Dynamic Ammo

Archive: 16 posts

Hello, I have a new piece of logic, that I want to show you, and possibly give away after it is debugged.

I call it Dynamic Ammo. For the ammo part, I am using two feedback loops, one to keep track of ammo in your clip, and another to keep track of ammo in reserves. This may not sound special, but the cool part is the dynamic part.

Because feedback loops keep percentage signals, you can hook them up to logic probes, which will display the percentage, which will equal how much ammo you have. If you connect the probes using wireless logic, then you can use as many of the Dynamic Ammo chips as you want to the same probe, while only using one tag, which can have the same name with every chip.

Due to some special math I have put in the system.

Let's say you have 32 bullets max in every clip for all of the examples I give, and 100 max bullets reserves (these are not the numbers that you have to use, they are all adjustable). Well when you shoot it will deduct one from the clip ammo count. Let's say you have 10/32 bullets in your clip, then when you reload it the system automatically subtracts 22 from the reserves, and adds the ammo back into the clip.

But wait, if you do that, then what if you don't have enough ammo in reserves to fill the clip?

I am glad you asked. The system will pass how much ammo is in the clip, and only that much, so lets say you have 0/32 in the clip, but only 10 bullets in the reserves. After reloading you will have 10 bullets in the clip, but none in reserves.

But what if you still have ammo in the clip, but not enough in reserves to fill the clip.

The system will keep the ammo in the clip, but also add the ammo in the reserve. Lets say you have 12/32 in the clip and 13 in reserves, the system will add the 12 and 13 together and put that in the clip, while emptying the reserves.

So the advantages one more time.
1) wireless probe connectivity will allow multiple Dynamic Ammo chips to be connected into a single probe (without wires) allowing ammo for multiple weapons to be displayed on only one display.
2) all ammo counts are in the form of percentages, which allows for easy modifications.
3) all the math is done within the chip.
4) it will only reload the full clip if you have the ammo
5) it only subtracts how much ammo you actually use instead of taking the same amount away every time.
6) reload times can be set inside of the chip.
7) the chip receives the signal when you shoot, and passes the signal to whatever you hook the output to, only if there is ammo in the clip.
8) you can pick if you want the gun to be, fully automatic, 3-shot burst, or single shot, as well as the delays between shots.

I am sure there is something I forgot to mention, but I do not know of any downsides to it.

Tell me, would you use it, did you see a disadvantage, or if you just have a question please post.

The 3ammo shot burst has been modified to allow a burst of any number.2012-03-08 23:21:00

Suprised no one else is interested yet. I thought it was a great idea.2012-03-12 02:21:00

Oh btw it is done. It has been submitted to the creators toolkit. I will post a level for it soon.

Ps- did i show it to you loafsy?

Yes, you did show me this fly_4_a_jedi. You asked for my opinion on it.

Thanks - Loafsy

sounds legit. how logic heavy is it on the thermo?2012-03-13 13:57:00

If you have a world with only holo and the chip, it takes half of the bottom bubble, I usually don't watch the thermo, so I am not sure of that is a lot or not.

EDIT: I forgot to say, I have added an auto reload feature.

i made one that does the same thing last year for ppp_killer, but he hasnt made a shooter since so it hasnt been used yet2012-03-14 14:21:00

I made this, because no one has used one. I don't know what was in your chip, but this was made so anyone can use it. My version has a lot of options, but yours may have as well.

Also I want to thank you evret, because I did use one of your chips in the kit, and without that I could lose A LOT of accuracy over time.

i make a lot of things that never get used, i only really share when someone specifically asks for something. for example the only reason some of my things have ended up in the creators toolkit is coz i met robbit10 through mutual friends, and he asked if he could add some of my logic.
it's not coz i dont like sharing, it's just that as soon i get an idea working i move on to the next idea and cant b bothered making the previous one user friendly etc.

also that rounding chip has some error due to an error in batteries. batteries are only accurate at 6% 10% 16% 20% 26% 30% 36% 40%.......... i think you get the idea. all other values have a small amount of error.
however the expanding logic probe i made (i know pivott has it) only uses the 10% 20% 30% etc so doesn't suffer from this

I understand what you mean. I usually just build stuff for a specific purpose, and not for a widespread group, but I enjoy playing some of the shooter, so I made this with everyone else in mind. I try to help plenty of people, because the better I help make other people the better level quality you can usually get.

I don't try to compete, but I do enjoy comparing solutions as well.

I'm definitely interested in this, but where can I get the microchip for it? Or should I just wait till you're online so you can show me in Create Mode?2012-03-20 22:43:00

I can send it in a psn message, or join you.

I have not been online too much lately, but I might be on later tonight.

I'm really interested in trying this out. Are you considering giving it away as a prize or something?2012-03-22 04:43:00
