More playable layers

Archive: 5 posts

You should add more playable layers as an update so a creator has a bigger area to make an awesome platformer or something. You know its a good idea.

If you search for the first screenings of lbp1, you'll see originally they had 5 or 6 layers but to keep the software stable with the ps3 hardware they limited it to 3 thick layers. I think some exta layers would be nice but it has to go on the wish list for a potential ps4 lbp.2012-03-03 11:44:00

it would make it too difficult for the autochanging of layers for sackboy and also more awkward to create. how about this:

you have four plains. each plain contains the normal amount of layers now found in the game (5 thin/3 thick) you can freely move these plains around but you cannot have more than the allotted layers per plain. this way you can have some control over how far the level goes forwards or backwards into the screen without compromising the design of the game.

My opinion on adding extra layers is that if there was going to be extra layers it should be something in Level Properties where you can choose how many Thick Layers you have in your level, and it would go from 1 to 100(With a default value of 3). It would be brilliant. It would also make it easier to make oldschool Platformers with 1 Layer.
Athough it would be extremely hard to program, and would probably require an Engine Overhaul, and I doubt anyone would want to create a game like LBP2, then rewrite most of the Layer Code because people think a few extra layers would be nice. If Mm did do this, I would probably eat every single Hat I own.
