The Fruit is a lie?

Archive: 23 posts

So here I am with a load of grapes (probably more grapes than any human could survive eating ).....and they got me thinking:

Me + Grapes = Bigger me?

Can you gain weight eating nothing but fruit and vegetables?

Guys, guys... this OP is onto something. Last time I ate a fruit at a salad bar. It was an orange, and I had it in my hand one second, and the next (I SWEAR I'M NOT LYING HERE) it was gone. It's like things vanish when you eat them!2012-03-06 23:59:00

Pretty much any foods can cause you to gain weight.

Depends on your metabolism...and what Rabidcoot said...

Can't you just google this stuff?

I doubt you'll get an opinion that's isn't partly based on the assumption that you made this thread to troll.

Gaining weight is just partially depending on what you eat, and more on how/ how much.
There are other factors to consider, such as sleep, sleeping too much or not enough can affect weight as well.

Eating 10 salads per day is technically not better than eating 3 greasy meals.
You can eat healthy, but only drinking sodas can still cause you to gain some weight.

Grapes, of course as well, snacking on a few every now and then, probably isn't gonna make a "considerable" change per say, but eat too many too often...

I doubt you lose enough calories from chewing and general living to burn off the calories in fruit alone, but if you were to mix it with proper exercise, then sure.2012-03-08 17:00:00

In actuality, you gain MASS not weight.
In actual actuality, I'm not so sure about that.
In actual actual actuality, the mass of the Earth pulls your mass towards itself and weight is measured in Newtons.

Yes, I had a physics exam a few days ago.

Hm, grapes are rich in moisture, so that won't be used as fat.

>_> I have in fact eaten large quantities of grapes within a small space of time myself. <3 Tis in my top five favourite fruits. xD But I inherited a crazy-fast metabolic rate from my dad, so I permanently look ill-nourished anyway.

But the mass causes a change in weight, so they are directly connected.

We are limiting this experiment to Earth, and Earth has a mostly constant gravitational pull. So I guess we can keep saying "weight" for now.

When we make a thread about eating grapes in random places around the universe, we should then use "mass".

This would be simply the best thread.

Are you talking about the, "If you eat nothing but rabbit, you'll lose weight, because it takes more energy to digest the rabbit than the energy it gives you by eating it." thing?

In other news, my mum told me about a woman at her old workplace who went on a diet consisting of nothing but carrots and she ended up turning bright orange, like a person off TOWIE/Jersey Shore. xD

You're all a bunch of hippies. Talking about meatless diets makes me cringe...

You don't lose weight based on what you eat, but how you burn/use the energy that's associated with it. You can eat healthy all you want, but unless you spend that energy doing something, you aren't going to lose anything. Maybe your life should you get fat enough, but still...

Eating only grapes won't make you heavier (well, temporarily, until you digest it and eject what's left). The body uses sugar and fat to make energy, and it stores fat to use later. There's no fat in grapes, so you will not get fat. But if you abuse eating grapes, then you have more sugar, more energy, so the body will store more fat from the other things you eat.

Taking too much or only one thing always ends up bad for you.

Depends on the carbs/calories/sugars you burn per day compared to how many you intake. Grapes have carbs/calories and a lot of sugars, but not as much as say a hamburger. So if you eat enough grapes, and don't exercise, you WILL get fat. It will just take longer than eating lots of hamburgers. Also, you will probably get the Hershey Squirts.2012-04-05 19:38:00
