Building a PC

Archive: 8 posts

I need some help, i'm trying to build a decent PC to play steam on and found out it's probably easier just to build my own...only one problem there, I don't know the first thing about it and don't understand what I need to look at. Does anyone have any suggestions for me or maybe links of good places to get things, I'm looking to try and keep it under 600$ if feasibly possible2012-03-18 19:22:00

http://www.tigerdirect.com/ great source for affordable parts. Everything you need to build a PC. Make sure you do some research. If this is your first build then definitely research, research and research some more. I hope you know the inner workings of a PC. If you don't, then I don't recommend building your own. Start off by upgrading your current PC, if you have one, and learn from doing that. Then down the road build one from the ground up.2012-03-18 20:11:00

It's not that hard, it doesn't matter if he is familiar with it, it's easy with the hundreds of guides on the internet...

This video helped me tons. $600 won't get you the best computer ever, but it should be enough plenty of popular Steam games. Also, while on said topic, I prefer Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/) over Tiger Direct, find it nicer and easier to use.

Well.. that guide back a ways should at least define the ballpark for your budget, though it is a month old.

..as far as AMD vs Intel? Either really. I tend to go with Intel, but either is good.

Graphics.. well, you can go nutty here. (not that you can't go nutty on everything) For the most part, graphics cards do quite a bit of the work concerning how amazing a game can look. In each game you can set how far to go with textures, shaders, anti-aliasing etc.. all that takes a toll on how many frames you can see. The more frames the smoother the action. ..at least up to a point as you can only SEE so many frames a second in the first place.

To be honest... a better graphics card will get you further than a great processor and motherboard. Using that guide, you might check out some bare bones systems from either www.tigerdirect.com or newegg.com These systems will have all the components and they match everything up already. So no worrying about if this CPU will work on this motherboard. They have the correct memory that will work as well as what type of graphics card that works.

We can answer any questions, but it can get really confusing for those that have not ever dealt with them before.
