clan in LBP seems to be the same thing as a group of friends that hang out or people who want to build something together.

Why formalize it with rules, a name, secret handshake and whatever else might be thought up? For the same reason that we make clubs, forts or cliques as children so we can feel important about ourselves, feel that we are being listened to and to boss around our friends. Forums may be too big for people to feel that they have an impact, to get respect or to feel important so people try to make these bite-size power groups who sycophantically pat each other on the back or run amok on power mad, ego boosting joy rides.

Actually that may come off as me being a bit down on clans. I think they are great for young people to enjoy time with other like-minded individuals, create and set in motion activities that they enjoy as well as generate a sense of ability or accomplishment.

Then I think that people grow up and mature and shouldn?t need to create artificial structures to prop up their own self worth. Instead people should work to interact with others as part of a wider group and be honest about what you want and how you want to achieve it. No need to set up the ?clan? label or hide behind stricture as a means to interact with other people.

Forum origin stories are fun to hear. It is interesting to hear about how people got to where they are now. Considering that the people that are on your podcast are all distinguished enough to be there. To hear how they were when they were just normal people is a great tie-in to us huddled masses yearning to breath free.

Wow Trindall, those are some excellent thoughts :-)

On the topic of the separate web page:
I know that last week both Tom and I came back in response to that and acted like it was sort of silly since we are enjoying posting on all the sites, but we have really considered it in the past, and I wouldn't say that it is out of the question in the future. When you brought up the fact that doing something like a live stream would make a site seem like a natural step you are completely correct. Plus, I always loved how Sackcast had their own site and yet still played nice with all the other LBP sites and never really felt like competition but rather a compliment to the other sites.

No Link to Friends Level
You aren't the first person that has asked me about this. I will have to bring it up in the next podcast and then include a level link to it. The level is called "The Chronicles of LittleBigLand". I am impressed by just how accurately it follows my level LBL#1 while still changing things around to add LBP2 functionality. Certain things, like bad backgrounds, are copied too though, and I wish that the creator (TJCAL50) had done more with them. I made terrible background for that level because I had no experience and didn't really know better.

Gravy and Waffles
Since the last podcast was published I have had one person who has lived in the south all of their life tell me they had never had gravy and waffles so it is good to hear that someone has. It is interesting that your mom started off with pancakes and waffles in the evening and then moved it to the morning instead of the other way around which is what I would have expected. Speaking of piling sweet stuff on waffles, in China they had restaurants who made waffles and put ice cream and all sorts of other stuff on them. That is all that they had! Happy times

Clans
You are spot on in your clan write up. It seems that it starts with one or two people who want respect/power, so they start a group and then for whatever reason other people are willing to follow. I have never met a clan leader who was not immature. Perhaps there are some great clans out there, but so far my impressions have not been good.

Forum Origin Stories
We may have to keep this as a normal feature where we ask our guest how they got involved with the forums. I find it interesting since MM doesn't really promote the forums in the game. Perhaps they do a bit more now with the forum pins, but back when we were all getting on the forums you just had to sort of wander across them on your own and try to fit in.

Thanks for the feedback Trindall!

Precautions have been taken and I'm listening to this BEFORE the workout. Velociraptor - Wildclockinlaptop?

Your guest said "LPB.me". faaaaaaail!!!!11

Merge all the fansites! The community isn't that big. Seriously. Moderators sit down and figure it out. Let's take a steamy hot bath together. Or not?

"Clans" in the LBP community is a funny concept. I refuse to acknowledge its existence in the LBP community because it's so dumb.

Time to go work out and become the techno-viking.

wouldn't it be an even better idea to sticky this thread and add the new one in as they are published? That's a good suggestion and something we have talked about, but ultimately decided not to do. All other recurring news items such as the community and creator spotlights, MM podcasts, etc., all are posted with fresh threads whenever a new instance/episode comes out. We're just following the same format.

I?m out of town on business so I?ll just put up some reactions to the podcast that I wrote up while trying to stay awake during long, boring training classes.Your feedback is just like all-you-can-eat prime rib. It's excellent, filling, and it just keeps on coming. Thanks Trindall!

Wouldn?t recommend a site if you didn?t already have a hobby or interest in doing this type of thing. My thoughts exactly. I have dabbled in this sort of thing before, and I have no particular desire to do so again. It's always 10x more work than you think it'll be. Editing the podcast and posting around the forums, however, I find to be both manageable and fun. I could do this forever.

When it was waffles for dinner it was always with gravy and I think that the combination works out great. (It was normally a chicken gravy.)Ah, so you're familiar with the concept as well! Great story too. I've had waffles with all different types of gravy, but probably chicken or turkey is my favorite. I mentioned country sausage gravy in the podcast and that's good too, although that's best for breakfast.

Quite a few people from the south (e.g., the Carolinas) have also told me that they've never heard of waffles and gravy, and my wife who is from Texas also has never heard of it. This backs up exactly what biorogue said as well. I spent a couple years in Atlanta as a very young child, and I acquired a taste for a few different types of foods there including this one. I also like grits, okra, boiled peanuts, and fried cornmeal mush a lot too - most people I know in California think all of those are gross. I wonder if there's anyone from Georgia around the forums who would be willing to weigh in on this one.

Merge all the fansites! The community isn't that big. Seriously. Moderators sit down and figure it out. Let's take a steamy hot bath together. Or not?Interesting concept! It would make a lot of sense, but in practice I don't think it would ever work. There would be way too many chefs in the kitchen after that kind of a merge.

Hmmm... and the plot thickens. I went to Wikipedia to check it out and it certainly says that they are "traditional Danish pancakes".

Hmmm... and the plot thickens. It does indeed. It's about as thick as pancake batter now I think.

I went to Wikipedia to check it out and it certainly says that they are "traditional Danish pancakes".I'm sure Simon will find a way to refute that as evidence, what with Wikipedia being user editable and all, but it is still a convincing mark in my favor.
