The Big Bug List from patch 1.07

Archive: 21 posts

I've been reading these forums for a while and have noticed a disturbing trend in regards to a number of seemingly major bugs that have snuck into the game since the introduction of patch 1.07.

My guess is that 2 major patches in two days, plus the extra content and creation options from the MGS levels pack, have made the game far more unstable than it has been in the past.

It was likely that this content was rushed out in time for Christmas, and the guys who normally spot and fix these bugs might be on a well deserved holiday over the Christmas / New Year period.

So I thought I might try and make a big list of all the known bugs that people have been finding within the game, with the idea that the relevant authorities can come to one place to see the major concerns the community has with the game in one place, and also links to discussion threads if they want more information.

Let me just point out, however, that this is not meant to be a criticism of MM and their work, or a hate thread. It's job is to help MM identify what the fans are saying seems to be major issues and concerns.

Some of these bugs may have existed before the major patches, but seem to be constantly brought up, so are included here as well.

Save files malfunctioning / not working. This seems to have come up since the MGS levels were introduced. People have done a lot of work in create mode, saved their progress, and then returned to the game to find their hard work has vanished.

This is also an issue for recording information like passing/acing levels, as it seems the save file will sometimes corrupt itself for some users, leading to frustration.

There have been several varients to this bug, from costume saves malfunctioning to objects that were seperate and saved suddenly glueing themselves together without warning. Some people have also reported that their levels cannot be played by others online.

The save file size is too small.
This is an old issue, but it seems more and more people are noticing it, and many are getting frustrated that they have several gigabytes free on their hard drive but can only have a very small amount of content in game.

Serious creators are hitting limits on the amount of levels they can make, and this is while keeping their community objects page clear and removing all backups to their levels.

Bad connections to the serversPeople have reported waiting 2-5 minutes just to do one undo in create mode while being online.

Some people have had the game freeze or lock up while changing levels or pods.

Some people have random very slow connections to some people for no obvious reason, while on other games they have great connections, and their internet connection in general is excellent.

The search function is still not idealMany have expressed frustration that they enter the exact words for a level name, and get several pages of anything but the level they are searching for.

On an additional point to this, it seems that when the "highest rating" feature initially came in, for many serious players this allowed them to find high quality levels. It now seems to be dominated by what they regard as poorly designed "prize bubble" levels. Suggestions have been made to add some sort of category function to the search system that the author or players could select, in addition to the current "tag" system.

Prize/point bubbles can no longer be stickeredSome creators have regretted the loss of this function since 1.07.

Threads:Stickers & Score Bubbles (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6299)

The paint gun power up is erasing the stickering of objects with a high amount of stickers on itIt seems that the paint from the gun counts as a sticker, and can make an object lose some of it's stickering if it's very close to the limit. This could mean that large sections of colouring can be erased.

The cow glitch has stopped workingAlthough some would say this was initially a bug that should have been fixed, it did allow creators to make their levels more visually pleasing, and many serious creators miss it.

Complex objects not being captured correctly

Objects with an exceptionally high number of components and switches do not seem to be able to be captured properly. This seems especially noticable if the object is multi parted and not physically connected to itself.

The most noticable problems is that all the wiring done simply disappears on the saved object.

The inbuilt automated censoring of words is too strict

By no means am I suggesting that offensive language be allowed in LBP, or to allow people to work around a censoring system so people can be offensive.

Currently though it seems that the engine analyzes words written on magic mouths. If there are any words that are offensive, the whole speech bubble is replaced with asterisks when viewed online.

The problem is large words that in and of themselves are innocent are being censored because of the smaller words they contain. Words like "happened", "cockpit", "computer", "entering" and many others are causing the censor to trip when the author has no intention of offending.

Threads:
List censored LBP words here. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6932)

I'll try and find links to specific threads that discuss these issues so people can persue them further. If people could post links to them I'll try and update the appropriate information with further spoiler tags.

If I've missed any major issues, please mention them as well, with a link to the relevant thread.

I said it before and I'll say it again, this is not meant to be a gripe/hate thread. The idea is that someone in authority can go to one place and find the major issues that the community is facing at the moment.

Very helpful thread.

To add to the "Occassionally the games appearance goes bad in create mode."
I had a problem where I dropped 5 bombs at once then two bright white patches appeared on my screen where some of the bombs exploded.
They stayed even when I saved the level and came back to it from my pod. They went away after about 5 minutes on their own accord.

Maybe we should all take all of our levels, duplicate them, call them something with the words "Prize bubbles" in them and publish thousands of prize bubble levels. LBP will become so inundated that maybe the players will get the point and will stop going to these levels.

(just kidding...... but then again)

Elbee this is a great idea. I hope Mm's attention is brought to this thread. I'd like to add one more bug to the list if you'd like. The save file thing has brought "level breaking" on your moon as well. That "failed to load level" message you would get sometimes while trying to play online, well now it's possible to get it on your moon as well. I cannot access my Christmas themed level at all and I have read of this happening to others as well. Here is the link to my thread about it: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=p=100229#post100229

Thanks for taking the time to do this Elbee! Much appreciated by all of us, especially those who have encountered the major bugs!

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll keep trying to add links as I find them.

I'm too tired to try and word new patches. I need to stay up 28 hours to reset my body clock (it's a long story, but I need to do about once a month), and that reduces my creativity. But I'll keep adding in new links and think of new bug name titles tomorrow.

EDIT

I've put in quite a few links, but I don't have all of them yet. I'm getting a bit exhausted though so I'll come back to it latter or tomorrow. The save file corrupted list is quite long though.

EDIT again

I've finally gone through and found at least one link for every suggestion. It's not meant to be an exhaustive list, but if others can find threads it would be appreciated.

Wow, the amount of blunders in MM's products is starting to get pretty sad. I wonder how long they're going to be able to get away with taking advantage of their situation. It'll be just a matter of time before people get tired of waiting for these fixes, and the fixes to the fixes.2009-01-01 00:47:00

It looks like the forum code is playing up and has eaten one of the points I've made. You can see it if you quote the whole article, but for some reason it's not displaying it onscreen and merging the HTML links with another point. The code looks fine, it's just not working right and I don't know why, so I've posted about it in the "feedback" section.

This is the point that has disappeared for some reason.

This is an old issue, but it seems more and more people are noticing it, and many are getting frustrated that they have several gigabytes free on their hard drive but can only have a very small amount of content in game.

Considering the heading that has disappeared though, I find it all ironic.

I'll hold off on continuing to edit and update this list until I get an official response back about what's going on with the code.

Well, I don't know why it was doing what it was doing, but the now final point seems to absorb the next point, making the text you read disappear and absorbing the next points hyperlinks into it's own. It looks like moving it to the end seems to have fixed the problem.

I've gone over the code several times and can't work out the reason why, but it seems every point is now displaying in the first post. As I find more links, I'll just have to remember to keep that complex object point at the very end.

But now I should be able to add more links without any fear of them disappearing into the code (I hope) and also add any more points that need to be made.

CC, if your reading this, I don't know why it was doing this. It looks like it was not a limit in the amount of spoilers, just some freak bug with the code I guess.

But anyway, if I've missed any links or any other points need to be made, let me know.

I've noticed a small bug in one of my levels.

I've got two prize bubbles hidden under a rock. It's basically two wafer thin pieces of material with a thicker shell between them. The prize bubbles are hidden inside. So the prize bubbles are supposed to be hidden from view.

Visual Aid:

/----
/ OO

The area is technically "under water," so I've got a wafer thin piece of glass in front of the area where the prize bubbles are hidden. The thing I've noticed is that the bubbles are hidden, but the image of the prizes (the thing that pulsates) can be seen through all the layers. Kind of ruins the surprise of what's being hidden.

Actually it's been that way since I had my level published, and the level's been up for a few weeks now. It's just the first time I bothered to bring it up. It's really not the most urgent bug that they should have to deal with, but it still shouldn't happen.2009-01-05 17:23:00

Oh dear God...

I was just in an empty level building and I just tried to undo and it froze my game. I had to restart and I lost my progress on the level.

I finally worked out what the trouble with the code was that was causing a topic section to disappear.Aparently I was missing a "You can see the details for it all in this thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6927), including the offending raw code shown at length and in detail if you really want to spot the code.

Anyway, this has given me much more freedom to add more big bugs and suggestions, as well as increasing the number of threads that are linked.

Slowly getting there, there are a lot of threads to read and process.

According to ?Sack it to Me? - The Holiday Hangover Edition (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=7220) - that's the copy of it on this site - they are working on the save file bug. Let me quote in detail:

1.07 Aftermath

Our teams Liverpool and Media Molecule have been busy analyzing and crunching the data to respond to feedback you?ve been giving in response to the 1.07 update. All of your input on the forums have been a great source of information and you?ll be glad to hear they?re hard at work on a patch for the 1.07 update that should resolve many of the issues that have been reported. We?ll have further news on this patch once we?re a little closer to it being ready.

For those of you experiencing the ?Full Profile? message, since the issue revolves around the amount / complexity of the community objects in your Popit tool, for now your best bet is to delete a chunk of unwanted objects from your inventory.

It sounds like in general they are working on things and in detail there are looking into the save file bug. I hope this list and it's links help them to continue to work out what's going on.

In other news about this list, I'm still adding a few threads as I spot them, but I think the bulk of the information is there. Most of the information I am adding now tends to fit in the highly rated suggestion issues. Some of the things listed in the thread here are bugs, others are ongoing issues that the community have been bringing up.
