Minigame Ideas, Anyone?
Archive: 9 posts
lolohai guiz, recently I've gotten back into the habit of trying to make a LBP2 level, and this time I want to make a minigame. Sadly, I've found it almost impossible to come up with a minigame that would be addicting, replayable, and fun, since most of the ideas are taken. Anyone got any ideas for a minigame level? | 2012-03-20 03:48:00 Author: DominationMags Posts: 1840 |
well, i really enjoyed that LBP2 basketball level, so i made my own version of it, with many new features... pretty fun to play with friends. I'm upgrading it now since only now i'm learning how to use sackbots and stuff. In my version, if you throw an opponent on the "basket", he loses 20 points (you win 10 points everytime you throw the ball in), you can also throw your opponents on spikes on the walls, and there are bounce pads on the closer layer. there is also a switch you can grab to and set the ball on fire... as soon as it's ready, i will publish it =) i think it's difficult to come up with a good concept for a simple and fun multiplayer game. by the way, i really miss versus levels for playing with friends (4 players offline). Does anybody here know any good one? | 2012-03-20 06:14:00 Author: yodavid Posts: 50 |
Make a 'sim' game in which you take divine control over semi-autonomous sackbots/creatures. Maybe through a Move controller. I had an idea for a sidescrolling strategic war sim a while ago but I won't share the details. Environments that lend itself for sims/RTS: - the battlefield (Starcraft, Warcraft, Red Alert, Worms, Advanced Wars) - an obstacle course (Lemmings) - the human body - an office tower (SimTower) - a city or culture (SimCity, Populous) - a natural habitat (Spore) - a theme park (SimThemePark, Rollercoaster Tycoon) - an economy or business - outer space Real Time simulation is one thing, but you can also think of much slower paced turn-based gameplay (Worms, Advanced Wars) in case you are fighting an opponent or other players. | 2012-03-20 13:21:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
I just had an epic idea for a platformer..... There are 4 sackbots, each with a unique power. Sackbot 1. Can switch layers in/out Sackbot 2. Can tilt/move obstacles to where they need to be Sackbot 3. Can travel through certain "wires" and activate bounce pads. Sackbot 4. Not sure yet, if you guys have any ideas for sackbot 4. or more ideas for a minigame, just tell me :3 | 2012-03-20 14:39:00 Author: DominationMags Posts: 1840 |
Hi there. Hmmm...Minigames eh? Well you could always reserch the web for ideas, look at old retro 80s games and other simple one screen games for inspiration.Maybe pic a theme you like and structure your gsame around that. (lgames like Tapper, Arkanoid, Donkey Kong, pac man, etc. (actually i find ZX spectrum games a good base for ideas on games or even Atari 2600 video game system games. If you search for 'retro 80s game's, you may get inspired. I like your idea of 4 sackbots... they can be A.I. or 1-4 players controlled. Personally, |'d say keep your idea simple to start (not so much for locations, but rather for gameplay-Graphics will pull the players in, but gameplays what keeps them there) I'd try for something multiplayer and make it a split screen so players can go off each others screen. You can still set up sequencially reached gates, like coop, and group scoring, so you could keep the same coop'y feel, yet have the screen seperate with versus. More players, in a mini-game makes it more fun to play against or with another player. BRight colours and clear layout are also attractive to playing a level. A series of secrets or bonuses add to the depth of play too. ( This will give the players something to strive toward (like- 'If you get to 10,000 points you will open that black door to that black room&apos Hope this is of use my friend | 2012-03-20 15:13:00 Author: Sean88 Posts: 662 |

There are 4 sackbots, each with a unique power. If you would like to switch between each bot and have proper multiplayer support, have a look at my Controlinator Trickery tutorial (link in signature). | 2012-03-20 16:38:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
i just came up with this idea and will be working on it. it's a side scrolling tower defense. Now, what i usually hate about tower defenses is that you can actually beat it by just following instructions. Like: "initially, build towers 1 and 2. Next stage, build upgrades X, Y, and tower 3", and so on... on this version i'm making, you will actually be controlling the sackboy/sackbot at the same time, so you will be able to grab incoming creatures, throw them back on their track, use one or two creatinators, etc. | 2012-03-22 18:55:00 Author: yodavid Posts: 50 |
