Invisible Material

Archive: 16 posts

Hey guys, is there a material that is invisible/can be made invisible, or is this a glitch?
I've seen some levels based on this where you run along *apparently nothing* without falling.
Is this blatently obvious and I've just missed it? Or is it a glitch? Was I halucinating?
Any feedback is appreciated

I found out earlier if you use the no grid setting and make Dark Matter material as small as possible (using the circle template) then it appears to be invisible and you can walk across it / hold stuff with it. Hope this helps2008-12-31 17:07:00

Yeah I've seen that too, it's cool...I wondered how that worked. I'll be trying that too! Thanks.2008-12-31 19:30:00

Don't use it too much! It's going to get out of hand you know.2008-12-31 20:42:00

I use it A LOT. Not usually for making trick platforms or anything but I glue tiny pieces of invisible dark matter to most of the objects in my levels. Makes it easy to move and arrange stuff with out having to deal with gluing and ungluing. Invisible walls can come in very handy. I'm really surprised more people don't use it. There are so many vehicle/rocket levels I've seen where I thought to my self...this guy should have just made invisible rails to follow. It can be tricky to work with but it's invaluable IMO. Oh, I also use the triangle because the circle has more geometry which ultimately adds up in your thermometer.2008-12-31 23:56:00

Wouldn't thin walls be subject to objects moving at high velocity passing through them or is this not a problem?2009-01-02 17:06:00

It's only Dark Matter and rubber, because of their odd properites. Try cutting the edge of a circle out of rubber, and the points go all squiffy. It's the same characteristic which makes it invisible in small amounts, much like the way Pink & Peach floaty materials expand when you make them very small.2009-01-02 19:24:00

I've used this technique with wood so I know that material will work. Wood changes shape and becomes invisible as you described when it's made smaller. I suspect most materials will work, but like I said I've only used wood so far.

Edit: Just went in-game and tested. Every material except sponge and floaty can be made invisible. The problem some of you have is the shape you're using. The narrow ellipse is the best shape to use since it's the thinnest one and will work with all the materials except the two I mentioned.
