Playing LBP PSP on a Vita, impressions and information.
Archive: 53 posts
I thought it would be a good idea for those of us who have loaded our Vitas with LBP to give others our thoughts on the game and how it plays. Also having seen information about it in different threads I thought it would be a good idea to have a single thread for people to go to for help with any issues. I'll try to update the original post with important info as we get it. Sorry for the formatting as this is a work in progress. Please feel free to correct me on anything listed since it will help people get up and running. LBP PSP VITA FAQ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ________ 1. Can I install LBP PSP from PSN on my Vita? A: No, as of now LBP PSP can only be installed on your Vita by transferring it from another source, such as the PS3. I have read that people have tried restoring the files and their saves via a restore from a PSP backup. But, there seems to be some problems with updates not getting installed and profile corruption. I downloaded LBP PSP and all the updates and DLC through my PS3 and transferred it to my PS3 without any issues. My profile is gone and all levels will have to be replayed to get items, stickers and materials. Below is a link to Sony's instructions for playing PSP games on the vita. http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/psvita/game/game_psp.html 2. Do the online features work? Yes it works like it was on the PSP. 3. How is the performance compared to the PSP? So far it played pretty much the same as I remember the game on the PSP. The only issue I've seen is a slight pause when going into a video during the intro level. One thing that did just occur to me is that when I played one of my levels that always seemed to get bogged down toward the end did not have any slow down issues. I will continue to play and update as more impressions come in. My thoughts... So far I am very happy with it. Once I turned on Bilinear Filtering it looked great. Coming from a GO I'm noticing more of the details. Hell I even made a costume, since I could actually see and enjoy it. I plan on going through the story levels again... yeah Im a masochist. I have done the same on both the PS3 games. It will also be cool to play some of my favorite levels to see all the details I probably missed before. Hopefully this will keep me busy until LBP Vita drops. =D | 2012-03-15 21:45:00 Author: Xenon Posts: 306 |
Do you plan on creating anything for psp on your vita? | 2012-03-15 21:59:00 Author: unc92sax Posts: 928 |
I think I did the same thing as you. It's pretty much impossible to install the old profile without corruption.. But through the PS3 I was able to get the game and DLC installed. Just had to go through story mode again... for the third time.... And ur right, the bilinear filtering is amazing. The colors are so much more vivid! As for performance, I don't think it's any different than PSP. I've been creating the past week and I've run into the expected lag and freezes. I haven't gotten the red screen though! The best thing I think about it is that even if it freezes, pressing the PS button can return you to the LiveArea, as if it didn't even freeze. | 2012-03-15 22:12:00 Author: anoken Posts: 1654 |
Do you plan on creating anything for psp on your vita? Maybe, but it would be just something simple. I have forgotten most of the quirks of the LBP PSP editor. I do however remember that learning about them the first time was a pretty rough ride. I don't think I want to go through that again. | 2012-03-15 22:13:00 Author: Xenon Posts: 306 |
I play PSP with mah PSVita I was shocked when I played my level "Cave Escape" :''D No lag at all! O: | 2012-03-16 14:28:00 Author: doggy97 Posts: 964 |
So I decided to test LBP PSP's performance on the vita with probably the best level to use possible, Spark151's Visiting the Canyon. I was expecting to see the poor Vita crawl away with its touchscreen between its legs. To my surprise, it ran it much better than on my psp go. There was still slowdown but the difference between the two is huge and apparent from the moment you're lowered down in the heart. =D | 2012-03-16 23:24:00 Author: Xenon Posts: 306 |

That's true It still lags... and I guess cuz it's emulator? | 2012-03-17 21:23:00 Author: doggy97 Posts: 964 |
I didn't even consider the fact that running the game on the Vita might help to fix slowdown issues. So do levels like Euphoric Physics by FULLGORR and Shallow Springs run smoothly now or were they too hopelessly overthermo'd? | 2012-03-20 11:24:00 Author: amazingflyingpoo Posts: 1515 |
I'd have to give them a run, which I'll try and do later. But an example of the difference on Spark151's Visiting the Canyon I hit and held the jump button on the Vita and my PSPGo. The sackboy on the Vita was already back on the ground while the PSPGo sackboy was just starting his decent from the height of his jump. So the Vita is running the level faster. I can't say levels will play perfect but they should play better with the processing boost. | 2012-03-20 16:58:00 Author: Xenon Posts: 306 |
Just noticed that if you'll play CyberSora's (awesome) level called : Gradius.. it lags like in PSP | 2012-03-20 18:09:00 Author: doggy97 Posts: 964 |
Well. I don't have to worry about this, because I have the umd. | 2012-03-20 22:59:00 Author: unc92sax Posts: 928 |
Well. I don't have to worry about this, because I have the umd. Then it should lag even more.^^ | 2012-03-21 09:37:00 Author: Schark94 Posts: 3378 |
Then it should lag even more.^^ http://data.whicdn.com/images/4420705/tumblr_lad40bW1Sp1qboubo_thumb.jpg PS. I played the LBP PSP again 100% I has everything! ;~; | 2012-03-21 13:54:00 Author: doggy97 Posts: 964 |
@AFP- I tried both the levels and it seems Fullgorr's level benefited from the being on the Vita more than yours. Both are still Laggy but there are points in Euphoric Physics that run well. I didn't load up either on the Go since they both were still suffering from slowdown. I have an idea why I am getting the performance boost on the Vita. The PSP processor was underclocked at 222Mhz for some reason even though it was designed to run at 333Mhz. I know that people running custom firmware are able to overclock their PSPs without issue. So I have a feeling the Vita emulator is emulating at 333Mhz. This may explain why some people are not seeing a difference, if they have their PSP overclocked. I doubt Ill ever put this to test. One other thing I learned about creating on the Vita is that since LBP uses the PSP OS(?) keyboard, text entries are done via the touchscreen. =D | 2012-03-21 15:56:00 Author: Xenon Posts: 306 |

This is great information Xenon - thanks! :hero: Yes it's... But nowI discovered that IF you put your littlebigplanet savedata into your PSVita the game is more laggier o: How do I know? I downloaded savedata from GameFAQS and tried it out I got bored and I decied to complete the game again (third time ;D ) 100%! It didn't lag! The other thing I tried was that I tested which one was faster? Overclocked PSP or PSVita? Winner is Vita so Vita make it pit faster to play (belive me! ) | 2012-03-21 20:45:00 Author: doggy97 Posts: 964 |
Thanks for the info Doggy97, I'll update the 1st post with the info soon. | 2012-03-21 21:58:00 Author: Xenon Posts: 306 |
@Xenon: Thanks for checking out those levels for me :-) At least I know that I don't need to buy a Vita for a better Shallow Springs experience | 2012-03-28 04:05:00 Author: amazingflyingpoo Posts: 1515 |
I've given up on trying to put my LBP PSP on my Vita... So I got myself a new PSP. Can't wait to see all the new levels that have been put up in the last few months! | 2012-03-28 05:42:00 Author: Random Posts: 673 |

Yay! This thread was mentioned on the pocket moon podcast 14! We are famous now. Sweet! I have done some more playing around with the editor. I was just trying to make a simple shape with a 24 x 24 piece of material, a black cardboard, and after only adding 14 points I got the red screen of death. I tried it again, same thing. Later I tried the same thing on the PSP Go and hit 26 with no lock ups. It did however get very laggy. So I went back and tried it on the vita, this time selecting basic rock and had no problems. I'm not sure whats going on with it, but for now I'm not planning start any big projects on the thing. One thing I want to note is that while I did install the turbo pack, I have not played it. | 2012-03-30 15:03:00 Author: Xenon Posts: 306 |

Meh... I don't have to post in this thread to be famous but... why not? -_- @uncsax - Y U NO PLAY SPACE TEMPLES?!?1?11/!? It must be shameful. But I never heard of it. SORRY! I was talking with b-coli and he had a very good question... How do updates work? Does the Vita automatically look for the latest version of the LBP PSP software and download that directly, or do you need to reinstall the game from your PS3 every time there's an update? I know that there haven't been any PSP updates since the Vita launch, but I don't know what version of the software is on the PSN store. Also, if you happen to have an older version of the LBP PSP installer on your PS3, the game software will end up being out of date on the Vita and we're back to the same original problem - how do you update it? | 2012-03-30 22:55:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |

LOL Well yes, obviously. My question is, if you can't download the software directly to your Vita via the PSN Store, it stands to reason that the download button wouldn't work either. Have you actually tried it and does it work? If it does that would be great. Also, why is the 'continue' screen mirror imaged and upside-down? I guess it's still pretty buggy. | 2012-03-30 23:43:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |

It does work. The continue screen is upside down because I edited the picture, which is also why the manual is mirrored and the symbols are everywhere. I really don't have much to do. | 2012-03-30 23:46:00 Author: Wertpol Posts: 264 |

I really don't have much to do.Haha Truly, technology IS amazing. That's very interesting that the direct download works... That's clearly a loophole in the Sony infrastructure that they've blocked download from one application but allow it from another. I guess it fits in with the weirdness in that they allow you to install stuff via PS3 as well. Either way, thanks for the info! | 2012-03-31 01:04:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |
sorry guys, but the explanation above doesn't cover how to install the update.. it shows where you go to do it... but when i click that update button, i get a message telling me The latest version of the application is already installed but then when i back out of that message, and try and re-enter the game (after pressing the PS button to get out of it, i get another message telling me: The update file for this application has been downloaded. Do you want to close the application and preform the update? and i can choose cancel or OK, if i choose cancel it takes me back into the game but if i click OK, it shuts down the game i was playing(resets it back to as if i hadn't turned it on yet) then i click the "update button and it tells me i have the latest version again so thinking i can maybe find a solution, i go into my settings and click on: Application Data Management then i click on Saved Data(PSP/Other) there i find two LBP items, one is the game itself...and in the details of it, it tells me : Locally installed GameData Requires game update 5 and when i click on the player profile data it seems to be all the game save files collected objects etc and tells me again i require game update 5..... now when i installed LBP from my PS3, i also installed about 28-29 other items with it, including all free costumes, the free background, valentines day pack, and turbo pack, but i also selected the update... so if the games thinks i have it installed, and i installed it from my ps3... then why do i keep getting the error message telling me i need to update??? can someone please break down how you specifically update your version....if anyone actually has..... PLEASE... i am getting sick of this error message oh, and yeah, you ARE famous, i only knew about this thread thanks to the pocketmoon podcast ps: thank you VERY much for posting this thread, i had no idea this could be done and was kinda upset i couldn't play it on my Vita until i heard about it on the podcast | 2012-03-31 06:22:00 Author: b-coli Posts: 38 |
Are you trying to use your old save file? Because that'd just lead to a profile corruption, even if you do get it to work. I didn't have any problems updating the game that way, I have no idea why it's not working properly for you. Maybe you could try touching one of the bubbles for a couple of seconds and then pressing on the LBP bubble to get some more options, but that's just a guess. | 2012-03-31 11:16:00 Author: Wertpol Posts: 264 |
nope, not trying to use game save at all this is frustrating | 2012-03-31 19:18:00 Author: b-coli Posts: 38 |
I'm not sure why it's being a butt... This is what you need to do. Get on your ps3 and scroll through your download history on the PS Store. When you see the latest update for LBP PSP, download it to your PS3. Then connect your vita and transfer the file, it'll install automatically. This should work... It did for me. If you already tried this... then I have no clue. The whole process is so much harder than it should be :/ | 2012-03-31 20:00:00 Author: anoken Posts: 1654 |
i guess i will have to sift through my over 800 downloads AGAIN... to find them all angain and download them AGAIN... and uninstall on my vita(delete) the whole game and try it all over again. but this time NOT install the update at the same time and see if that makes a difference... what a pain in the butt! | 2012-04-01 00:42:00 Author: b-coli Posts: 38 |
Has anyone tried using Media Go to transfer data? | 2012-04-01 03:04:00 Author: unc92sax Posts: 928 |
Has anyone tried using Media Go to transfer data? Non-compatible with the Vita (at least for me). | 2012-04-01 03:36:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |
Has anyone tried using Media Go to transfer data? Vita has a different software than MediaGo. It uses content manager (http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/psvita/cm/installcma.html). | 2012-04-01 04:28:00 Author: anoken Posts: 1654 |
ok, so i deleted ALL data on my Vita, re-downloaded all LBP PSP stuff to my ps3 and transferred the game over to my Vita by itself... it ran fine then when i backed out and clicked on the update icon (orange button pointing down)... it said their was an update available. so i clicked to download it and it did, no problems. then i started the game got into a level and pressed the PS button to back out of the game.... but when you try and go back into the game, i STILL get the error message telling me that an update has been downloaded and do i want to quit to install it.... this is the EXACT message i got before when i downloaded everything at once... are you guys even actually checking to see if you get the same message... by backing out of the game and trying to start it up again ? will someone PLEASE try what i am saying and see if you get the messages i am getting? i can still play the game, so i can understand if none of you think you are having problems, but just back out of the game and try and re-enter it and see if you get the error message....please..... | 2012-04-01 16:59:00 Author: b-coli Posts: 38 |

Thank you for trying and your time you took to do it for me This is seriously driving me nuts. I mean I can always just restart the game every time but I would really like to know how to just put the game to sleep, check a message and then go right back where Ieft off... But that is impossible for me  Can you check your game data in the settings and see if it tells you you require update 5? Or can anyone? I guess I will just give up I mean I can play freaking LBP psp on my vita and had no idea I could before this thread I am just one of those people that if it's possible, I have to have it... Reading my mini rants And thank you for any help you may offer | 2012-04-02 01:56:00 Author: b-coli Posts: 38 |

Played Euphoric Physics with almost no lag. Create Mode sometimes locks up, don't know if that happened with the PSP (never had one, only played LBPP on the Vita). Works well enough for me. | 2012-05-11 15:56:00 Author: Unknown User |
