Rotation in z-axis

Archive: 7 posts

In the level "Steampunk Skallywags" by L1GhTmArE there are propellers that rotate in the z-axis, that is, they rotate vertically perpendicular to the usual 3 layers.

Can anyone tell me how this is done please? Rotators and motor bolts won't attach in the z-axis so what witchcraft is this?

Love to hear from you! The level link below:

I'd imagine he used the drill object from the incredibles kit and put decorations on it... the drill is the only object that spins on the z axis

edit: I stand corrected, thanks Ayneh

Well, you can use any of the power ups that spin if you wanted to. I think that's what people used before the incredibles kit was released.

Hey, thanks Ayneh and Dav1d0, that sounds sensible and doable! I'll give it a go, should make for a cool effect.

EDIT:
OK - placing stickers on the tip of the drill works well, just fiddling around to get them in the right spot is the only trouble.

Placing decorations on powerups is good with the grapple and grabinators. They rotate very slowly. All other power ups move up and down as well as rotate. Also, all powerups radiate light which can't be turned off whereas the drill doesn't emit light.

The drill takes up a layer but can be carefully hidden by material in front so only the rotating decoration pokes out. Problem solved!

MANY THANKS!!!

Hi there aratiatia. Hope this helps

If you want to get a nice spi effect. You can use the 'remove powerup' powerup (the X).
This rotates at a nice speed and doesnt move up and down, just rotates. Also, as its a regular shape, it will be the least obtrusive to apply sticker objects to.

A way to kinda solve the light problem, is to create a material block 1 or more layers deep and make it larger than the base of the powerup. Now pause the level and draw it into place so it covers the powerup. Hope this sort of helps

You can make the drill tiny by using the rocket pack glitch. However, when it is tiny it becomes hard to stick decorations to, so you may want to do that beforehand. The deco will scale down with the drill.

As a side note, LBP for Vita will feature a massless object - that will be invisible in play mode - that rotates on the z-axis, allows to stick decoration on, can be turned on and off, be tweaked qua rotation speed, accept analog signals, etcetera, like a real rotator.
