Puzzle Quest

Archive: 6 posts

Puzzle Quest is a matching tile turn based puzzle game where you compete against a CPU or human opponent.

It's a bit different to most in the genre though, as it also has some heavy RPG elements, like health, different abilities, experience, quests, monsters, and items.

Although the essential game mechanics stay the same the different classes and monsters certainly add variety. As you keep playing and gain new items, spells and levels, the different strategies you use also grows.

This game has been around for a while now and has appeared on most major systems, included PS2, Wii, DS, PSP, Xbox 360 Live Marketplace and PSN.

This is actually the third copy of this game that I own. I've noticed that this version on the PS3 does have 4 new classes, which adds greatly to the variety and playing styles you can use (not that it was small to begin with).

Well, anyway, does anyone else own it or play it? Any thoughts on the matter?

The PSN release had caught my interest but then I saw the hefty 16 quid price tag and I quickly decided it wasn't worth it.2008-12-31 22:18:00

I got this on psp DS and i bought it on the ps3. I love it. It's a fantastic relaxing puzzle game. Gameplay can be as deep as you want it to be.2008-12-31 23:31:00

Ah, someone else who likes the game so much they have multiple copies. The other versions I have are on the DS and Wii. Personally I prefer the PSN version. Sharper graphics, clearer sound, 4 new classes, unlimited save files... the only thing it's missing is portability, which I can live without.

Rabid-Coot, you are right in pointing out it's by no means the cheapest of the PSN downloads. It's still cheaper than a full blown PS3 game, and I like it as a good filler game, when I don't have an hour or two to spare but want a bit of a thinker which has a short life span.

That's not to say I don't spend a few hours at a time, but it's quite playable for a few minutes as well.

If you enjoy things like bejeweled, it's very similar to that game if I have the right one in mind, just with a lot more depth to it. Columns was another similar style but much older game.

If only they made some sort of short demo for free then people could try it out...

I loved Puzzle Quest. I got the PSP version, unfortunately, but still managed to enjoy and beat the game thoroughly. My gf got the DS version which is... severely lacking in the graphics and sound department compared to the PSP version. But at least it has fewer game-breaking bugs

Friend of mine tried it and completely hated it. I suppose it's the kind of game you either love or hate.
