A Social Experiment...

Recently I made a level. Its pretty rubbish to be honest, called 'Rain Simulator'. But just for the sake of, I decided to make a clone, entitled '1million trophy plz heart!!!!!'. While they both got similar play levels of around 100, the trophy level which was identical got 3 times as many hearts. So there you go. If you want your level to be noticed, label it trophy level, spell incorrectly in lower case and beg for hearts.*

*Please dont. That would be terrible.

Jebus, you would think that there's a limit to all these cheap trophy-seekers. You'd think the 5,000 trophy levels that were initially on the cool pages would be enough.2008-12-31 17:03:00

thats pretty crazy...im not a big fan of begging for hearts or the trophy levels. and i think its pretty dumb that there are multiples on the first page of "cool levels". I can't believe those levels get as many hearts as they do. Or that you actually get more hearts if your blatantly begging for them, but then again i bet most the people hearting them prob arnt the best players2008-12-31 17:24:00

I think it is the double edge of Trophy system...
I always thought that it didn't add anything to the play experience.
Now, with this kind of test and observations, i'm starting to think that it withdraw something to the play experience...

I tested something similar except it was the length and difficulty of level. I made a level and left it up for a week or so (it was not intended to be the best level, but it wasnt wholly terrible) and then i took that level and shortened it and took most of the obstacles out. Now i wouldnt really have been surprised if it would have been like a small increase of hearts, but the hearts to play ratio double and after only being up a few days it had more plays then the one that was up for a week. I would assume this is because of the tags, because as soon as it got tagged with long a couple of times, The plays completely stopped. This experiment of mine, added to the information gathered in yours, has made me lose almost all my hope in the LBP community. Apparently, quality levels mean nothing to the majority of the community, the community is just looking for easy(and by easy i mean where it takes no effort but you still get something out of it) levels(this has been said by many people, it is just supported by both yours and my experiments). And I was actually intending on making a thread about this also but you beat me to it so i decided to throw some more information into the mix. (parenthesis are my friends <3)2008-12-31 19:04:00

i noticed that with my first level i made, i've changed it dramatically really from the first release; people hated it because of the challange i didnt think it was that bad, but i revamped it so everyone should be able to play it now. it really seems people online hate a challange, really disappointing since i like a moderate challange at least2008-12-31 19:43:00

You're completely right. It does take away from the play experience, but not in just that way. I used to be the kind of person on Xbox who would play just to get easy achievements. I played games like Avatar, Simpsons, etc. Just so I could get easy achievements. And it was BORING. Bottom line is, don't play for trophies/achievements.

one of my friends is a huge trophy nut, i personally don't care too much about them if i get them cool but in the end what are trophys going to do for you?

I care about Trophies. But I don't go out and buy lame games to get easy trophies and most importantly, I do find it fun to collect them. It most definetly lengthens the lifespan of games for me and in a good way. If I find the requirements for trophies are stupid then I just don't do them.

In conclusion, trophies add to the play experience. I WIN.

I didn't mean everything about them is bad. They can be fun to obtain, but I feel they detract from the play experience more than they add to it in LBP. Not so much other games, but here they do.

I'm going to have to agree there bass, i would say LBP is a special case or they needed to chose their trophy acheivements more carefully. Like in COD its not going to ruin the game experiance for people getting so many knife kills or cooked grenedes...but w/ LBP you get a bunch of garbage levels......w/ the 100x multipler its almost like they made it so you would have to make a level just for that..just thought about that now
