Create a committee?

Archive: 19 posts

I was just thinking it would be nice to create a committee to judge levels, give the levels a rating from 1 to 5, or something. Explaining to us what the level is and the likes and dislikes. Not only does this help people from downloading or going to a level that is not good but also helps the creator know how they are doing and maybe what they need to improve. What is everyones thoughts on this?

I was thinking something like gameinformer but called lbplevelinformer.

I know sometimes it hurts to hear criticism but it something needed to improve at what you do. But also will be a way to hear good things also and maybe help in pushing levels hire up if a whole community is getting it.

everyone should be able to judge the levels... if you repeatedly say levels suck then you lose ur judgeing rights...2008-08-15 01:37:00

Yes, as long as the criticism is constructive this could prove to be very useful.

I think it's a bad idea altogether. I've seen this happen before.. People don't get into the Judges, they go sour, put everyone elses work down, and it discourages people from making things.

And why do we need certain people to tell us if our stuff's good or not?

We don't. Anybody can rate your level, why do we need to purposely accept some peoples opinions as being better & / or more supreme than others?

Yeah, the only part I like about it is the constructive criticism part, I don't like the false illusion of superiority. 2008-08-15 02:59:00

I would only take judgement from people I respect...

I plan on inviting LBPC members to judge my levels and give me feedback...

I understand what you are saying, but I know at school we would show our levels and we would talk about what worked and what didn't. I feel like there is some good people on this forum that I would love to hear there opinions. If you are creatiing levels and they are not good wouldn't you want to know why? So you can improve, or keep doing what you are doing and never know how to fix the problem or never know there is a problem. There is alot of stuff to know when creatiing levels, colors, ramping system is good, or using a good trigger. And many more things also, I doubt sony and MM are going to tell you why your levels are not doing well, but only a group of good friends that are willing to help you and give some criticism.

Also I would like to add there is a reason why game companies have testers and groups come in to play the game, they want to 1 make sure there is no bugs 2 designers lose the perspective of a player, you have a hard time looking at your level as a player, you may look at something as a great idea but a player could see as annoying or to difficult or too easy. Or your favorite color may affect a player in a way you did not know it would.

So that is why I already have about 3 testers already set up, and I thought want not have a group of LBPC members judge my levels also, because I am not wanting okay levels but ones you will remember like the first time you played Mario, I am not looking to be a okay at this, I want to be GREAT!!!! But that is just me.

But maybe this idea is not a good idea for the forum. And if there is not a good group of people than it would not work.

I think, if you really want constructive criticism on a level, you need to privately invite your most trusted friends to it and see what they think. You just need to find someone who will tell you the truth about a level, no matter what. Committees tend to become elitist, and that doesn't really support the kind of atmosphere we are trying to promote around here.

So, yes, I think this is a bad idea.

I'm pretty sure you'll get feedback on LBP itself, much like youtube and the like because you can comment on others' levels and rate them. It's somewhat self regulating, you don't need to assign a governing body, you'll get your feedback through the game.2008-08-15 07:04:00

Yes, but that just creates a feeling of some people's opinions being more superior to others, when all opinions should be valued..

That's why we don't need a commitee, if you want someone to judge your levels, you can just ask them personally, instead of having a group of people who's opinions are ranked far superior to others.

The best thing to do is when the game comes out, every who made a level should post the title of it on this website, and then everyone can give their review after they played and say what could of made it better. Add a poll and after a certain amount of day (1-2 weeks) the poll should close giving the level an overall rating based off the poll.2008-08-21 20:03:00

The best and most natural way to get good opinions on levels is to have some kind of a level review site up that is not chosen by anyone or forced by anyone, but rather a site where the reviewer wants to review levels as a hobby and for the community. I'm sure there'll be some sort of a review guy on these boards as well, but it'll come naturally and not as an assigned committee.2008-08-21 20:50:00

Based on the eurogamer interview the level sharing will have a section where you can tell people that you like their level or their style. If a level or creation is at the top of the list and alot of of people like it, it will speak for itself. How to get people to play your games is all in your "marketing" skills . If your level is on the bottom of the list just try a different angle.2008-08-26 19:13:00

Yeah after reading the interview today I guess this idea is not a great idea. It seems that there will be people who make points and rewards by playing levels and ranking the levels. So I guess no need for the idea. :kz:2008-08-26 21:13:00
