http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/03/15/the-ratchet-clank-collection-going-1080p-on-ps3-multiplayer-included/

For EU it is a May 16th release. Still only says Fall for NA. (Insomniac's Twitter)

Games have been made HD by Idol Minds
Up your arsenal will have Online Co-op - Yay! My PS2 never had online and it was rather dull with two player split screen.
Trophies - Hoping for some witty names

Games in the collection are: (NA names/EU names)
Ratchet and Clank
Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando/Locked and Loaded
Ratchet and Clank: Up your arsenal/3

No Deadlocked/Gladiator which is a shame since I really enjoyed the co-op in that one. But I'm glad the main 3 are in here.

My childhood in a box

Also, I got so close to getting all the stuff to play 3 online, and my mum found out you could talk to people online and wouldn't let me, and everyone else found I knew found it boring while I loved it. Can't wait to play it properly.

I imagine the trophies will just be the skill points from the first games? Some of them where difficult, I haven't got all the skill points on any of the games.

Well, I haven't gotten the Jak & Daxter or Sly Cooper Collections just yet, after hearing several complaints of the sequels. How do the main three Ratchet and Clank games hold up alltogether? I've heard about numerous people loving 'Up Your Arsenal', but what about 'Going Commando' and the original?2012-03-15 19:14:00

The months difference for NA is a bummer. I remember how annoying it was for me to wait until GOW 3 was out to buy the Collection. But hey, Insomniac also says NA's version will have a bonus to make up for it, and that the date will make sense in time.

Looks like Ratchets anniversary is important enough to get a logo.

Oh my Gosh I was just about to post a thread about this!

Sorry LBP, but this was/is my favorite videogame series EVER. So much that I went out and bought a used PS2 and then bought all of the Ratchet games.

THANK YOU INSOMNIAC! (Better than Naughty Dog IMHO)

Naturally it would get an anniversary logo. It was the most requested trilogy out of all the game franchises (Jak&Daxter and Sly Cooper) according to the blog post. I have to admit, the games have aged well because I still play all three and they never get old. Also Ratchet: Deadlocked did not suck. People say that cause they can't take change.
I'm a little curious on what they have extra planned for us in North America though.

Of the three, Ratchet and Clank 3 (Up Your Arsenal) is my favorite, with Locked and Loaded (Going Commando) being my least favorite, but they're all awesome.

Thanks for replying. Any particular reasons to why Up your Arsenal was your favorite and Going Commando/Locked n Loaded was your least favorite? What I mean is, what things made UYA a great game, and what things made GC a not-as-great game?

Consider that I played them as quite a young child (I got the first one aged 6), so my opinions are going to be slightly biased. The third one to me just had a much better story, more entertaining places and better weapons than the first. Things like the Gladiator thing, trophies and the bits with the robots (I can't remember their names, but it was basically like little challeneges that they set you) were all very fun.

In comparison, the second did have some more interesting weapons and levels, but I remember a lot of them dragging and just generally not being as fun. As I said though, this was all to my very small little child's brain, so don't think too much of it

Besides, you get all of them on this, so it doesn't matter much.

Also Ratchet: Deadlocked did not suck. People say that cause they can't take change.

Again, this is down to my opinion that I formed a long time ago, but I just found it to be not as interesting, it got very samey. Co-op was great fun though and playing through it on 5-star difficulty was a blast. I scratched my disc once putting it in my PS2 wrong, now you've made me want to get another one

I think Gladiator was the worst of the series. One of the reasons because I like the series is the variety of gameplay and Gladiator was mostly about shooting. It could have been included in the Collection but I'm not really bothered that it wasn't. I'd rather have Size Matters instead of Gladiator.2012-03-26 10:57:00

I wouldn't call it the worst one. All 4 One takes the gold in that competition. I did miss the platforming in it to be honest, but the fast-paced hellstorm it brought made up for it IMO. Also:

? co-op mode makes it more fun
? story was really good
? the characters were brilliant
? Rapid Fire, Multicolored, Electric-Chain Updated Dual Vipers with Gangsta Guns on > All
? THOSE CUTSCENES!

Eh, didn't really take All 4 One into account. Yeah I suppose that one is the most forgettable of the series. Altough it's not really supposed to have the same formula as the other Ratchet games.2012-03-26 23:20:00

As I said, the co-op was pretty awesome. I can't remember loads to be honest, it's been ages. I'm off now to see if it'll work on my PS2 now. I do remember it having the greatest weapon ever, where loads of giant laserbeams rained down from the sky for no reason other than to be completely awesome

Oh, and I haven't played A Crack in Time or All 4 One.

EDIT: It works! All these years I thought I'd killed it, and it works! Awesome.

EDIT EDIT: It froze on the ship flying through the air ;_;

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Disc just needed cleaning.

Last EDIT, I promise: OK, I agree with CyberSora. The small bit I played (the game freezes whenever I leave the planet I'm on) was very intense and pretty difficult (I died 3 times, there was one enemy who could take hits like a boss and one hit cut my health in half (this was five star difficulty)), but it was enjoyable. I'll see about the disc (it doesn't looked scratched, just incredibly dirty) and play a bit more.

Just played the first three to completion recently actually. That box art is ugly and mis-leading.
Ratchet 1: My favourite, its very up-beat in its level design, scince theres no weapon leveling you're free to just use the weapons you like whenever you want, scince theres visible hit points, you always know where you stand against enemies.
Ratchet 2: I despise this one. its very bland in its environments. Yes, its the ratchet that pretty much made the series what it is today, but the whole thing seems like an experiment and I'm just not keen on how it turned out.
Ratchet 3: awesome!!! pure Awesome!! ratchet 1 is my favourite for nostalgia reasons, but this one has by far the best gameplay of the 3. the variety is great, the multiplayer is great (where it says online co-op, does it mean the vs play, or is there a co-op mode I didn't know exsisted?) the rangers missions are sooo much fun ( essentially like mini battlefields, using the multiplayer maps where you're set an objective and must complete it at all costs) and the story is engaging. P.S. insomniac moon= best extra ever in a video-game.

As far as this deadlocked arguement goes, I'm currently playing through it for around the fourth time (trying to level my nanotech to 1000) the gameplay is good fun. the weapons are all usefull this time round, the cutscenes and in game commentry by chhhhhwanita and dallas is absolutely hilarious, far more funny then any of the other games, but the skill points are just plain confusing. what is a laser back? how do I destroy 5?

I enjoyed the 1st game but I had to use the jets to strafe which annoyed me and ratchets voice actor in the game a bit annoying.
3rd and deadlocked were equal though I loved them both the lines were just brilliant by the rangers in 3 and the robot allies in deadlocked.

Personally I loved Gladiator. Great characters/designs in that one.

Rapid Fire, Multicolored, Electric-Chain Updated Dual Vipers with Gangsta Guns on > All
Quoted for truth.

As for the collection, sucks Gladiator isn't in it (lost my copy! ) and that box art is super lazy!
I mean, that ratchet model is from Future (#1), and the Qwark/Nef models are from All 4 One.
Would be way better if it was just that nice vector logo.

Maybe, but when something's already good, there's no need to change it.

But hey, what's cool about the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection is that you can flip the boxart and there's another version on the other side of the paper. Then you can have Ico's whole boxart on the front of the box and SOTC's boxart on the back.2012-03-30 14:40:00

Apart from this. One of the weapons is useless, the sniper rifle thing. I've always questioned this, and it was in 3 as well. Why would you ever need a sniper rifle in a Ratchet and Clank game?

I don't know about you, but I'm making a wallpaper out of my game's covers to cover the wall behind my entertainment system. Problems right now are:

? I need to rearrange some things first.
? Knock down a wall to make a "gaming room" since people aren't fond of my computer and games being in the living room.
? Not enough boxart.

20-30 more and I'll have my sexy new wall up!

I can definatley see where you're coming from on this one, especially considering the less then stellar draw distance in the game, but I think the sniper was never really intended as a ranged weapon. think of it more as just an all powerfull beam then a ranged weapon, used for larger ground enemies rather then the flying ones or boss fights, where you'd use the rocket launcher thing instead. I for one have never actually used the scope during a firefight, but instead prefer to hide behind cover, aim, pull a flip and pull the trigger then laugh at my one hit kill machines divine abilities. on occasion, it can be usefull in the splitscreen co-op, if the two of you plan an ambush on some of the larger maps before enemies start seeing you and then kill them before they can react.
Anyone have any ideas on how to quickly gain the max nanotech in this one? all my weapons are v99, but my health is at around 230/1000 after 3 play throughs, and the amount I'm earning each time seems to be going down, despite using two weapons which both have only exp mods equiped?

It would appear people do like the Sniper Rifle. I've since recalled that it was very useful in multiplayer, picking off people. I always enjoyed the weapons that simulated the wrench, like the Plasma Whip. They were fun.

I can't wait for next Autumn! I loved R&C 2 the best. Then 3, then 1, then Deadlocked. I liked going to vukovar canyon, Barlow, and sniping those purple bulls.

Anyone else notice the slightly messed up titles (going commando (underwear less) up your arsenal (self explanatory)) or was that just me...?

ratchet and clank
ratchet and clank 2
ratchet and clank 3
ratchet: gladiator (why did that one need to be changed?)
lukily they cut the foolishness once ps3 hit so we still got all the other titles.
any ideas on what the NA suprise is?

Well I've heard of it, but here in Brittain, they've filtered the ps2 names. we got:
ratchet and clank
ratchet and clank 2
ratchet and clank 3
ratchet: gladiator (why did that one need to be changed?)
lukily they cut the foolishness once ps3 hit so we still got all the other titles.
any ideas on what the NA suprise is?

Did they? I have all the cheeky named ones

Yeah, every one got changed, Ratchet 2 had the subtitle locked and loaded though. I'm kinda glad it got delayed, I just pre-ordered starhawk and doubt I can afford 2 ?30 games in one month. any news on the NA freebie yet? I'd be interested to hear whether EU will get it aswell...2012-05-05 08:55:00

We might be getting them with their original names in the HD re-release, both Play and Zavvi are using them in their product descriptions.2012-05-05 09:11:00

Ratchet & Clank HD Collection was announced for Japan in Weekly Famitsu this week under the name Ratchet & Clank 1+2+3 Galaxy Strongest Gorgeous Pack. Famitsu.com has posted screens, which you can see below. As with all Famitsu.com shots, they're on the lower res side and compressed to hell, but you can still see some of the improvements over the original Ratchet & Clank games.
Ratchet & Clank 1+2+3 Galaxy Strongest Gorgeous Pack will be released to retail on July 12 at price TBA. Individual download releases for the three included Ratchet & Clank games are also planned, with the first due on July 12 but the others currently date TBA. Sony will also release Ratchet & Clank 4th HD exclusively as a PSN download.

So deadlocked wil make its way to ps3? I'll bet thats the NA suprise then... though I hope not. I'd feel a bit ripped off if I had to pay more money for less games just because of where I live. I'd rather wait and have them all together with NA. If it isn't the suprise then that minor rant was worthless....
Will deadlocked multiplayer be available? I never got to play that so I'd certainly be interested in trying

If Ratchet DL is of high demand then I'm sure they'll make a re-make for the PS3. I saw a petition from a YouTube vid that already has 30+ signs.

I'm 100% not sure, but I think they said on twitter that Deadlock wasn't the extra, and the collection wouldn't include it because no collection ever has had more than 3 games.2012-05-10 22:01:00

maybe not, but watching that japanese trailer it would seem deadlocked will be available to download from the store after the initial release. It seems plausable that there could be some kind of download code within the NA box for the game does it not?2012-05-11 08:04:00

That would be plausible. Altough if it turns out to be true, then it'd be kind of unfair. I don't see why the collection can't be launched at the same time, with the same content in all regions.2012-05-11 10:56:00

I downloaded my copy yesterday, multiplayer is great fun!! It'd be nice if when everyones copies arrive we could get a game running, as currently there aren't that many games going on online. as a hint, use the city called aquatos, it seems to have the most games.
To those who don't already know, the game comes with 10 maps and 3 modes, though on some smaller maps only certain modes are available. for around ?12 you get all that plus the whole single player mode!!

My copy arrived! Personally I'm gonna do one playthrough on each (in order) then dabble around in 3's multiplayer for a bit then do the challenge mode playthroughs (probably multiple times). So far I've done the first five planets in 1.2012-06-30 14:56:00

yeah, I've also noticed ratchets helmet doesn't fit during cutscenes. It's quite hilarious actually. I also came across a glitch on bakisi islands multiplayer, where I accidentally charge boot boosted into the water when carrying the flag, then, after re-spawning, I when over to the side of the home base which allows you to snipe at enemies when they're camping their own spawn base, and the flag somehow appeared on me, allowing me to capture with ease. Being a good sport, I carried the flag back to their side of the map and commited suicide to drop it, but I'm sure others wouldn't do the same, and if the glitch is replicatable, then it could potentially ruin ctf on that map.2012-06-30 17:46:00

There used to be a glitch where you could walk through any wall in multi-player by going into the flying vehicle and ejecting right by sinking sand or any material that makes ratchet sink. As soon as ratchet starts sinking go back into your ship and land on solid ground. You should be able to walk through any wall. You'll need to jump into the wall you wont be able to just walk through it.

Let me know if this glitch still works, because that was an annoying glitch because people could shoot through the walls from the inside. If that makes any sense.

anyone playing muiplayer yet? it's the most fun I've had online in a game, mainly as the game focuses more on dodging bullets then actually aiming, and scince the ranking system is broken and confusing there are very few people playing for anything other then fun. the servers are alot more full now too, and I'm able to get into fun, full games frequently. I'd love to have some friends to play, but scince my friends from school are all on a trip to the USA at the moment I'm left alone. anyone fancy buddying up?
quick tip- before signing in, press x on your user name to edit it,
then change the name to Smithy Jones,
next hold down L2 (whilst still in the edit profil menu) and type in:
UP, RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT, DOWN, RIGHT, DOWN, UP
and
RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, DOWN, UP, RIGHT, LEFT, UP
After you've input the codes, you may change your name back without consequence.
these codes will unlock for you two new multiplayer skins, called Dan and Nefarius (don't know which is for which sorry, but you may as well get both)
dan is human skin, I think he's ment to be one of the designers or something, just a casual skin, with an epic satan beard.
Nefarius is Doctor Nefarius from single player/a crack in time/ all 4 one. he's pretty cool looking, but I still prefer robo-rooster!
Finally when creating a game of siege, make sure to select the alternate option (can't remember it's exact name) which will make it so that the more bases a team has, the better the defenses at home base will be, which allows siege to last a little longer then the usual 4 or 5 minuets.

Well joruto, I tried your glitch on outpost x12, in an offline game with just me playing and as far as I can tell it is impossible to re-enter your ship after sinking, even when the ship is as close to the wierd purple jelly as possible. Unless there was a specific place it had to be done at, or even a specific map the you can be assured that people won't be able to use this glitch to spoil your fun. In fact, I've yet to incounter any glitchers online, so no worries there at all.2012-07-08 11:24:00

the sly 2 demo doesn't work, it's been checked. not sure what chargeboot trick you're talking about though, but sadly lag jumping still exsists in multiplayer. large numbers of NA players who claim that's how thed game should be played are in the servers ruining the fun by lag jumping with extreme lag, making them not only stupidly fast but almost impossible to hit and damage.2012-07-24 19:11:00

hey guys. i want to say something about this.

if you only want 1 R&C game then you can go the the playstation store and buy 1 of the games. however 1 game is 15$. so if you buy all 3 then that totals up to 45$. i guess if you want 1 game like uya for multiplayer then you don't have to buy the full collection for 30$.

@sunbunny
they usually do a similar thing with collections, it's to try and tempt you to buy the disk or full collection over one game individually. you're supposed to go "look at the value!! I'll buy the whole collection!!" it obviously doesn't work
also, HD ratchet Gladiator has been announced, with multiplayer! it's said to be coming out sometime this year as well. three ratchet games in one year!

i got uya alone. here are the things i hate.

1. freezes. in a multiplayer match it freezes. it froze my ps3 more than 5 times yesterday.
2. ratchet helmet. why does float on his head during cutscenes?
that's it so far. i love the multiplayer but it freezes.
btw: why does siege feel short? in ps2 it took me a while to destroy one of the giant turrents on the base, but this it took me 2 seconds. (not because of multiplayer...)

I definitely feel like nabbing this some time soon, but I'm just curious, how's the writing? The gunplay seems nice, as does the graphics and other forms of gameplay, but is it mostly potty jokes and the like, like what I've seen in previews, or do we get.. I don't know.. more of the funny stuff, just not way too childish? I enjoyed both Sly and Jak's writing, so I'm interested in knowing if I'd be in the same boat with Ratchet and Clank?2012-09-09 04:04:00

Well as far as I can remember the writing mostly relies on slapstick and clever little off hand jokes more then potty humour, but don't quote me on that, I haven't played the offline portions in a few years. If you want a game with really funny humour I'd buy Ratchet: Gladiator off the psn later this year when it releases, that one was hilarious2012-09-09 08:51:00

The first game has really good writing imo but the second seemed rushed :1. And the third was meh... I think the gameplay is pretty sweet anyways. You should get it.

The first game's plot is fine, but Ratchet is a bit of a jerk in it compared to later games. Second game is probably the best of the PS2 entries, but has a very straightforward plot and no clear villain until the very end. Third game has a good supporting cast and a great villian, so I'd give that one my vote. A Crack In Time is probably the best in the series story-wise.

The jokes are very all-ages for the most part, but there are very few groaners and some that made me laugh out loud. Not much toilet humor at all throughout the series, despite the running joke with the titles.

Nicely put.
The humour of R&C is probably my favourite element of the franchise.
It's definitely up to par with Sly and Jak imo.
