Anyone else notice this?

Archive: 15 posts

I remember in the Projectiles tutorial, the plasma balls don't damage or kill you, only affect the projectile sensor. It might just be some Mm magic (like their fancy floating text), but did anyone else notice this or know how to do it?2012-03-10 20:28:00

Yeah, I noticed this a while ago. I remember a help thread on LittleBigWorkshop asking about why a users Plasma wasn't killing him when it clearly hit him. I tried explaining about how Plasma utilises player sigs, but I just got ignored for some reason.

It's a really cool feature that I haven't seen used much, to be honest.

I worked with emitted plasma balls to make an automatic turret, but for whatever reason they didn't work (I don't know if this was a different "broken" than in the tutorial), so I had to use plasmified holo instead. I might have to look into this, however small of a bug/glitch it may be.2012-03-13 02:49:00

It's not a bug/glitch. Plasma uses player signitures. If a Plasma ball is 'owned' by player 1, it won't kill player 1, but it will kill other players.

If it's an automated turret,it's likely you're using a Player sensor to activate the plasma Emitter? That will pass player data into the emitter, thus giving ownership over the turrets projectiles.
If you had it shoot at a Tag, for instance, that wasn't activated by a player, this wouldn't be a problem.
The Plasma player sig deal cuts both ways. Useful when it's needed, but in any other situation you need to find work around activation methods that won't carry a player sig.

Semi-unrelated cool feat:
If you use the unlethalize tool, it DOES make a plasma ball no longer hurt you, but it removes the plasma effect. It is just a black 2.5D ball which disappears on contact with no sound. This can also be lethalized as fire, electricity or etc. as a one time damage. For example, if you lethalize it with fire, and walk into it with your sackboy, he'll bounce off getting burned but not dying, and the ball will disappear.

But in this thread, we're still talking about plasma balls which appear to be lethalized. Just a cool tip.

Both plasma and flame ball are lethalized MGS paint balls

Also if we talking about lethal stuff, did you guys know that all the spiky things are actully sperated hidden lethal state code wise? If you take Danger Tweaker on spikes and set it to nonlethal it actually becomes.... nonlethal ;p they probably didnt add this hazard to Danger Tweak because it does not have any visual effect, thru it would be useful.

Imo they should not care about this kind of stuff and add all they got, they will end up adding it anyway after seeing people doing workarounds We can see that in Vita where is made under eyes of community creators

^ well you can also get spike hazed material as a LBP2 Glitch item. a lot of expert creators use it, it can be even turned in to invisible holo. but yeah, it needs to be added to the tool bag as already. hopeful they are smart enough to do it in vita and any future LBP game. *mew2012-03-15 23:51:00

I'm aware of that i even produce it my self when i was experimenting on top-down/object-to-logic transformation glitch. Still it's a just workaround2012-03-16 06:45:00

Makes sense, the turret was activated by a player sensor to rotate and shoot when at the correct angle... But I see one problem: When you make a creatinator emit plasma balls, it does kill you. However in the tutorial, the plasma balls are your player color, yet do not kill you. So imo it's something only Mm can do. I'm going to look more into this tomorrow.

Not true. I've done this loads of times. I assure you, Creatinators pass player data, and thus the Plasma doesn't kill it's owner.

I can't remember the Tutorial level, but I'll take a look tomorrow. I imagine the Plasma is emmited right as the player enters the level or something like that.

Hmm, I don't recall ever noticing this. I may have to check it out sometime.2012-03-17 02:21:00

The tutorial is Projectile Sensors. They come from a creatinator, and when you touch them, they don't kill you, but when you set a creatinator to emit them in create, say with 0.0 linear speed, then touch them, you DO die. I distinctly remember this. I'll take a video with my PVR tomorrow 'cuz this MUST be investigated.

Aw, derp. I completely forgot a rather important factor in this -

Is the level Co-op or Versus? Only in Versus does Plasma start descriminating between it's owner and whatnot. In Co-op Plasma doesn't care if you made it or not, you get killed by touching it.

So no video needed? lol I guess I can't remember to take a video... But I'm assuming tutorials are in versus, then. I tested this in co-op mode, so that explains it. 2012-03-20 02:04:00
