The Modular Approach

Archive: 3 posts

it's clear now that if MM or Sony added EVERYTHING the creators asked for in this forum, LBP3 would be three Blu-rays... but there IS an answer and that answer is a modular approach. each would have its own creating area that opens up when you place it down, much like the music sequencer. this is the way it must go as far as i'm concerned and would make wish lists redundant:

1/ A complete artists module that allows people to make new objects, stickers and materials (MOVE not required) it would have everything that a professionally made draw program has.

2/ A sound creating module that allows you use waveforms and manipulate them in order to create unique sounds or sounds that are manipulations of a base sound. a bird tweet for instance could easily become any bird sound given the right parameters and filters. any sound already available can be used with this

3/ an improved music sequencer with more bells and whistles that allows you to use sounds created in the sound module.

4/ An animation module. speaks for itself really. you would have a marionette and would be able to move it however you wished and then take a snapshot or a copy depending on what style you require. this tool could use materials or stickers etc made in the artists module

this would suit the hobbyist who wants to just make music, art, animations or movies and would also be a boon to those that want to add an extra layer of professionalism to their creations. because everything is in modules they can be given away in exactly the same way as user created music is now or complex logic

Do like.

Another solution I just thought of is to have this stuff in a "Creator's Pack" if it's too much for just the game. What I mean is have extra tools that aren't necessary to creation, but very helpful, in the extra pack, that lets you install the things to your hard drive. I think it'd be a good place to put all these modules, and maybe some other things that could be helpful.

But how you gonna tie some of this with logic, music sequencer needs to be this way as it is so it can be used with ANY logic, animation need to be tied with logic objects to fully utilize it. Also don't expect Sony to kill off DLC with that sound and artists module

I never seen editing software that let you throw away modules because you don't need them having those things don't cost you anything, they are not loaded to memory until yu use them
